ALBAWABA - Heavy clashes erupted on Monday night between Libyan rival armed groups in Tripoli, triggering a security crisis and leading to the death of Libyan militia leader Abdel Ghani al-Kikli killed in Tripoli clashes.
Libyan authorities confirmed the death of Abdel Ghani al-Kikli, commonly known as 'Gheniwa', who was the head of the powerful Stability Support Authority (SSA) militia. He was killed inside the headquarters of the 444th Combat Brigade, affiliated with the Tripoli Military Region, after it was exposed to gunfire.
Social media sites have circulated videos and footage purporting to show the assassination of Al-Kikli and his companions. The footage shows four dead men, covered in blood, surrounded by men in military uniform.

Gunfire and explosions were reported in several districts late Sunday, with military vehicles, tanks, and militia fighters seen deployed across the city.

Abdel Ghani al-Kikli was one of Tripoli's most influential militia leaders and had recently been involved in disputes with rival armed groups, including factions linked to Misrata.
Al Jazeera reported that al-Kikli's SSA is under the Presidential Council, which came to power in 2021 with the Government of National Unity (GNU) of Abdul Hamid Dbeibah and it was recognized by the United Nations.
