A man accused of stabbing 11 people at a Walmart is in Michigan authorities' custody
Police tape is seen outside a Walmart where multiple people were stabbed in a violent attack Saturday, July 26, 2025, in Traverse City, Mich (AP Photo/Ryan Sun) TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Chaos unfolded at a Walmart in Michigan after a man burst into the store during a calm shopping afternoon and stabbed 11 people at random, authorities say. The attack on Saturday left six victims in critical condition and a suspect in custody. The 42-year-old suspect entered the store shortly before 5 p.m. and used a folding knife to stab 11 people, the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office said in a statement on social media. A sheriff's deputy arrived within minutes and took the man into custody. People in the store also helped apprehend the suspect and treat victims, the sheriff's office said. The victims' ages weren't immediately released. 'Eleven is 11 too many, but thank God it wasn't more,' Sheriff Michael Shea told reporters. Emergency vehicles and uniformed first responders gathered in the parking lot of the shopping center that houses several other retail stores. Authorities also were seen interviewing employees, still wearing blue uniform vests and name tags, nearby as the response gave way to an investigation. Tiffany DeFell, 36, who lives in Honor, about 25 miles (40 kilometres) from Traverse City, said she was in the store's parking lot when she saw chaos erupt around her. 'It was really scary. Me and my sister were just freaking out,' she said. 'This is something you see out of the movies. It's not what you expect to see where you're living.' Munson Healthcare said via social media that 11 people were being treated at the region's largest hospital in northern Michigan. Spokesperson Megan Brown said all were stabbing victims. Six people were critical and five were in serious condition late Saturday, she said. Shea said the weapon involved appeared to be a folding-style knife. Shea said the suspect is believed to be a Michigan resident but declined to share further details. Michigan State Police had said earlier in the day that the suspect was in authorities' custody. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said: 'Our thoughts are with the victims and the community reeling from this brutal act of violence.' Walmart said in a statement that it would continue to work closely with law enforcement in the investigation. 'Violence like this is unacceptable. Our thoughts are with those who were injured and we're thankful for the swift action of first responders,' the statement said. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said in a social media post that bureau officials were responding to 'provide any necessary support.' Traverse City is a popular vacation spot on the coast of Lake Michigan. It is known for its cherry festival, wineries and lighthouses and is about 25 miles (40 kilometres) east of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Sickening moment British holidaymaker is kicked in the HEAD by Portuguese teens for his phone
This is the sickening moment a British tourist was kicked in the head by a group of teenagers in a violent street robbery in Portugal. Footage of the assault, filmed by the attackers themselves, shows the 18-year-old lying bloodied and unresponsive as members of the group kick him in the head before fleeing the scene in the resort town of Albufeira. The group is said to have stolen the victim's phone, worth around 600€. The brutal attack took place in the early hours of July 17 and quickly spread across social media. But it was separate CCTV footage that ultimately helped police track down the suspects. The five attackers, all 17-year-old Portuguese nationals, were arrested by local police just days later. According to local media, the group lives in nearby municipality of Loulé, around 30 minutes from where the attack happened, and is known to frequent Albufeira's nightlife district. Pedro Pereira, Commander of the GNR Police in Albufeira, said: 'Using CCTV, we were able to identify them and understand each of their actions during these crimes.' He explained that the group had been under surveillance for several days and were suspected of carrying out other robberies in the area, although none as violent as this one. He said the group moved through public areas, and as they passed people they identified as potential victims, they would strike, either all at once or with part of the group attacking the victim, before robbing them. Despite the shocking nature of the attack, police say the teens do not show signs of being part of an organised gang and only one has a prior criminal record. He said: 'This was the only incident we have recorded evidence of them committing that showed such brutality and disregard for human life. 'Other cases involved violence, but none were this severe.' The victim was taken to hospital and later discharged the same day and has since returned to the UK. The group remain custody whilst their wait for a sentence.

Mum left pal scarred for life by glassing her in drunken row over her son who was jailed for attacking ex-City player
A MUM left a woman scarred for life after glassing her in a drunken row over her son after he was charged with attacking an ex-City player. Diane Moran was drowning her sorrows just hours after Michael Canning appeared in court when she turned on pal Donna Godsell. 5 5 Thug Canning had stabbed Patrick Kubacak 32 times in the head, face, scalp, neck, back, chest, torso and buttocks in a random attack. Moran, 45, smashed a glass tumbler into Donna's cheek and told her: "You f***ing stupid b***h. I'm going to kill you." The 46-year-old suffered horror injuries after the glass penetrated her skin and lost some of her teeth. She is also unable to smile properly after her face was partially paralysed in the attack and was left with a permanent scar. Moran admitted causing grievous bodily harm but was spared jail and instead handed a two-year sentenced suspended for two years. Manchester Crown Court heard the horror unfolded on July 26, 2023, after her son was charged over the knife attack. Gavin Howie prosecuting said: ''Miss Godsell made a comment about the incident involving Michael Canning at which point the defendant became angry, stood up and started screaming at her. ''She pushed the complainant and they had "a bit of a scuffle" in which she punched the complainant to the head which left her dazed. "The defendant then picked up hexagonal tumbler style glass with a thick rim from the floor next to the couch. At the time she had hold of the complainant's hair and pulled her head down towards the floor. ''The defendant then smashed the glass against the complainant's right cheek using her left hand. "The glass shattered on the complainant's cheek, making her feel dizzy and sick and her right cheek started pouring with blood." The court was told Donna underwent six hours of surgery and has since been left with PTSD. She said in a victim impact statement how feels "trapped in an endless bubble of fear" and no longer wants to leave the house due to her injuries. Donna added: "'I now struggle to look in the mirror without crying. Every time I look in the mirror I am reminded of the savage attack that Diane rained upon me. "This scar will be here for the rest of my life. I can't hide it. "I am so upset and hurt, as I considered Diane a friend. The scar will serve as a daily reminder of the horror I endured at her hands of a friend." Kubacak, a semi-professional development player at the Etihad. was walking through an alley in June 2023 when he was set upon by Canning. He was left fighting for life after the random attack in Davyhulme, Greater Manchester. Canning, who had a history of knife crime, was jailed for life with a minimum 20 years behind bars after he was convicted of attempted murder. Kubacak bravely spoke out after the horror, saying: "When I looked up at him, I could see he wasn't going to be satisfied unless I was dead. "The force of the blows was very strong and eventually the blood started to flow from my mouth and I thought I was dying. I started praying and pretended to be dead." 5 5

Man stabbed and shot by masked offenders during 'graphic' Gladstone Park home invasion
Police are the seeking public help to identify five individuals behind a "violent and graphic" targeted attack at a home in Melbourne's north-west. The incident occurred early Thursday morning at Trentham Drive in Gladstone Park, where a couple's home was broken into while they slept. Police said five people disguised in hoods and face coverings first attempted to enter through the front door before making it in through a rear entrance. Detective Inspector Adam Tilley said the disturbance awoke the occupants, a 60-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman. The man then approached the offenders, who were in possession of knives, a hammer and a firearm. "An assault has then occurred, quite a graphic assault," Detective Inspector Tilley said. "The 60-year-old male has been struck about the body numerous times with a hammer and also then stabbed about the body. "He has also sustained a gunshot wound to the arm." The man was attacked over five to 10 minutes, police said, and sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital for treatment. Police said the 57-year-old woman, who remained in the bedroom, was also approached and threatened with a firearm but was not injured. Police believe the incident was targeted, saying the group made demands for money and asked about the location of another male who is known to authorities. Detective Inspector Tilley said police were looking into that man's whereabouts and had dispatched a "safety message" to his family. "This is a violent and graphic incident that's occurred here for two occupants at their home," he said. "To be woken by five offenders, let alone [for them] to be armed with a firearm, knives and also a hammer, is extremely concerning to us, and that's why we're really seeking the public's support. "It's a concern that the offenders are still out in the community." An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
