Maharashtra: 7 Dead As Pickup Van Falls; CM Fadnavis Announces ₹4 Lakh Aid
Seven people were killed while several others were injured after a pick-up van fell 25-30 feet down a slope in Papalwadi village under the Mahalunge MIDC police station area in Maharashtra on Monday. The van carrying women and children to the Kundeshwar temple was involved in the accident. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shivaji Pawar, said that the injured have been admitted to various hospitals. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the death of seven people. "A tragic incident occurred under the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate at Kundeshwar, where a pickup vehicle carrying devotees visiting for Shravan Monday darshan met with an accident, resulting in the death of 7 people. This event is deeply saddening. I offer my heartfelt tributes to them. We share in the grief of their families. Seven died and several were injured when a van fell off the road in Pune. PM Modi and CM Fadnavis expressed grief and announced compensation for victims' families. In a tragic incident, at least seven people were killed, and several others were injured after a pick-up van they were travelling in fell off the road on a hilly terrain in Maharashtra's Pune on Monday. The victims, all natives of Papalwadi village, were on their way to Kundeshwar Temple in Khed tehsil to pay obeisance to mark an auspicious day of the Shravan month when the accident took place, news agency PTI reported. 'There were around 30 to 35 passengers, including women and children, in the pick-up van. As per preliminary probe, the vehicle fell 25 to 30 feet down the road while negotiating a ghat section," an official from Pimpri Chinchwad police said. He said seven people have died in the accident, and several others sustained injuries and have been admitted to nearby hospitals. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the accident and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of each deceased, while the injured would be given Rs 50,000. 'Saddened by the loss of lives due to an accident in Pune, Maharashtra. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the mishap. May the injured recover soon. An ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000," the Prime Minister's Office said in a post on X.
