CBS Anchor Stating Cardinals Are 'Rawdogging' Conclave Without Their Phones Stuns Users: 'Never Use That Phrase Again'
A CBS anchor stunned viewers during live coverage of the papal conclave by joking that cardinals were "raw-dogging it" without their phones, leaving some social media users amused and others calling for a ban on the phrase. The Vatican officially began its papal conclave on Wednesday, following the death of Pope Francis on April 21. CBS on the cardinals: "One thing we know they're not doing is checking Instagram because their devices have all been confiscated. I believe the kids call it rawdogging." — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) May 7, 2025 As part of centuries-old tradition, cardinals are completely cut off from the outside world during the process — no phones, internet, or media — to prevent outside influence on the selection of the new pope. This digital lockdown is enforced through military-grade signal jamming inside the Sistine Chapel, Mediaite reported. While covering the conclave on CBS, host Tony Dokoupil used the term "rawdogging it" to describe how cardinals would endure the phone-free proceedings. The comment drew laughter from the panel but quickly gained traction online due to the term's origin as slang for unprotected sex. Really sorry I lived long enough to hear someone say 'rawdogging' on the national news — Chargé d'Affaires (@BrandiAtkinson) May 7, 2025 "Really sorry I lived long enough to hear someone say 'rawdogging' on national news," one user lamented. Another added, "Why we gotta say that." Though now sometimes used more casually to describe enduring something without modern comforts, its use during solemn Vatican coverage struck many as jarring. Dawg why we gotta say that — Okie (and Texas) Political Memes (@OKPoliticalMeme) May 7, 2025 Online reaction was swift, with some users amused by the generational culture clash and others pleading with news anchors to "never use that phrase again." Let's never use that phrase again — Snake 🌻🐀🇵🇷🇨🇦 (@Snake9911Snake) May 7, 2025 The moment also drew broader attention to how modern slang is increasingly crossing into mainstream broadcast journalism, sometimes with awkward results. U.S. Vice President JD Vance jokes about detaining World Cup visitors
Article content VANCE: We'll have visitors from close to 100 countries. We want them to come, we want them to celebrate, we want them to watch the games. But when the time is up, they'll have to go home, otherwise they'll have to talk to Secretary Noem AUDIENCE: 🦗😳🦗😳 — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) May 6, 2025 Vance was referring to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who has become the face of ICE — Immigration and Customs Enforcement – and its crackdown on illegal immigrants. Noem often has been seen joining ICE on raids as it detains people. Noem also was at present at the World Cup meeting, where she said that 2 million foreign visitors are expected to come to the U.S. for the World Cup and that the handling of visitors' documents to get into the country will 'go smoothly.' U.S. President Donald Trump also boasted about how the tournament would generate 'tens of billions of dollars in economic activities for local businesses' and 'thousands and thousands of jobs for American workers.' Trump also touted that the event 'will be the biggest, safest and most extraordinary soccer tournament in history.' The United States is one of three host nations for the quadrennial event, along with Canada and Mexico. But the U.S. will host the majority of games – 78 out of the 104 total matches – and 11 of the 16 host cities are in America. FIFA president Gianni Infantino said that he is excited for next summer's event, which is set to run from June 11 to July 19 and will be the biggest World Cup yet, with the field expanded to 48 teams. 'America will welcome the world. Everyone who wants to come here to enjoy, to have fun to celebrate the game, will be able to do that,' Infantino said.

Donald Trump Was Completely Stumped By A Simple World Cup Question, And His Response Is Exactly What You'd Expect
Hot Topic 🔥 Full coverage and conversation on Politics Donald Trump on Tuesday appeared unaware that Russia has been banned from competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup — despite the soccer tournament being hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. During a meeting of the World Cup task force at the White House, a reporter asked the president for his stance on the ban, which was part of global sporting sanctions imposed on Russia following its 2022 invasion of Ukraine. 'I didn't know that. Is that right?' Trump responded. FIFA President Gianni Infantino, seated beside Trump, confirmed the ban: 'Yep, it is right. They are banned for the time being from playing but we hope that something happens and peace will happen and then Russia can be readmitted. That's what we hope.' Trump quickly distanced himself from any responsibility for the ban. 'He's the boss. I'm not the boss on that. I have nothing to do with that,' he said, motioning toward Infantino. Later, Trump floated the idea that lifting the ban could be 'a good incentive' for peace. Trump, during his 2024 campaign, vowed to end the Russia-Ukraine war on the first day back in office. But his efforts to broker a deal between the countries have so far stuttered.
Mike Johnson on Medicaid: "What we've talked about is returning work requirements ... you return the dignity of work to young men who need to be out working instead of playing video games all day. We have a lot of fraud, waste, and abuse in Medicaid."

Donald Trump Once Again Lost It Over A Reporter's Straightforward Tariffs Question: "So Stupid"
Donald Trump snapped at a reporter onboard Air Force One on Sunday over her line of questioning about his tariffs, which have sent stock markets tumbling and prompted criticism from even some of his most loyal supporters. Trump lashed out at Bloomberg's Annmarie Hordern when she asked if there is any 'pain in the market at some point you're unwilling to tolerate?' 'I think your question is so stupid,' Trump fired back. 'I mean, I think it's… I don't want anything to go down, but sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something. And we have such a horrible, we have been treated so badly, by other countries because we had stupid leadership that allowed this to happen,' he continued. Me: Is there a 'Trump put?' Trump: 'I think your question is so stupid. I don't want anything to go down, but sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something.' — annmarie hordern (@annmarie) April 7, 2025 Fox News / Acyn Trump was asked other questions by other journalists, and the talk briefly turned to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Hordern then tried to return to the topic of tariffs, but Trump used his now familiar tactic of asking: ' Who are you with? ' ― to sidestep the question. When the reporter told him Bloomberg, then he called on another journalist and said, 'She asks too many questions.' — Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) April 6, 2025 CNN / Aaron Rupar / Via Twitter: @atrupar
