Two govt officials arrested for taking bribes
Trichy: Sleuths attached to directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption (DVAC) on Friday arrested a land surveyor and a sub-inspector of survey in two separate cases in Trichy. Police said that P Murugesan from Poonnusangapatti near Thuraiyur approached a land surveyor P Raja, 35, to survey around 31 cents of his land, to obtain a field measurement book (FMB). However, Raja demanded Rs5,000 as a bribe to survey the land. Unwilling to bribe, Murugesan approached the DVAC. Acting on the complaint, a team led by DVAC DSP G Manikandan set a trap. As Murugesan handed over chemical-laced currency to Raja, he was caught red-handed and arrested at his office on Friday. In another graft case, Rabiya alias Rabiyathul Basriya from Valluvar Nagar near Trichy airport recently purchased a plot in Kottapattu in her husband's name. Seeking individual patta, the woman approached a sub-inspector of survey K Thaiyalnayagi, 49, at Trichy East taluk office. Thaiyalnayagi demanded a bribe of Rs13,000. But Rabiya filed a complaint with DVAC. As per instructions, Rabiya handed over Rs13,000 chemical laced cash to Thaiyalnayagi. Subsequently, DVAC unit police caught the accused official while accepting the bribe. Further inquiries are underway.
