The End of Woke Hollywood
If more evidence were needed that the progressive snowflake era of Hollywood has officially melted, 'Basic Instinct,' a movie that cemented the ice-pick-wielding post-feminist man-slayer in the character of Sharon Stone's Catherine Tramell, is back. Amazon MGM just bought a spec script from Joe Eszterhas — yes, the man who brought the sexy in 'Flashdance,' 'Jade,' 'Sliver' and 'Showgirls' as well as 'Basic Instinct' in the '80s and '90s — in a $2 million deal to write what he has called an 'anti-woke' reboot. 'I don't believe in woke and I don't believe in being politically correct because I think it's not the truth, and I like the truth spoken,' Mr. Eszterhas, who gets an additional $2 million if the film gets made, told me in a recent interview about the deal. As for how the movie will be 'anti-woke,' he wouldn't say a lot other than it would be 'raunchy,' but I got the impression that he'd know it when he wrote it. Hollywood is rapidly shifting away from the socially conscious framework that for more than a decade has driven its narratives, casting and green lights. A new series on Netflix called 'The Hunting Wives' has Malin Akerman dressing up as the saucy Texas wife of a rich businessman, complete with big hair, a big rifle, a Southern twang and an affair with the teenage son of the pastor. Nearly everyone on the show is hot, horny and white. No less an authority than 'South Park' declared last month that 'woke is dead' in the season premiere that went viral for featuring President Trump crawling naked through the desert in a fake public service announcement. In the same episode, Cartman loses hope after learning that 'woke' has died. His once politically correct principal has suddenly embraced religion, inviting Jesus into their public school. (Cartman's later bid to asphyxiate himself with the car running in the garage fails because it is an electric vehicle.) Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

The 'best James Bond movie' is available to stream for free on ITV
A James Bond movie starring Daniel Craig that has been described as the most 'visually stunning' in the franchise is now available to stream on a major UK platform. In what is a huge win for devoted 007 fans, Skyfall has arrived on ITVX more than a decade after its release in 2012. Starring Javier Barden, Judie Dench and Ralph Fiennes, the thriller was a smash hit amongst fans and critics. It was also the third of Craig's performances, directed by Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes, who is known for 1917 and American Beauty, and shot by Roger Deakins. Taking to social media, @CinemaTweets1 said: 'Javier Bardem's performance as Raoul Silva is my favorite James Bond villain ever. Skyfall honestly feels like a stand-alone film or outlier from the rest of the Bond series given the creative decisions made by Sam Mendes. Bardem is also a big reason- he's a worthy adversary.' @BestMovieMom added: 'Skyfall will remain the most visually stunning James Bond film for a long time.' @Danimalish also said: 'Whenever I watch SKYFALL I'm convinced I'm watching the best James Bond film. 'From Daniel Craig's steely performance to the incredible supporting cast including Judi Dench, to of course Roger Deakins' immaculate cinematography. This was the peak of the Daniel Craig era.' Meanwhile, @TheCinesthetic wrote: 'As the third film in Craig's run, Skyfall isn't just a great Bond film…it's a visual triumph. Roger Deakins turned espionage into art.' The film follows Bond as he pursues an assassin in Istanbul to retrieve a stolen list containing the identities of undercover agents. Thunderball (1965) The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) Moonraker (1979) Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) However, the plan goes disastrously wrong, leaving Chief M (Dench) forced to take drastic action. The espionage thriller was nominated for five Oscars and went on to claim two of them for Best Sound Editing and Best Original Song, which was given to Adele. Its move on to ITVX comes as ITV dropped all episodes of a gripping crime thriller that fans hailed as 'phenomenal'. The tense eight-episode drama, Under the Bridge, has finally landed on ITV for viewers to watch for free in the UK, and you are in for an emotional rollercoaster. The 2024 series stars Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone opposite Daisy Jones and the Six actor Riley Keough. Elsewhere in the James Bond universe, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight was named as the screenwriter for the latest Bond film. More Trending Amazon MGM onfirmed on social media on Thursday night that Knight will pen the script for the next instalment. The announcement follows an intensive search by Amazon MGM, which gained full creative control of the Bond series earlier this year from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Skyfall is available to watch on ITVX. A version of this article was originally published on August 2, 2025. Got a story? Dave Bautista Joins 'Highlander' Reboot As Villain Opposite Henry Cavill
After much clamouring from fans for Dave Bautista to play the villain to Henry Cavill's ( Man of Steel , The Witcher ) Highlander Connor MacLeod, word is that the Guardians of the Galaxy star is in final negotiations to join the Amazon MGM reboot of 1986's cult classic Highlander . Dave Bautista In the original Highlander , Christopher Lambert ( Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance ) portrayed MacLeod, a medieval Scottish Highlander who learns he is immortal. He is mentored by Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, played by Sean Connery ( James Bond films), and ultimately engages in a centuries-spanning conflict with other immortals, adhering to the film's iconic line 'there can only be one'. The new action-fantasy film, produced under Amazon MGM's United Artists banner, is confirmed for a theatrical release and sees Bautista joining Cavill, Russell Crowe ( The Pope's Exorcist , Gladiator ), and Marisa Abela ( Back to Black ) in the cast. Cavill will star as MacLeod, with Crowe taking on the role of Ramirez. In this new version, Bautista may helm the role of The Kurgen , a ruthless immortal barbarian, who has murdered others across centuries to absorb their essence. In the original, this formidable antagonist was memorably portrayed by Clancy Brown ( The Penguin ). Bautista's near-confirmed casting marks both a full-circle moment and the realisation of a long-running fan wish. He was previously in talks to play the Kurgan in 2015, when an earlier version of Highlander was in development under director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan ( The Huntsman: Winter's War ) for Summit Entertainment. More recently, fans have imagined Cavill and Bautista as rival immortals in a series of fan-made trailers. Chad Stahelski, director of the John Wick series, is at the helm of the upcoming film. Principal photography is scheduled to begin at the end of September, with filming set to take place across locations in the UK and Hong Kong. Michael Finch, co-writer of John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), penned the screenplay. Production isled by Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt under United Artists, Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski's 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner also serving as producers. Dave Bautista as J.J. in My Spy (2020) Bautista's likely casting marks a return to Amazon feature projects. He has starred in the action comedies My Spy (2020) and its sequel, is in post-production on The Wrecking Crew opposite Jason Momoa, and is reportedly in talks for the sequel to Road House (2024), all in collaboration with Amazon. An exact release date for Highlander has not yet been set, though Stahelski previously said it would likely arrive in either 2027 or 2028. Conversation with Ting Wei is like chatting with a weird AI bot programmed only with One Piece lore and theories, sitcom quotes and other miscellaneous pop culture references. When he's not sleeping, he's highly likely reading manga. In fact, the only thing he reads more than manga is the Bible, and it's honestly pretty close. dave bautista Henry Cavill Highlander Highlander Reboot Russell Crowe

Dave Bautista to Play Villain in "Highlander" Remake
Yara Sameh Dave Bautista is in final talks to play the villain in Amazon MGM's remake of the 1980s cult classic "Highlander". He will join Henry Cavill and Russell Crowe in the action fantasy, which hails from Amazon MGM's United Artists banner. Chad Stahelski is directing the feature that is due to begin principal photography at the end of September and shoot in the UK and Hong Kong. The original Highlander, released in 1986, starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, a Medieval Scottish Highlander who discovers he is an immortal warrior. With the help of a swordsman named Ramirez, played by Sean Connery, the titular Highlander battles other immortals across the centuries, culminating in a modern battle in which, like the classic line of dialogue goes, 'there can be only one.' The movie went back and forth from various time. In the remake, Cavill is playing MacLeod while Crowe is Ramirez. Industry actress Marisa Abela also has a leading part. Bautista will have the plum role of the immortal barbarian known as The Kurgen, who has been killing other immortals across the centuries in order to absorb their essence. Clancy Brown memorably played the character in the original movie. Bautista's imminent boarding is both a full circle moment and a fancast materializing IRL. Bautista was circling Kurgen back in 2015 when a version was being put together under the direction of Cedric Nicolas-Troyan for Summit Entertainment. In recent months, fans have shipped Cavill and Bautista as opposing immortal warriors in fan-made trailers (look, we'll to link to one, but it's just bad.) Michael Finch wrote the script for the remake. Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt are producing alongside Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski's 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner. Bautista has been making Amazon one of his prime destinations, with Highlander just the latest feature project for the streamer. He has starred in Amazon action comedies "My Spy" and its sequel and is in post on action comedy "The Wrecking Crew", opposite Jason Momoa. He is also in talks to star in Amazon's sequel to "The Roadhouse." read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results
