Experts from The Post and Action Network handicap Saturday's 157th running of the Belmont Stakes at Saratoga. Post time is approximately 7:04 p.m. Vic Cangialosi New York Post racing handicapper 1. Rodriguez: This year's Belmont Stakes (at Saratoga) has been billed as a rematch between Sovereignty, the Kentucky Derby champ and Journalism, the Preakness winner. Last year, Dornoch sped to the lead and held on at a hefty price. As far as I know, this handicapper is the only 'expert' to pick the Belmont winner at Saratoga. Ever! That said, we will go with Bob Baffert's speedy Rodriguez, who will have to dance with the equally fast Crudo down the backstretch then hold off the heavy-hitting co-faves. Is he ready? Money Mike Smith will be the first to know. 2. Baeza: He's versatile. He's getting better. And he has already proven he can compete with the top-tier 3-year-olds. Stormed from the back of the pack in the Derby, but Flavien Prat may tap his speed and get the jump on the co-faves. This, I'm afraid, may upend our Rodriguez strategy. Backends a sizable exacta. 3. Journalism: Mike McCarthy's colt may be the best 3-year-old and even with the three-races-in-five-weeks theory, he is the horse to beat. 3 Post handicapper Michael Leboff predicts Preakness winner Journalism also will win the Belmont Stakes on Saturday. Getty Images Showed his toughness by bulling his way through stretch traffic to run down long shot Gosger in the Preakness. Gets the better of rival Sovereignty, but Rodriguez and Baeza may be fresher. Michael Leboff New York Post betting writer 1. Journalism: Odds aside, I think Journalism is the best pick to win the Belmont Stakes. He has shown he can win just about any type of race, putting him above Sovereignty for this battle. 2. Crudo: This is quite an intriguing horse. 3 Celebrity chef Bobby Flay poses next to his horse Belmont Stakes hopeful Crudo in his barn during a practice day before Saturday's Belmont Stakes. Jason Szenes / New York Post He's lightly raced and is coming off a monster performance at the Sir Barton Stakes, where he wired the field. 3. Sovereignty: Hard to poke holes in the second choice, but I think he had things break his way at the Kentucky Derby. Mike Conti Action Network racing handicapper 1. Journalism: The morning line favorite yet again. While he continues to find trouble, he is clearly talented and a length and a half away from competing for the Triple Crown. He has been training well, and if he runs his race, he wins. 2. Baeza: Ran third to Sovereignty and Journalism in the Kentucky Derby and second to Journalism in the Santa Anita Derby. 3 Baeza works out at Saratoga Race Course on June 6, 2025 in preparation for Saturday's Belmont Stakes. Getty Images He had traffic trouble in the Derby but still finished with interest. He should sit closer to the pace and have first run. 3. Hill Road: Won the Peter Pan last time out after stumbling at the start. He will need to improve off that race to compete here, but he should get the pace to run into.

New Study Tabs Steelers Fans Among Most Loyal in NFL

Pittsburgh Steeler fans cheer on the team during a victory over the Cleveland Browns in 2024.-- Ed Thompson / Steelers Now A new study has found that Pittsburgh Steelers fans are the fourth-most loyal fanbase in the NFL. The team at CanadaSportsBetting analyzed the attendance of NFL teams during their worst season (since 2000) and the season before this. The data allowed the team to pinpoint which fanbases are the most loyal, even when their team is struggling. Advertisement The Steelers actually saw a 2.8% increase in attendance during their last losing season in 2003. The Steelers have sold out every home game since 1972, dating back to when the team played at Three Rivers Stadium. 'If you're a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, you most likely remember (or have heard about) the 2003 season. It all stemmed from an unbalanced offense, a struggling run game and a wavering defense,' Ben Mendelowitz of Canada Sports Betting wrote. 'With injuries to key running backs and a declining ground attack, the team relied heavily on quarterback Tommy Maddox, leading to turnovers and missed opportunities. Combined with a defense that couldn't close out games, the Steelers stumbled to a 6–10 record, their worst under head coach Bill Cowher. 'And yet, they too received higher average attendance during this season, jumping from 63,966 to 65,782, which is a 2.84% increase.' Advertisement The Minnesota Vikings ranked No. 1 in showing the best fan commitment in the league. The team attendance increased by 6.9% during their tough 2011 season. In stark contrast, the Detroit Lions ranked as the least committed fanbase – they suffered an 11.1% drop in attendance throughout their winless 2008 campaign. Pittsburgh Steelers fans during a Steelers-Browns game at Acrisure Stadium on Dec. 8, 2024. — Ed Thompson / Steelers Now While the Steelers fanbase is among the most loyal, it's also one of the moodiest. A new study by Action Network found that the Steelers fanbase was one of the most moodiest in the 2024-2025 season, based off posts on social media. Steelers Nation was tabbed as the fifth-most moodiest, behind the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens. Advertisement Action Network analyzed 10.1 million negative posts on X and Reddit following all 285 games. Online posts were collected from both game day and the following day, regardless of the result. Action Network then grouped posts by game outcome, calculating the average number of negative posts after wins and losses for each team. 'Rounding out the top five, Steelers fans have continued to voice their frustrations with the team's coaching staff and management throughout the 2024-25 season. Fans left 435,320 total negative comments after their games, of which 236,940 came after their 8 losses since the regular season began,' Alicia Grimes of Action Network wrote. 'On average, a Steelers loss led to 29,618 frustrated social media comments. Their Wild Card knockout at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens generated the most backlash, with 46,240 moody posts in the aftermath. The Steelers' first loss of the season against the Colts in Week 4 led to the fewest angry comments (19,420).' Experts from The Post and Action Network handicap Saturday's 150th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico. Post time is approximately 7:01 p.m. Vic Cangialosi New York Post racing handicapper 1. Clever Again: The history books say speed kills in the Preakness. The two favorites, Journalism and Sandman, do their best running late. There are a couple in this field that might dance with Clever Again early. Bob Baffert's lightly raced Goal Oriented is the fastest and most likely challenger. If Jose Ortiz can win that battle, he can win the war. Steve Asmussen's colt hasn't raced since March so he's well rested. Loads off a triple-digit fig and Pimlico is speed favoring when it's fast. More so when it's wet. May prove tough to reel in. 2. River Thames: Do you like Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty? Then you have to consider Todd Pletcher's colt. Lost by a neck to the champ in the Fountain of Youth. Raced once since. Again narrowly defeated, finishing a close third in the Blue Grass. True contender, even though Pletcher is 0-for-10 at the Preakness and Irad Ortiz is 0-for-6. Stalks the pace, makes a run, but like his last two starts, he comes up a little short. 3. Journalism: You only get one chance to win the Derby. Made the most of his. Did everything asked of him, except win. Made steady progress in the mud. Finished strong. Just got outkicked. The Derby winner is skipping the middle jewel, so he is the one to beat. Again. Special horses can run 2¹/₂ miles in two weeks. Sovereignty's connections won't let him try. Maybe that race took something out of both of them. Game, but a tired third. Michael Leboff New York Post betting writer 1. Journalism: Odds aside, Journalism is the best pick to win the Preakness Stakes. He finished second at the Kentucky Derby, but still ran a terrific race. Plus, this field and setup is much softer than the one he saw at Churchill Downs. Preakness Stakes entrant Journalism works out at Pimlico Race Course on May 15, 2025, in Baltimore. AP 2. Gosger: Factoring in the odds, Gosger is my favorite bet on the board and a horse that has a terrific chance of outrunning his odds. He should be able to get out in front from his post position, which is his best path to success in this field. 3. Clever Again: Like Gosger, I like Clever Again's chances of getting to the front and battling his way to a podium finish. Definitely a horse to use in your exotics, as his price could drift with other entrants getting more support. Mike Conti Action Network racing handicapper 1. Journalism: Ran a valiant second in the Kentucky Derby, showing those of us who had doubts about the competition and field sizes out west that he's extremely talented and one of the best 3-year-olds in the country. The biggest question will be coming back in two weeks, but he again appears to be the most talented horse in the field. 2. Clever Again: The only other horse in the field to post a triple-digit Beyer Speed Figure, when he won the Hot Springs Stake at Oaklawn Park with relative ease last time out. Jockey Jose Ortiz had a ton of horse coming out of the turn and drew off from the rest of the field. Get the lowdown on the Best USA Sports Betting Sites and Apps He's bred to get the distance being a son of American Pharoah and is making his fourth career start, third as a 3-year-old, so it's reasonable to think he can improve off that last effort. 3. Goal Oriented: Won last time out on the Derby Day undercard, albeit against allowance company. That was only his second career start and first time stretching out. He showed a different running style from his maiden score, taking them gate to wire. Given his post position and the other speed, jockey Flavien Prat will most likely have to send him out of the gates to get positioning. Trainer Bob Baffert has won the Preakness a record eight times.

British Israelis urge Government to act on Gaza starvation

The petition, launched via non-profit ActionNetwork, was accompanied by a letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Foreign Secretary David Lammy containing detailed reference to Israel's use of starvation and aid blockades as an illegal weapon of war. Starmer and Lammy were urged to end the UK's trade and partnership agreement with Israel until it allowed 'food and medicine into Gaza in significant quantities'. READ MORE: UK firms sent Israel thousands of military items despite export ban The letter said: 'We are watching in horror the images coming from Gaza of malnourished babies and children. "Since the 2nd of March 2025, Israel's hard-right government has banned all aid from entering the Gaza Strip. "This hermetic siege is by far the longest and harshest ever to be imposed on the Strip.' Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government were referred to as 'the most extreme in Israel's history', noting that hostages from the October 7 attack have also been affected by the famine imposed on Gaza. Yair Wallach, an associate professor at SOAS University of London, urged other Israelis in the UK to sign the petition, writing on social media platform Bluesky that "pleading with Netanyahu's rogue government will not do". READ MORE: Irish broadcaster calls for 'discussions' on Israeli Eurovision involvement Palestinians are becoming increasingly desperate as a result of Israel's assault on Gaza, with the United Nations saying what little food is left in supermarkets is unaffordable for most and that 80% of the population are dependent on the contents of aid trucks stuck at the border. New plans were announced earlier this week regarding the seizure of the Gaza Strip, which would see hundreds of thousands of Palestinians displaced and forced into the south, worsening the already dire humanitarian crisis in the enclave. At least 61 people have been killed by Israeli strikes since this morning, with the total death toll since October 7, 2023, sitting at over 52,000.
