Celtics announce roster cut in wake of new acquisiton
The Celtics announced they waived two-way player Miles Norris on Sunday. Norris, a 25-year-old forward they signed in March, was entering his second season with the team. The announcement came just a few days after undrafted rookie RJ Luis was traded to the Celtics from the Utah Jazz for Georges Niang and two second-round picks. Luis was already on a two-way contract with the Jazz, so it appeared likely that either Norris or Luis would be waived to clear space to sign rookie Amari Williams. The 25-year-old Norris averaged 14.5 points and 6.3 rebounds for the Maine Celtics last year and appeared in three regular-season games with the Celtics. But, he had a lackluster showing at Summer League, averaging 9.3 points on 36.8% shooting, including 25% from three. The Celtics now have Max Shulga and RJ Luis both under contract as two-way players. Shulga signed his two-way contract late last month, after a strong career at VCU. Luis, meanwhile, averaged 18.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game as St. John's last season. Amari Williams, who was drafted by the Celtics with the 46th overall pick, will presumably be the third two-way player, though he has not officially signed with the team.

Titans waive injured 2022 first-round pick Treylon Burks
The Tennessee Titans waived wide receiver Treylon Burks with an injury designation, the team announced on Monday. Burks reportedly suffered a collarbone injury in Saturday's practice. The Titans selected the former Arkansas standout with a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Tennessee acquired the selection as part of the trade that sent star receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles. Advertisement Burks caught 33 passes for 444 yards and a touchdown in 11 games as a rookie. His production dipped in 2023, catching 16 passes for 221 yards. A knee injury limited him to just five games in 2024. He was entering the final year of his rookie deal after the Titans declined his fifth-year option in May.

Trump intervenes to boost Hegseth aide who left military for politics
President Donald Trump will allow one of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's top advisers to sidestep legal requirements and retire from the military at a rank he held only briefly, apparently setting aside suspicions about the aide's political loyalties raised in conservative media, officials familiar with the matter said. The military retirement of Marine Corps Col. Ricky D. Buria became official this month, service officials said in an email to The Washington Post. Absent any disciplinary action, he will be considered a colonel in perpetuity despite having served in the rank only since November 2024. Federal law requires most military officers with his standing to hold a rank for three years before they may retire with it, though there are exceptions that allow the president to intervene through a waiver in cases 'involving extreme hardship or exceptional or unusual circumstances.'
