Stellantis Pro One begins Cargo Box BEV production in Italy

Stellantis Pro One, the commercial vehicles division of Stellantis, has announced the start of production for the Cargo Box battery electric vehicle (BEV) at the Atessa plant in Italy. This facility is known for manufacturing Stellantis' Large Vans, such as the Citroën Relay, Fiat Professional Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, and Vauxhall Movano. The Cargo Box BEV has a cargo capacity of 18.3m3. Its interior dimensions measure 4,230mm in length, 2,032mm in width, and 2,150mm in height. Based on the Battery Electric Chassis Cab version, it delivers 410Nm of maximum torque with a power of 200kW (270hp), coupled with a 110kWh battery, allowing for a driving range of up to 323km. For customers requiring additional cargo space, the Cargo Box BEV will also be available in the L4 configuration, which increases the cargo volume to 20.5m3, with an internal length of 4,500mm and a height of 2,300mm. Stellantis Pro One has enhanced the Large Van range by introducing 22kW AC charging as standard, enabling a full charge in six hours, which is half the time required by the former 11kW solution. The Atessa plant features 15km of assembly line production, the 'largest body shop' in the Stellantis network, and a paint shop that adheres to the latest energy and environmental sustainability standards. Capable of producing more than 1,200 different configuration types, the Atessa plant offers a comprehensive production ecosystem with 14 engines, four types of transmission, more than 300 options, and eight van volumes, resulting in more than 2,500 different versions. It is also a hub for Stellantis CustomFit, a conversion and customisation programme that includes partnership with more than 550 certified partners globally. Stellantis Pro One division head Anne Abboud said: 'The launch of the Cargo Box BEV confirms the outstanding journey of this plant dedicated to proactively and quickly meeting the needs of our professional clients, according to the principles of efficiency, maximum quality, and time to market.' Recently, Stellantis has chosen ABB's PixelPaint technology for delivering precision paint finishes for DS Automobiles' new DS N°8 all-electric flagship. Stellantis may close factories due to EU fines for carbon emissions

ROME, July 1 (Reuters) - Stellantis ( opens new tab may have to close factories due to the risk of hefty European Union fines for not complying with CO2 emission targets, the head of the Franco-Italian automaker for Europe said on Tuesday. European car manufacturers have to sell more electric vehicles to cut CO2 emissions or risk penalties as part of the bloc's efforts to limit the catastrophic effects of climate change. The automaker industry has successfully lobbied for more time to comply, as fines will be based on 2025-2027 emissions rather than just in 2025. Stellantis' Europe chief Jean-Philippe Imparato said the targets were still unreachable for automakers, and exposed his company to fines of up to 2.5 billion euros ($2.95 billion) within "two-three years." Speaking at a conference in the lower house of parliament in Rome, he said that without significant changes in the regulatory situation by the end of this year, "we will have to make tough decisions." This is because Stellantis would either have to double its electric vehicle sales, which is impossible, or cut the production of petrol and diesel vehicles, Imparato said, so as to improve the energy mix of its fleet in favour of electric. "I have two solutions: either I push like hell (on electric) ... or I close down ICE (internal combustion engine vehicles). And therefore I close down factories," he said, at one point mentioning the Italian van-making plant of Atessa. ($1 = 0.8489 euros)

Stellantis extends Italy voluntary redundancy scheme

ROME, June 10 (Reuters) - Stellantis ( opens new tab has expanded its voluntary redundancy scheme for Italy, affecting almost 700 workers at two plants in the south of the country, and bringing to almost 2,500 the planned workforce reduction this year, the carmaker said late on Tuesday. "The company, with the aim of supporting early retirement or different career opportunities, has signed an agreement today with trade unions for 250 voluntary exits in the Cassino plant and another 427 voluntary exits in Atessa," a statement said. Since April, Stellantis has announced similar packages at other assembly plants in Italy, including Melfi and Pomigliano in the south and Mirafiori in northern Turin, the birthplace of its Fiat brand, affecting some 2,439 people in total. It also offered this year permanent jobs to around 200 people at the Atessa and Mirafiori plants, most of whom were previously on temporary contracts or with advisory positions. The company in May named Antonio Filosa as the new CEO as it seeks to recover from plunging sales and profit. It has fewer than 40,000 staff in Italy, down from 55,000 in early 2021. It was created from the merger of Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot maker PSA.
