Guernsey Post to offer staff voluntary redundancy
Some Guernsey Post employees are to be offered voluntary redundancy as part of a restructuring process, bosses company said the move was part of the next phase of plans which were aimed at dealing with financial pressures and making efficiency added that, along with voluntary redundancy for eligible employees, 10 roles at its freight subsidiary HR Air were set to be cut as it moved customer service and administrative functions to executive Steve Sheridan said it had been a "very difficult decision" to take, but one Guernsey Post felt was necessary to remain sustainable. Mr Sheridan said: "These changes affect both Guernsey Post and HR Air and are part of a broader effort to strengthen our operations for the future."Our priority is to support our colleagues through this transition while continuing to deliver reliable and high-quality service to our customers."The firm said it was in consultation with the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and the Guernsey Post Employee Representative Group over the plans.

Nissan will cut 250 jobs at its Sunderland factory
Close Nissan will cut around 250 jobs at its Sunderland factory as it looks to 'support future competitiveness' following a difficult 2025. This will be part of a voluntary redundancy scheme, Nissan has confirmed, and will not affect manufacturing staff. Some 6000 people are employed at the plant which builds the Qashqai and Juke. The new Leaf will also be built there, as will the electric Juke from next year, following more than £2billion of investment. A Nissan spokesperson said: 'In order to support future competitiveness, this week we are beginning discussions with some of our team in Sunderland about the opportunity to voluntarily leave Nissan, with support from the company.

Gloucestershire engineering firm attempts to make £20m in cuts
Global engineering firm, Renishaw, has announced a voluntary redundancy scheme for its UK and Ireland employees in an attempt to make £20m in which is based in Wotton-under-Edge in Gloucestershire, currently employs more than 3,000 people in the UKThey introduced their voluntary reduction scheme last Thursday as part of their global cost reduction world-leading supplier, founded in 1973, specialises in high-precision measuring systems used by companies that manufacture aircraft and medical equipment. A statement from Renishaw stated: 'In recent years, Renishaw has faced challenging market conditions. Whilst we have achieved some growth, we have also faced significant inflationary pressures in our costs which have grown faster than our revenues." A spokesperson for the company said they had already taken action to boost productivity and reduce costs including closing their Edinburgh site and reducing graduate intake. The firm said it believed the move was necessary to further reduce costs and make annual savings of up to £20m.

RNZ calls for voluntary redundancies after Budget funding cut

Photo: VNP / Phil Smith Public broadcaster RNZ is calling for voluntary redundancies among staff after its funding was cut by $4.6 million a year in the Budget. In a statement, CEO Paul Thompson said the news would be unsettling for people. He said applications would need to be considered against retaining skills and experience. RNZ has not released how many redundancies it is seeking. The deadline for applications is early July. Paul Thompson said: "Applications for voluntary redundancy will be considered against the need to retain necessary skills, knowledge and experience within teams or critical risk areas. "Any discussion around leaving an organisation, even if this is voluntary, is unsettling for the people involved and out of respect for our hardworking people, we will not be commenting further or sharing further details of the scheme while it remains open." RNZ told staff about the voluntary redundancies in an email on Tuesday morning.

Liverpool Hope University cuts 'devastating' for its reputation
Proposed job cuts at Liverpool Hope University (LHU) will have a "devastating impact" on the academic institution's reputation, a union has have been invited to apply for voluntary redundancy, said Roberto Catello from the University and College Union (UCU), with 39 lecturers facing losing their said the proposed cuts would have a "devastating impact on our academic community, the reputation of the university... and the local economy".A university spokesperson, who confirmed the voluntary redundancy scheme, said leaders tasked with ensuring the institution's financial and academic stability were working with the UCU "to explore all options". Dr Catello added: "The fact the LHU plans to drastically reduce the size of the Theology and Religious Studies academic team, from a headcount of six to two, is particularly telling."It shows that management is willing to sacrifice our institutional identity as a Christian and Ecumenical University just to make some savings from the academic staff budget."Part of the national Cathedrals Group of Universities, LHU said it was seeking to "ensure financial and academic stability".A university spokesperson said they appreciated it was a worrying time for staff and stressed that no staff member had been issued with a redundancy notice."The situation is still fluid," the representative added. "We await counter-proposals from the union and continue to consider suggestions and counter-proposals from individual staff."Our institution is not immune to the challenges facing the higher education sector across the UK and these proposals have been put forward to ensure financial and academic stability, while enabling us to continue to deliver excellent educational outcomes into the future."
