Erdogan says asked Trump to intervene over shootings at Gaza aid centers
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he asked US President Donald Trump to intervene to stop shootings at Gaza aid centers, which the UN says have killed more than 500 people. Erdogan said when he met Trump at a NATO summit in late June, he asked him to step in and halt the bloodshed. 'I asked him to intervene in the Gaza process telling him, 'You are the one who will best manage this process with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.' There are people who are being killed in food queues in particular. 'You need to intervene here so that these people are not killed',' he said, his remarks reported Saturday by Anadolu state news agency. Israel blocked supplies going into Gaza in early March, deepening a humanitarian crisis in the war-torn territory, but on May 26, a group called the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which is backed by Israel and the US, started delivering supplies. However its operations have since been marred by chaotic scenes and near-daily reports of Israeli forces firing on people waiting to collect rations from its distribution sites in Gaza, where the Israeli military says it is seeking to destroy Hamas militants. The UN Human Rights Office said Friday more than 500 people had been killed in the vicinity of the GHF sites. Israel's army has blamed Hamas for the incidents and this week, GHF's chairman Johnnie Moore denied any Palestinians have been killed in or near its four distribution sites. Erdogan said ending the 12-day Iran-Israel war had created a new opportunity to end the fighting in Gaza. 'The ceasefire between Iran and Israel has also opened a door for Gaza. Hamas has repeatedly demonstrated its good will in this regard,' he said just days after his spy chief and foreign minister met separately with senior Hamas officials. US pressure on Israel would be 'decisive' in securing the success of the latest proposal for a 60-day truce in Gaza, he remarked, saying the issue of guarantees was 'especially important.' 'In the event of a ceasefire, the international community needs to invest rapidly in reconstruction projects. If a permanent ceasefire can be achieved, a path to permanent peace in the region can be opened.'

Türkiye Says Israel Doesn't Want Diplomacy, Warns of Regional Disaster Amid Escalating Tensions

Speaking at a foreign ministers' meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul, Fidan called on Muslim countries to stand with Iran against Israel, and said the region had an "Israel problem" after its assault on Gaza and attacks on Lebanon, Syria, Yemen and Iran. The Israel-Iran war began on June 13, 2025, when Israel launched massive airstrikes targeting Iran's nuclear and military infrastructure. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks, escalating years of covert conflict into open warfare. This marks the first direct war between the two nations, raising fears of broader regional instability.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the 'biggest obstacle to regional peace' and that Israeli attacks on Iran right before a new round of nuclear talks with the United States aimed to sabotage the negotiations. Addressing Arab League diplomats during a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul on Saturday, Erdogan urged countries with influence over Israel not to listen to its 'poison' and to seek a solution to the fighting via dialogue without allowing a wider conflict. Israeli attacks on Iran show that Netanyahu 'and his government … do not want any issues or any matters to be solved diplomatically,' said Erdogan. 'Netanyahu's Zionist ambitions have no other purpose than to drag our region and … the whole world into a big disaster,' he added. Erdogan accused the Western leaders of providing 'unconditional support' to Israel. He said Turkiye would not allow borders in the Middle East to be redrawn 'in blood'. 'It is vital for us to show more solidarity to end Israel's banditry – not only in Palestine but also in Syria, in Lebanon and in Iran,' he told the OIC gathering. The 57-member OIC, founded in 1969, says its mission is to 'safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony'. Speaking before Erdogan, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan accused Israel of leading the Middle East towards 'total disaster' by attacking Iran. 'Israel is now leading the region to the brink of total disaster by attacking Iran, our neighbour,' he said. 'There is no Palestinian, Lebanese, Syrian, Yemeni or Iranian problem but there is clearly an Israeli problem.' Al Jazeera's Sinem Koseoglu, reporting from Istanbul, said Turkiye as the current OIC chair sees itself well-placed in helping to find a resolution to the Israel-Iran conflict. 'It is a NATO member country placed between the Western and Muslim worlds, and has strong bilateral relations with Iran, the Western world and the United States. And until a few years ago, it had strong relations with Israel,' she said. On Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said his country was only prepared to engage with the US if Israel stops its attacks on Iran. 'Iran is ready to consider diplomacy once again and once the aggression is stopped and the aggressor is held accountable for the crimes committed,' said Araghchi. 'We support the continuation of discussion with [Britain, France, Germany and the EU] and express our readiness to meet again in the near future.'

Erdogan blasts Israel's brutality, warns of Zionist influence and calls for regional defense

On national security, Erdoğan asserted that Türkiye now entirely relies on its own defense systems and is advancing toward full deterrence capability. 'Soon, just the thought of attacking Türkiye will terrify them,' he declared. 'If you want peace, prepare for war.' Erdoğan also criticized former allies who once sided with Israel and labeled Hamas as terrorists. Without naming names, he said they now lack the moral standing to question Türkiye's position. 'This is not a grocery store,' he concluded. 'We govern one of the greatest nations on Earth, the Republic of Türkiye, and we act not with cheap rhetoric, but with the responsibility and foresight of a state rooted in centuries of wisdom.'
