I Tell All Beginners to Start With This Affordable 3D Printer, and It's $80 Off Right Now

These prices make the A1 Mini incredibly compelling for anyone who's curious about getting started with 3D printing. For almost 10 years now, I've been testing and using a variety of 3D printers. I recently had the chance to try out the latest model from Bambu Lab, the H2D, and wrote about that model here. The company has made quite a few quality 3D printers, and one of its devices, the A1 Mini Combo, has become a firm favorite in my household. The A1 Mini Combo is on the smaller side but reliably produces excellent print quality. With a number of printers to choose from, it's the one we break out whenever we need a small something printed quickly. If you're already immersed in the 3D printing world, you may find the Mini too small for you, but if you're new to 3D printing or you know someone who's been thinking about getting into the hobby, this is one you'll definitely want to consider. That's especially true when you can find it at a discount. I've been using the Mini since it first came out in 2023, and it's such a simple machine to use. It's the one I fire up when I want something quickly and easily. The bed is small, just 180 by 180 millimeters, so you can't print giant things like helmets or masks, but you can make smaller pieces like sculptures or detailed miniatures for your Dungeons & Dragons game. It prints speedily, too, with a max print speed of 500mm/s, meaning you can print little jobs nice and fast. It also comes with a four-color system called the AMS lite that will feed four different materials into the printer so you can make full-color models like what's in the image below. It will fit on a normal desk, even with the AMS color system. It's pretty quiet, and, as long as you have a bucket to catch the waste, clean to have in your home. If you are using it inside, I would recommend using safe materials like PLA or PETG, especially in a bedroom. Ideally, you would want it to be in a spare room or garage if possible. They agree that the A1 Mini is a great starting place, though you may need something bigger as you advance in the craft. Why this deal matters 3D printing can be an expensive hobby. A new 3D printer is a big-ticket item and the cost of filament adds up over time too, so any savings you can find are important. The A1 Mini Combo is also excellently priced to be a gift for someone you know who wants to jump into the world of 3D printing -- or to try it out yourself without making a huge investment. 3D Printer Breaks Kickstarter Record, Raises $44M
The Kickstarter campaign is the most funded project in the history of the crowdfunding site, with pledges from 17,220 individual backers. When eufyMake, the creative tool brand under electronics company Anker Innovations, launched a Kickstarter campaign in April, it had an ambitious goal — to raise half a million dollars within two months to fund a new 3D printer, capable of printing designs on everything from blocks of wood to tote bags. The campaign immediately took off, raising over $10 million in 14 hours, according to a press release. Now, with less than two days to go before the campaign ends, Seattle-based eufyMake has raised over $44 million, breaking the Kickstarter record for the most funded project in the history of the crowdfunding site. (The previous record of $41.7 million was set by fantasy author Brandon Sanderson's Kickstarter campaign in March 2022 for four new novels.) UV printers, or ultraviolet curing inkjet printers, use UV light to dry inks instantly as they are printed on a variety of materials, like wood, metal, and glass. EufyMake claims to have made the world's first personal UV printer, the E1. The printer turns 2D designs into 3D-textured artwork, with no prior experience with the technology required. A user places any surface under the printer and can print out a personalized message, photo, or design on the surface. There's a 3D element — the printer can stack filament to create texture in the finished product. The E1 is capable of printing directly on objects like phone cases, laptops, tote bags, cups, or banners, opening the doors for businesses that focus on customized products. The printer has a maximum print area of 180 by 130 millimeters, and can work with objects up to 50 millimeters thick. One popular option on Kickstarter, with over 3,700 backers at the time of writing, is the sold-out $1,970 early bird E1 rotary bundle, which allows users to print on cups, tumblers, and ceramic mugs as well as print 3D textures up to 5 millimeters in height on solid surfaces. The estimated delivery for the bundle is in July. Options still available for sale include the E1 Basic Bundle kit, which is priced at $1,900. The bundle is capable of printing 3D textures that are up to 5 millimeters in height on metal, wood, acrylic, ceramic, and solid materials. Nearly 100 backers have chosen this option at the time of writing, and the estimated delivery window for the product is in August. The most expensive option still available for sale is the $2,752 deluxe bundle, which allows users to print designs on fabrics like tote bags, wallets, and hats, as well as print on flat surfaces like banners. The new most funded project in Kickstarter history is not something I expected
Popular crowd-funding site Kickstarter has crowned a new 'most funded project' in its history. And yes, it's a printer. I know, wild right? The Eufy Make E1 has managed to raise a staggering $44 million from almost 17,000 backers at time of writing, and there are still three days of crowd funding to go. That's considerably more than the $500,000 goal it had set out to raise. Recommended Videos The printer has wrestled back top spot from the non-tech, four novel series by author Brandon Sanderson project which amassed a hugely impressive $42 million of funding back in August 2024. That book series absolutely blew the previous record holder out the water, as the Pebble Time (remember that) had held the most funded project title since December 2016, having raised just over $20 million. What I didn't have on my 2025 bingo card was for a printer to be quite so gosh darn popular. This must be a pretty good printer, right? Well, you'll be pleased to know this isn't your run-of-the-mill inkjet printer. The Eufy Make E1 is a 'personal 3D-texture UV printer', and yes, I didn't have a clue what that meant at first either. So what does that mean? Eufy says the Make E1 'is the first consumer-grade UV printer capable of printing 3D textures up to 5mm thick', noting that it's '90% smaller than conventional UV printers.' The Make E1 can print on a wide range of surfaces, including metal, wood, fabric, canvas, leather, and acrylic, printing textures on these surfaces to give you a tactile feel to the finished product. You can print directly on objects such as mugs and flasks, and the neat thing about UV printers is their ability to accurately reproduce millions of colors. Now if you're thinking that sounds a bit much for printing out homework or the latest finance report, you'd be right. This isn't a printer which is designed for every home. The Make E1 is aimed at creators and entrepreneurs, folks who run small businesses or want a side hustle selling unique prints, but its compact size means it can probably fit in your home if you're intrigued. Eufy is an established technology brand as well, making a range of smart home products including robot vacuums, smart cameras, security systems and video doorbells. Some things in the printer world don't change though. You'll still need to purchase ink cartridges (which are $42.99 for 100ml), with six colors required for the full gamut of options. That's $257.94 for a complete set of ink. If you're planning on printing a lot, the ink cost is going to quickly start adding up. The Eufy Make E1 will currently set you back $1,899 and you've got until 6:57 AM PDT / 9:57 AM EDT on June 28 to place an order via Kickstarter.
