Cambridgeshire youth forum to tackle young people's unemployment
A new youth forum is being set up in a county where data shows economic inactivity among young people is at a record Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) approved a business case on Monday to find ways to improve young people's access to employment, training or successful, it would unlock more than £4.9m in government funding to be spent on a pilot scheme that would be used to see how other projects could work across the Bristow, the mayor for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, said the approval was "another step forward" in helping young people. He said: "I'm determined this programme makes a real difference to the lives of young people across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough."The aim is for Cambridgeshire to become one of eight regions in England designated as "youth guarantee trailblazer areas", where they test different ways of tackling other areas are the East Midlands, Liverpool, London, Tees Valley, the West Midlands and West of England, with each region thinking up their own the West of England, for example, the scheme is being targeted at young people in south Bristol, rural areas of north east Somerset and those with special needs or mental health conditions in South Gloucestershire. 'Lived experiences' A report presented to the CPCA funding committee said the youth forum would be "critical" to making the scheme a success and should include "young people's voices and lived experiences".It said there were record high shares of 16- to 24-year-olds in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough who were economically inactive, at nearly 49% in the year to June 2024, although most of these were of young people economically inactive due to other reasons had increased on an annual basis, such as being temporarily sick, discouraged, or unable to seek had the highest rates of teenagers not economically active, in education or training (NEET), at 4% for 16-year-olds and 6% for CPCA said: "Having assessed current levels of NEET, economic inactivity and the index of multiple deprivation, we are concerned about Peterborough, Fenland, East Cambridgeshire, and some neighbourhoods in Cambridge and Huntingdonshire."The youth guarantee would apply to 18- to 21 year-olds, as well as 16- and 17-year-olds who have disengaged from education or are at risk of doing new forum would be recruited with the help of local organisations such as youth groups, councils, job centres and volunteer groups. Dubai: British broadcaster Morgan to headline 2025 Arabic Media Summit
Renowned British journalist and broadcaster Piers Morgan, the Grand Imam of Al Azhar and the Lebanese Prime Minister will headline the Arabic Media Summit, which will takes place in Dubai from May 26 to 28. The 23rd edition will bring together leading media figures, political leaders, and cultural influencers at the event, which has been expanded from two to three days. The Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, ministers of culture and media from across the region, including Qatar, Lebanon, Egypt, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the UAE, will also take part. Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council and Chairperson of the Dubai Press Club noted that each of the three days will feature a distinct theme. Creativity Award The first day will be dedicated to youth under the Arab Media Youth Forum, bringing together prominent Arab and international media professionals with emerging talent from across the Arab world. It will also host the Creativity Award, now in its ninth cycle, which focuses on university-level media innovation across the UAE and the region. The second day will centre around the main Arab Media Forum, featuring a packed agenda of discussions with key political, economic, and media figures. Piers Morgan is expected to moderate a session, while several closed-door discussions are planned for elite journalists and high-level stakeholders. The forum will delve into pressing regional and global media issues, with participation from over 200 professionals representing leading newspapers, TV networks, and digital platforms. According to Maitha Buhumaid, a member of the organising committee, the summit will welcome speakers from over 26 countries, featuring more than 300 participants. 'This year, we will host over 175 main sessions and 35 workshops in partnership with major media institutions, including top digital platforms,' she said. New to this year's summit is the Film and Electronic Games Forum, launched by the Dubai Film and Electronic Games Office. Hisham Al-Elma, also a member of the organizing committee, described the initiative as a strategic move to establish Dubai as a global hub for cinematic and gaming industries. Industry giants such as Netflix, Amazon, and Japan's Square Enix will conduct exclusive masterclasses, while acclaimed creatives like filmmaker Ali Mostafa, actress Huda Hussein, and Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan are set to attend. The final day will spotlight social media through the Arab Social Media Summit, which will celebrate influential Arab content creators and storytellers through special awards. The day will also include sessions with leading Arab and international drama celebrities and gaming influencers, reflecting the UAE's ambition to position itself as a leader in media and technological innovation. The 2025 Arabic Media Summit promises a dynamic and comprehensive program, reinforcing Dubai's role as a regional and global center for media, culture, and innovation.
