Spoilers ahead for Freakier Friday.
Not only did Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan make a triumphant return to the Freaky Friday sequel more than 20 years later, but so did an iconic dress. And the costume crew behind Disney's Freakier Friday revealed that they had to work hard to dig up the vintage piece from the first film, but it was well worth it.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Freakier Friday costume designer Natalie O'Brien spoke about an ending moment in the 2025 sequel that includes Chad Michael Murray and a vintage Diane von Furstenberg dress.
'The vintage Diane von Furstenberg dress was a treasure hunt, as there are not many left out in the world,' O'Brien told EW.
In case you haven't seen the 2003 film in a while, Lindsay Lohan's character Anna and her mom Tess, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, swap bodies. But when Anna finally has a day with her mom's credit card and car, she gives her mom a makeover — complete with a haircut, a piercing, and a Diane von Furstenberg outfit. The dress comes from the designer's Fall/Winter 2002-2003 collection, which debuted at New York Fashion Week in February 2002. The Dionise silk dress was a staple in the film, as we see this new Tess under Anna's influence, with the gown featuring beautiful hues of colors and patterns.
The dress comes back at the very end of Freakier Friday when, in a funny callback moment, Chad Michael Murray's character Jake attends Anna's (Lohan) wedding with a date named Bess who looks shockingly similar to Tess (Curtis). And what is she wearing? The Diane von Furstenberg dress.

The 18-year-old actor tells all about how she helped bring the star-studded sequel to life.
'The one we used we found on eBay, and it was about six sizes too small, so we did a hodgepodge of additional panels to make sure it fit," O'Biren said of the dress. "I'm so glad to say it really felt like the original.'
Murray's Jake initially fell in love with Tess when she was actually Anna, but the ending now leaves the question of who did Jake really love?
'My favorite part was seeing Jamie Lee's reaction when she saw [Bess] come out in it," O'Brien says. 'The dress wasn't actually written into the script; it was just something producer Kristin Burr, director Nisha Ganatra and I all discussed, and knew we wanted to make happen. I'm so glad it did!'
