Israeli captive kisses Al-Qassam fighters during release, sparking global reactions

ALBAWABA - A viral video capturing Israeli captive Omer Shem Tov kissing the heads of Hamas' Al-Qassam Brigades fighters during his release in the seventh prisoner exchange deal has triggered widespread reactions on social media and in the media. The footage, filled with symbolic and emotional undertones, showcased the humane treatment of Israeli captives while in Gaza, a point that has been widely discussed in recent prisoner exchanges. A Remarkable Scene: Israeli Soldier Kisses Two Al-Qassam Fighters In another striking moment during the exchange, an Israeli captive kissed the heads of two Al-Qassam fighters while standing on the handover platform in Al-Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. As part of the seventh prisoner exchange, Hamas' military wing, Al-Qassam Brigades, handed over three Israeli captives to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Al-Nuseirat. Earlier in the day, two other captives were transferred in Rafah, bringing the total to five before the final captive was released later. Amid crowds of Gaza residents, the released Israeli captives greeted the audience with victory signs, which were met with cheers and celebration from the gathered crowd. Meanwhile, Israeli reports suggested that freed Israeli captives were under the influence of sedatives, downplaying the significance of the gesture.

Hamas frees three Israeli captives as 5th prisoner exchange begins - War on Gaza

Hamas released three Israeli captives on Saturday in exchange for 183 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails held by Israel in the fifth exchange of a fragile Gaza ceasefire. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Saturday that the images of three freed captives in Gaza were "shocking". "The shocking images that we have seen today will not go unaddressed," the office said in a statement after Hamas militants brought the three pale-looking hostages onto a stage before handing them over to the Red Cross. The Israeli military said that the three captives freed by Hamas on Saturday were now in the custody of its troops in Gaza. "Three returning hostages have just been transferred to IDF (military) and ISA (domestic security agency) forces in the Gaza Strip," the military said in a statement. Jubilant crowds in Israel's commercial hub, Tel Aviv, cheered as they watched live footage of the three hostages, flanked by masked gunmen, brought on stage in Deir el-Balah before being handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross. The stage was festooned with a banner bearing images of destroyed Israeli armoured vehicles and a dejected-looking Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel's prime minister. Dozens of armed Hamas fighters had formed a cordon around the open area where the release took place, apparently to control crowds of onlookers. The three hostages were identified as Eli Sharabi, Or Levy and Ohad Ben Ami. Former captive Yarden Bibas, who was freed last week by Hamas militants in Gaza, on Friday urged Netanyahu to help bring back his wife and two children from the Palestinian territory. "Prime Minister Netanyahu, I'm now addressing you with my own words... bring my family back, bring my friends back, bring everyone home," Bibas said in his first public message following his release. Hamas previously said his wife Shiri and his two sons Ariel and Kfir -- the youngest hostages -- were dead, but Israel has not confirmed their deaths. The exchange comes despite uproar in the region over a proposal by US President Donald Trump to clear out the Gaza Strip of its inhabitants and for the United States to take over the Palestinian territory. Netanyahu, who is in Washington, will "monitor this phase of the captives' release from the control centre of the delegation in the US", the premier's office said in a separate statement. Hamas releases 3 Israeli prisoners in exchange for 183 Palestinians

ALBAWABA- Hamas has finished the preparations to release three Israeli prisoners—Eli Sharabi, Or Levy, and Ohad Ben Ami—in exchange for 183 Palestinian detainees, including 18 serving life sentences. Abu Obeidah, the military spokesperson of Al-Qassam Brigades, confirmed the release, with the names of the Israeli prisoners later verified by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office. For the first time, Hamas has freed hostages from central Gaza, an area where the Israeli military has yet to conduct operations. Meanwhile, Israel's Prison Service is preparing to release Palestinian prisoners from Keziot and Ofer prisons once the Israeli prisoners' return is confirmed. Of those being freed, 111 were detained in Gaza during the war, while 72 are from the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Seven of the released Palestinians will be deported. Red Cross vehicles arrived in Deir al-Balah to facilitate the handover of the Israeli detainees. Israeli authorities have stated they will prevent any public celebrations marking the release of Palestinian prisoners. This exchange comes amid controversy surrounding a reported proposal by U.S. President Donald Trump to depopulate Gaza and place it under U.S. control—an idea that has sparked widespread uproar in the region. عاجل | فريق الصليب الأحمر يستعد لتسلم الأسرى الإسرائيليين الثلاثة من دير البلح وسط قطاع غزة — الجزيرة - عاجل (@AJABreaking) February 8, 2025
