Crichton's 'winning mentality' will help Rangers succeed, says captain Docherty

Rangers captain Nicola Docherty says Leanne Crichton's "winning mentality" will make her a success as the club's new head coach. Jo Potter made the move to Crystal Palace this summer, having won back-to-back domestic doubles with the Glasgow club and was replaced by former Glasgow City and Motherwell assistant a teammate of Crichton's at Glasgow City, feels the new boss' high standards will improve the teams' mentality, and it will be a "smooth" transition from being her teammate to her boss."I've actually found the new dynamic with her being my manager quite smooth because I remember when I look back on my career with Leanne I respected her so much as a player," the defender said. "So I think that's what makes it easier when she comes in to be my manager. I just remember that respect that I had for her, the winning mentality that she has, the standards that she drove day in, day out, and that's not going to be any different now that she's my manager."Although they won two of the three competitions they were involved in last term, Potter's side missed out on the league title on the final day, losing to champions Hibernian. "I think when you look at the cup success, it was amazing what we did," Docherty added. "We were probably the underdogs going into the Glasgow City game in the final and we came out on top."But when you look back at the final day at Ibrox it was obviously a difficult one to take and I told the players to go away and feel that emotion and that hurt because that's what will make us stronger for the upcoming season."I think the the key message well be taking into the season is consistency."And I think that's where we've let ourselves down in previous years, that winning mentality. It's consistency that wins you league titles".

Aaron Rodgers-led Steelers offense bounces back in seven shots at training camp

Aaron Rodgers' winning mentality was on display once again at Steelers training camp. At Friday's practice in Latrobe, the Steelers participated in the iconic seven-shots drill — an intense red-zone simulation where the offense lined up at the two-yard line and the defense attempted to stop them from getting in. And Rodgers' performance more than made up for yesterday's interception on the first throw of team drills. The first play attempt of seven shots was retried after a bad snap from C Zach Frazier, but Rodgers linked up with DK Metcalf for a touchdown, putting the offense up 1-0. On the next attempt, Rodgers tried to connect with Metcalf once more, but Joey Porter Jr. broke up the pass. Both sides were tied, 1-1. With a new quarterback taking center stage in seven shots, Mason Rudolph attempted a pass to WR Ke'Shawn Williams — but it was almost intercepted by Porter. Defense went up 2-1. Rudolph connected with WR Scotty Miller on the next play, tying it up 2-2. Rookie QB Will Howard then took over on offense, attempting a pass to WR Brandon Johnson — but the pass was broken up by Cory Trice Jr. Defense retook the lead, 3-2. Howard wouldn't take the defended pass lying down — hooking up with TE J.J. Galbreath on the next attempt to tie the score back up, 3-3. Out trotted the four-time MVP for one last shot to decide a winner, and Rodgers didn't flinch — connecting with TE Pat Freiermuth to give the offense the win, 4-3. It's safe to say Rodgers' second day of practice in Latrobe went exactly as planned for the 20-year veteran — who's eager to keep proving why the Steelers offense is far more dangerous than it's being given credit for. Lauren Bell says ‘no one is guaranteed a place' under Charlotte Edwards' new regime

England fast bowler Lauren Bell claimed that Charlotte Edwards has brought a 'winning mentality' to the dressing room and that 'no-one's place is safe' since she took over from former head coach Jon Lewis. An eight-match series against India comprised of five T20s and three One Day Internationals gets underway on Saturday at Trent Bridge. After a great start to the tenure of both Edwards as head coach and Nat Sciver-Brunt as captain, which saw them win six out of six white ball games against the West Indies, they now have to raise the bar against India, whom they beat under the captaincy of Edwards in the 2017 World Cup final at Lord's. 'It's been a great start,' Bell said about the new regime. 'Charlotte has this real winning mentality, and she's come in and set these really clear goals for how we want to go about our cricket. We're able to review a game quite objectively, rather than going off emotions.' Edwards took on the role when Jon Lewis was sacked in March following a thrashing in the Ashes over the winter and she's not been afraid of ringing the changes to the line-up. 'You want to put performances in because you want to get picked,' said the Hampshire bowler. 'No one's coasting anymore. No one is guaranteed a place in the starting XI. Some of the things Lottie has implemented will hopefully have a knock-on effect with how we deal with real pressure situations.' Those pressure situations were not the team's strength during the winter, when they were also publicly criticised by former international Alex Hartley due to their lack of fitness. Bell says people are entitled to their opinions but added: 'It didn't feel exactly why we were losing games of cricket. 'As a team, we work super hard, and fitness -wise we're in a good place. Lottie has come in and set these minimum standards, which is good, but it shouldn't affect the majority of the team. There are many other factors to why we struggled in Australia.' Saturday 28th June - T20 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham (2.30pm) Tuesday 1st July - T20 at The County Ground, Bristol (6.30pm) Friday 4th July - T20 at The Oval, London (6.30pm) Wednesday 9th July - T20 at Old Trafford, Manchester (6.30pm) Saturday 12th July - T20 at Edgbaston, Birmingham (6.35pm) Wednesday 16th July - ODI at Utilita Bowl, Southampton (1pm) Saturday 19th July - ODI at Lord's (11am)

Charlotte Edwards has England ‘focused on winning' again

England bowler Lauren Bell feels new head coach Charlotte Edwards has helped the players rediscover their winning mentality as they look to move forward into the summer series against India. Former England captain Edwards replaced Jon Lewis as head coach after the winter's humiliating 16-0 whitewash in the Women's Ashes in Australia. Advertisement It has been a positive start as new captain Nat Sciver-Brunt guided her side to a clean sweep of their six-match white-ball series against the West Indies. England play the first of five T20s against India at Trent Bridge on Saturday, which will be followed by three ODIs in July. England Women head coach Charlotte Edwards (left) has seen her side make an impressive start to the summer (Mike Egerton/PA) With a 50-over World Cup on the horizon in India later in the year, Bell believes Edwards, her former coach at Hampshire, can keep pushing England in the right direction. 'She is exactly how I expected her to be coming in and leading this team. She has really brought some great fundamentals to the team,' Bell said. 'I guess Charlotte just brings a sense of the winning mentality. Advertisement 'The way Jon Lewis went about his things, I really enjoyed and it was a really good way to go about it, but Charlotte is just different. 'She has more of a focus on winning and how you are going to beat the opposition, which obviously is something maybe we lacked in previous series and under the pressure, I guess. Lauren Bell hopes England can push on through a successful summer (Mike Egerton/PA) 'So she has brought that and a real hard-working mentality.' Bell added: 'In any situation, when you have new personnel in charge, it is going to be different. Whether their ideas are wildly different (or not), it is going to feel like a different group. 'They obviously bring a new energy, new ideas. It is kind of like a blank slate and we are moving forward now. Advertisement 'She is very focused on winning, focused on how we are going to beat the opposition by getting the best out of us, so it is different but it is great and really exciting.' Sciver-Brunt hit another half-century in Taunton to help secure England's 3-0 ODI series win over the West Indies. Nat Sciver-Brunt enjoyed a winning start to her England captaincy (Nick Potts/PA) Bell feels the 32-year-old all-rounder, who replaced Heather Knight in April after her nine years as skipper, has been 'amazing' in her new role. 'She has been really relaxed, really calm and wants everyone to have her say on how they go about their games and what they want to do, which is great,' Bell said. 'She always leads from the front. She is amazing at all three aspects of the game and everything she does – the way she trains, the type of professional she is. Advertisement 'It has been a really good start and I think she is really enjoying it.' The series is India's first tour in England since the controversial run-out at the non-striker's end – more informally known as the 'Mankad' – by Deepti Sharma on Charlie Dean in 2022. While plenty of water has flowed under the bridge since, Bell knows England – with Sophie Ecclestone returning to international duty – will still need to be on top of their own game. 'They are obviously a really strong team, but hopefully we are really confident and in a good place,' she said. 'So if we can play our best cricket, then I think it will be really good series.'
