Roger De Coster retires as US MXoN manager

Roger De Coster has retired as the manager of the U.S. Motocross team, bringing to a close a 44-year career in the role. During his tenure, De Coster has led his teams to 25 titles in the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme World Championship event. 'I always wanted our sport to become bigger, more important and more respected around the world,' De Coster said in a news release. 'This is why I raced in many places around the world besides the GPs — Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Australia — and ended up in the United States for good. For me, the Motocross of Nations became the single biggest race of the year, and I am very thankful to the U.S. riders and all the people who supported this event with their best efforts and gave me the support to fulfill a lot of my dreams.' Guidance of Team USA in the Motocross of Nations (MXoN) moves to the American Motorcycle Association (AMA) director of racing, in an arrangement similar to most FIM National Federations. 'The hardest job in the world might be following in the footsteps of Roger 'The Man' De Coster because it should go without saying that no one can fill Roger's shoes,' said AMA Director of Racing Mike Pelletier. 'Of course, that's not our intention here, but simply to adopt the model that other national teams use with success, allowing ourselves to leverage the contributions and input from our riders and their managers. Team USA almost always includes riders from multiple teams with different ideas and strategic thinking.' Dan Beaver, De Coster has managed Team USA 36 times in MXoN, four of those in the Trophee des Nations race that, prior to 1984, featured 250cc motorcycles. De Coster won all four Trophee des Nations races and 21 MXoNs. 'There has not been a more important or popular global ambassador for this entire sport than Roger De Coster,' said Davey Coombs, President of MX Sports Pro Racing. 'In the 1960s, Roger helped introduce Americans to professional motocross through the Inter-Am tour, and then showcased the sport to much of the rest of the world during his reign as a five-time FIM 500cc World Champion in the 1970s. 'After retiring as a racer in 1980, Roger quickly moved to America and helped lead Team USA to the top of the world for the first time in 1981, and he has helped maintain that success ever since. Throughout his time with American Honda, Suzuki, and most recently KTM, Roger De Coster has played a vital role in leading each brand to new heights on the AMA circuit. His influence and leadership contributions will be felt for many years to come.' This year's MXoN event is at Ironman Raceway USA in Crawfordsville, Indiana, October 3-5. This week, it was announced that the U.S. will also host the MXoN in 2028 and 2031. 'Roger has inspired generations of racers to want to compete in the Motocross of Nations and represent their home countries,' added Feld Motor Sports Vice President - Supercross, Dave Prater. 'Roger is in a class by himself, and his success with Team USA is unequaled and will go unmatched. On behalf of Feld Motor Sports and the SMX League, we would like to thank Roger for his enduring commitment and passionate leadership to Team USA.' De Coster was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999. Nudist cruise passenger reveals what type of people go on a £3,000 naked voyage

A nudist cruise passenger revealed all about what it's like to go on a naked cruise. An 'experienced nudist' explained in a Reddit post how they'd booked on to an infamous Bare Necessities voyage - on which some staterooms cost $3,920 (£2,933). In a post titled 'I just disembarked from a 2,000 person nude cruise. AMA', the nudist of ten years told of their time on the cheeky holiday - and what kind of people they met onboard. In the post, they explained the trip with Bare Necessities was specifically marketed for nudists rather than as a 'lifestyle' cruise, and all of the staff members were clothed. 'Generally speaking, the crowd was older and not particularly attractive. However, there were attractive people too,' they wrote. The traveller added that it was 'very much a 50's-70's crowd'. They noted there were 'some younger people' but these were in the 'minority'. The naturist paid $2,500 (£1,884) for their spot on the Bare Necessities cruise - and described the experience as 'awesome'. Speaking about what the cruise had to offer, they added: 'Great weather and the opportunity to do a bunch of fun things nude (beaches, resorts, dancing, be at bars, etc.).' But health and safety comes first on the ship, with passengers following certain protocols. 'No nudist would place her or his butt on a surface before laying a towel down first,' the traveller explained. They quipped: 'Nudists are as interested in hygiene as much as if not more than the next guy.' As for sun cream, the nudist revealed they packed 'the same amount you usually need, and then a little more.' Despite it being a nudist cruise, clothing was still necessary in some restaurants. The holidaymaker said: 'Some of the restaurants required clothing, but not all did. 'Yes, it's a little strange to be eating naked but you only live once.' The tourist finished by providing insight as to why they were interested in such a trip and their life as a nudist. Explaining how liberating they find the practice, they said: 'The "why" is because it's a nice feeling to be nude, just like it's a nice feeling for a man to be without a shirt at the beach. 'Skinny dipping is great. 'Being nude at some of the world's nicest beaches is great.'

Two meteor showers will peak simultaneously tonight: How and when to watch

(NEXSTAR) – July is once again exiting in style, treating stargazers to a meteor shower double-feature this week. The Southern Delta Aquariid and the Alpha Capricornid meteor showers will peak at the same time, in the early morning hours Wednesday. While perhaps not as stunning as the Perseids, which light up the sky in mid-August, often leaving long, sometimes-colorful 'wakes,' conditions will be good this week. The moon is waxing and only about a quarter full, so the meteors should appear bright, especially for stargazers outside of urban areas with lots of light pollution. With each shower expected to produce up to a dozen visible meteors per hour under dark skies, the doubleheader means the total number of meteors 'do add up,' said Thaddeus LaCoursiere, planetarium program coordinator at the Bell Museum in St. Paul, Minnesota. 'Look for flashes of light in the night sky,' he said, adding that both are 'very nice classic meteor showers.' The Alpha Capricornids — produced by slower-moving meteors — may have tails that linger slightly longer in the sky, said Nick Moskovitz of the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona. Viewing of each shower lasts through August 12. What is a meteor shower? Meteor showers, or events during which meteors can be seen radiating from a particular point in the sky, are often annual, predictable occurrences, according to the American Meteor Society (AMA). The showers themselves are usually named after the constellation in which they appear to come from. 'The showers occur when the Earth passes through a region having a greater than usual concentration of interplanetary debris, such as particles left by a disintegrating comet, at certain points in its orbit,' the AMA states on its website. 'Although the meteors enter the Earth's atmosphere on parallel trajectories, perspective makes it appear as if they originate from the same point in the sky, known as the radiant.' How to observe a meteor shower Want to see a meteor shower? Do everything you can to minimize light interference. Heading out of the city and away from street and other city lights is a good start. You may also want to pack some coffee and head out early – predawn hours when the moon is low are a great time to view meteors. Let your eyes adjust to the darkness and keep looking up – resist the temptation to look down at your phone's bright screen.

RFK Jr.'s plans for health panel spark "deep concerns" from medical group

The American Medical Association is expressing "deep concern" after a report that Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy may be planning to remove all members of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. The task force, also known as the USPSTF, is a panel of independent medical experts whose recommendations help guide insurance companies and doctors' decisions about a range of preventive health measures, like cancer and diabetes screenings as well as HIV and cholesterol drugs. In a letter posted on Sunday, the AMA — the largest association of physicians in the U.S. — addressed Kennedy over a report published Friday in The Wall Street Journal. The WSJ story cited sources familiar with the matter as saying Kennedy plans to dismiss the task force members because he views them as too "woke." "USPSTF plays a critical, non-partisan role in guiding physicians' efforts to prevent disease and improve the health of patients by helping to ensure access to evidence-based clinical preventive services," the AMA's letter said. "As such, we urge you to retain the previously appointed members of the USPSTF and commit to the long-standing process of regular meetings to ensure their important work can continue without interruption." Doctors also have expressed concerns about the potential changes. Infectious disease physician Dr. Shelley Kon shared she's "deeply alarmed" at the reported plans. "The current members are volunteer experts in their field, vetted for conflicts of interest. As a physician, I rely on their expertise and recommendations when discussing preventive care with my patients in the clinic," Kon said in an emailed statement, adding she's especially concerned about the potential impact to safe and effective medication to prevent HIV. "We have to insist that our guidelines are based on science, evidence-based medicine, and shared decision-making — not politics. Our nation's health depends on it," she said. Dr. Thomas Lew, an assistant clinical professor of medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine and attending physician of hospital medicine at Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley, had similar concerns about preventative care. "This will greatly damage all the work we've done in preventative care, making people sicker, and driving up costs and premiums," he said. "To put it mildly, this is extremely concerning — and doing the opposite of making America healthy." In a statement to CBS News Friday, an HHS spokesperson said, "No final decision has been made on how the USPSTF can better support HHS' mandate to Make America Healthy Again." The task force was created more than 40 years ago, but its work took on added significance after passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010. The law requires health insurers and group health plans to provide preventive services that are recommended by the task force without imposing co-pays, deductibles or other cost-sharing charges on patients. In June, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the structure of the task force, but ruled that its members are "inferior officers" that can be "removable at will" by the HHS secretary. As the case played out, nonprofit organizations warned the Supreme Court that eliminating cost-sharing for services like breast cancer screenings or HIV-prevention medications would dissuade patients from seeking medical care. Last month, Kennedy fired all 17 members of the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practice, also known as ACIP, a separate government panel of that makes vaccine recommendations. He later named eight new advisers, including several allies he has worked with closely over the years and some members with a history as vaccine critics. Kennedy has also shared big plans to shake up medical journals in the country. The health secretary told CBS News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook he wants to create new journals and even stop the publication of NIH-funded research in traditional journals. "We need to replicate studies, we need to publish raw data. We need to get away from the traditional journals, which are controlled by the pharmaceutical industry, and create our own journals, which we're going to do," Kennedy said. In response to Kennedy's claim that the pharmaceutical industry controls traditional journals, Dr. Eric Rubin, editor-in-chief of the New England Journal of Medicine, told LaPook, "that's incorrect." Hong Kong Developed Revolutionary Sauce EXOTICA UMAMI [EX M] Impresses Acclaimed International Chefs

HONG KONG SAR - Media OutReach Newswire - 29 July 2025 - The new revolutionary flavour enhancer EXOTICA UMAMI (known to Chinese speakers simply as, 'EX M') continues to win admirers and impress professional chefs with its versatility, flavour and time and money saving capability. The flavouring agent's newest convert is Italian chef Paolo Monti of acclaimed Hong Kong's Wan Chai ristorante AMA. Chef Monti has decided to add a new refined dish to his restaurant's menu incorporating the revolutionary umami alternative in a new dish of grilled pork neck with mashed potatoes, seasoned and marinated with EXOTICA UMAMI. 'We will marinate the meat with the EXOTICA UMAMI sauce,' Chef Monti explains. 'Then we will leave it in a vacuum bag so the sauce goes through all the meat and it will impart its essence and flavour. We will slow cook it in sous vide for one and a half hour to tenderize the meat at 64 degrees Celsius before charcoal grilling it. 'To serve, we thin slice the pork, still warm, and sit it on top of the Exotica Umami vacuum marinated steamed rustic mashed potato. Then we add some fresh chives, some good extra virgin olive oil, salt, and finish with some pink peppercorn. A few drops of balsamic will add a little sweetness at the end.' The dish is presented at a professional tasting event on July 30th and Chef Monti will be serving his new dish at AMA starting August 1st. A native of Rome, Chef Paolo Monti has been one the top Italian chefs in Hong Kong for over 20 years, famous for his amatriciana pasta. In 2022, he opened AMA Ristorante to showcase his Roman and Italian dishes made with fresh and seasonal ingredients. It was named a 'Top Italian Restaurants' in 2024 by Gambero Rosso International guide. Timeout also listed it as among the best Italian Restaurants to try in Hong Kong. Monti took a special interest in EXOTICA UMAMI after learning the sauce is based on inspiration of the 2,000 year old Roman marinade called Garum. Instead of anchovy, its Hong Kong-based creator Dan Gan developed this new alternative for salt, soy sauce and MSG by mainly using pork instead. 'EXOTICA UMAMI is like a modern version of the ingredient, Garum, from Ancient Roman Empire,' Chef adds. 'However, contrary to what Garum was, I find Exotica Umami is quite simple and clear in flavour. It does not overpower, suitable for the modern tastes. I find its strong thyme smell very earthy, very easy to approach. Once I tried EX M, I saw the benefits of this ingredient so I decided to play with it and explore, and I think I will explore it more over time.' Where the traditional method of Garum generates an overly intense pungent aroma, EXOTICA UMAMI has a non-invasive and pleasant tone on the nose, reflecting the refined experiments and effort to develop a condiment that can suit any cuisine, which Chef Monti concurs. 'It's good for making modern, contemporary dishes because it's not an overpowering umami unlike many other seasoning products. In terms of flavour, this just gives me a little bit of a help to create dishes with depth and is tasty in less time. That's a big issue in Hong Kong. We are always in a rush, right? So in just a few minutes you can create tastier things and this sauce is easy to handle. It's not something that can be messed up.' Chef Monti appreciates Exotica Umami for its refined, non-invasive umami which in this case the subtle savouriness complements the richness of pork neck and creamy mashed potatoes, adding depth while preserving the dish's natural flavours. Monti values its versatility and linkage to many types of ingredients, making it a superior choice for contemporary Italian cooking. 'Exotica Umami multiplies the taste and it truly has its own character' says Monti. AMA Ristorante is at 25/F, 208 Johnston Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong. Tel: (852) 2117 9789.
