MSEDCL urges people to stay safe from electrical hazards during monsoon time

Nagpur: With the monsoon picking up pace in the city, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has issued a public appeal urging citizens to remain vigilant against the heightened risk of electrical hazards. To help citizens stay safe, MSEDCL has released guidelines for precautions to be taken both indoors and outdoors. When indoors, MSEDCL has urged people to avoid touching damp electrical appliances, switchboards, or walls, and not to use devices with wet hands. It also cautioned against using appliances near windows or balconies during heavy rains. If water leakage is observed near the electricity meter, residents are advised to immediately switch off the main supply and inform the company. The use of copper wire in the main switch is discouraged; instead, consumers should opt for aluminium alloy fuse wires suited to cope with the load, preventing serious accidents by cutting off supply during faults. The utility further urged citizens to inspect old or worn-out wiring through licenced electricians and to ensure only ISI-certified materials are used in any electrical installations. Proper earthing of high-power appliances like geysers, heaters, and mixers is essential. MSEDCL warned that a tingling sensation when touching metal objects such as fridges, taps, or computers could be a sign of faulty wiring, which must be addressed immediately. People should wear rubber or plastic slippers when handling metal equipment in damp conditions, and outdated wiring should be replaced without delay. Outdoors, the company highlighted dangers posed by sagging or fallen power lines, poles, transformers, and open fuse boxes — especially during storms. Citizens have been urged to maintain a safe distance from such infrastructure. The company explained that power outages during the monsoon can occur due to a range of reasons — such as the sudden cracking of porcelain insulators when rain cools them after exposure to the sun, damage to underground cables caused by moisture or excavation, and falling trees or lightning strikes. To report power disruptions or technical issues, MSEDCL has made several toll-free helplines available around the clock. Citizens can contact 1912, 19120, 1800-212-3435, or 1800-333-345. Registered mobile users can also give a missed call to 022-50897100 or send a message in the following format, 'NOPOWER [12-digit consumer number]' to 9930399303, to file a complaint and receive updates.

WRAP: Increasing costs of textile disposal could fall on charities and consumers

A new report by the NGO, Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP), has warned that if the used textile disposal sector collapses, charities, local authorities and consumers could be subject to subsequent rising costs. This is particularly urgent as collectors and sorters are increasingly unable to make money on reusable items, with fewer being desirable to the secondhand market, WRAP said. According to the organisation, UK textile collectors and sorters are facing an 88 million pound annual loss every year to manage secondhand textiles. If the sector collapses, however, WRAP indicates an increase in costs of 64 million pounds per year for local authorities. Without funding support, this could see costs of up to 200 million pounds per year by 2035, WRAP stated, 'should the burden fall on councils to collect and dispose of our unwanted clothes'. In addition, an increase of 2.5 million tonnes of CO2e per year is anticipated due to the potential increase to landfill and incineration. In a release, WRAP's incoming chief executive officer, Catherine David, said: 'This is an existential threat to the collecting, sorting and grading sector that's been in the UK for more than a hundred years. The impact of this sector folding will be catastrophic. Generating and increasing the value of our worn-out clothing must be fast-tracked if the industry is to be salvaged. We have a vision to make that happen and future-proof this key part of the circular economy for textiles developed through ACT UK.' ACT UK, or the Automatic-Sorting for Circularity in Textiles Project, was a two-year pilot project, wrapping in 2025, that set out to develop solutions and design infrastructure to manage the UK's unwanted and unusable textiles. During the collection trials, WRAP reported that up to 46 percent more textiles were collected by giving the public an opportunity to donate old textiles alongside ones that could be reused. Through the project, the organisation determined that advanced sorting and pre-processing facilities would save worn-out textiles from less favourable conditions. It suggests that through the creation of 14 such facilities offering a 25,000 tonne capacity per year, the cost for collection and sorting of old clothing would be reduced by about half by 2035. WRAP is also proposing a new collaborative approach to retailer take-back schemes: the Textile Collections System Transition Programme. With this, brands could work together to co-design various initiatives that support the collecting and sorting industry. WRAP is inviting brands to participate in the programme to accelerate the approach.

DD Next Level Review: Santhanama's Latest Is A Meta Comedy Of Patchy Creative Brilliance

Last Updated: While many meta ideas work, a huge chunk of comedy in DD Next Level doesn't. The creativity is sporadic, making you wish the film could have done better. DD film series has a tested template. It starts with a prologue about a haunted place and moves to a first half that deals with the romance of the lead pair and their arrival at the place of horror and finally, the third act of horror-comedy cocktail. DD Next Level, the costliest of the series, is a bit more interesting despite following the template to a large extent. Adding a meta layer to the template has made a huge difference to the worn-out horror-comedy genre. However, the novelty runs out of steam pretty soon as the filmmakers run out of ideas in the second half, resorting to the usual antics of the genre. The prologue of this genre has a popular real-life YouTube film reviewer going to a film theatre on the outskirts of the city on an invitation for a special show. He is the only one at the cinema, which turns out to be a haunted place. The ghost of Hitchcock Irudhayaraj (Selvaraghavan) kills the reviewer as an act of revenge for all the bad reviews. The story of DD Next Level is what you get when Balki's Chup meets Arnold Schwarzenegger's Last Action Hero. Yet, S Prem Anand refuses to elevate the movie to such great heights as he is stuck in the condescension of pandering to the assumed lowest common denominator of public taste. The pedestrian prologue is self-evident to it. Why not cut the chase and start with the protagonist getting the invite? But lack of such finesse is not the biggest problem of DD Next Level. The sporadic creativity and the progressively regressing humour are the overarching problems of the film. Kissa 47 (Santhanam) and Veen Pechu Babu (Rajendran) are funny when they indulge in meta-humour that takes a dig at the cliches and tropes of the film genre. Kissa reading out the subtitles of foreign language, predicting a flashback with the transition shot, and accessing imminent danger with the haunting background scores are some nice touches, though they don't bring about laughs. At one instance, Kissa 47 asks his friend to relax, 'It is a safe scene as there's no re-recording." But the makers don't go beyond scratching such surfaces. The meta humour is the only good thing going for the film as whenever it switches to Tamil cinema's usual slapstick comedy, the film slumps. Rajendran's Veena Pechu Babu gets painted in silver for an extremely silly reason. The excuse that it all happens within a film wouldn't fly as the humour is puerile even for a cartoon. That's the irony of DD Next Level: A film that's quick to mock cliches and stupidity, and resorts to the same when it has nothing else going on for it. The adult humour tries to indulge with the characters of Kasthuti and Yashika, who play mother and daughter and need more dexterity and awareness. Instead, it becomes borderline crass. Here, too, the film barely scratches the surface. Thus, watching DD Next Level turns out to be like eating a pack of boring biscuits with bits of good chocolates in them. But as you work through the packet, there are more boring biscuits and no chocolate. First Published:

Authorities said she was also booked under the Information Technology Act. Although BNS does not explicitly mention sedition as under the former Indian Penal Code Section 124A, Section 152 of the new criminal code addresses actions that endanger the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of the country. Live Events — nehafolksinger (@nehafolksinger) Multiple arrests in Assam for "seditious comments" Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday that 16 people have been arrested across the state for allegedly making "seditious comments" after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. "Total 16 arrests have been made till now against rogue elements," Sarma wrote on X. Among those detained is Aminul Islam, an opposition MLA from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF). Sarma indicated that the National Security Act (NSA) could be used against those arrested if necessary. "There are no similarities between Bharat and Pakistan. The two countries are enemy nations and we must remain like that," Sarma told news agency PTI. Strong reaction from Assam CM against Pakistan Responding to Pakistani politician Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's comments after the Pahalgam attack , Sarma referenced Pakistan's violent history and criticized Bhutto Zardari. "Pakistan has a long and bloody history of betrayal — it claimed the lives of Bilawal Bhutto's grandfather and mother. It is tragic that an unworthy son today chooses to dishonor their sacrifice. I extend my deepest condolences to him in advance, for the path he has chosen will only bring disgrace," Sarma posted on X. He further added, "Let it be absolutely clear — no one can deter India from taking decisive action to safeguard its honour and people." India suspends Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan Following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi , decided to suspend the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 with immediate effect. India officially notified Pakistan about the suspension, citing Pakistan's violations of the agreement. Secretary of Water Resources Debashree Mukherjee informed her Pakistani counterpart, Syed Ali Murtaza, that Pakistan's continued support for cross-border terrorism violates India's rights under the treaty.
