Perlis to ban vape sales from Aug 1
Perlis menteri besar Shukri Ramli said fewer than 50 businesses are expected to be affected by the state-level ban on vape sales.
PETALING JAYA : The Perlis government will ban the sale of vape and electronic cigarettes from Aug 1, citing concerns over health and religious matters.
Menteri besar Shukri Ramli said fewer than 50 businesses are expected to be affected, and thus, he hopes they would be ready for the transition.

'The state government will provide support to vape traders to help them start new, suitable businesses,' Kosmo quoted him as saying after chairing a state executive council meeting in Kangar today.
Shukri said the decision was based on the harmful effects of vape use, particularly among young people.
'The National Fatwa Council has already issued a ruling declaring vape use as haram. The state government is committed to implementing this decision in full,' he said.
Perlis joins Johor, Kelantan and Terengganu in imposing a full ban on vape sales.
Other states like Melaka, Selangor and Perlis are considering stricter controls because of the rise in vape usage among the youth.
However, the ban has triggered pushback from industry players, who argue that state-level restrictions contradict the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852).
While Malaysia has not imposed a blanket nationwide ban, it is regulating vape products under Act 852.
The law bans online and vending machine sales, prohibits retail displays outside specialised stores, and requires product registration and standardised packaging.
