BMW Increases XM Discounts to Over $22,000
BMW M took a big risk by making its first flagship since the incredible M1 in the late 1970s a radically styled SUV with a hybrid powertrain. And with critical reception tepid at best and sales figures that trail every other BMW in the stable, you may not be terribly surprised to learn that BMW is offering some of its most aggressive rebates ever on the BMW XM. View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article According to a recent dealer bulletin uncovered by CarsDirect, eligible customers can save a total of up to $22,500 on the first-ever BMW M plug-in hybrid. That comes by way of a $5,000 rebate for Conquest (coming from a competing brand) or Loyalty (current BMW driver), meaning that regardless of your current choice of conveyance, BMW will give you $5,000 for taking home an XM. That savings stacks with an existing $15,000 in incentives when financing or paying cash, but by leasing, you can save $17,500 for a total of $22,500 off on your BMW XM. It's important to note that these offers are only available on the remaining 2024 model year XM SUVs. Lest you fear you're completely out of luck, Autotrader currently shows 60 remaining new 2024 BMW XM units in the US as of this writing. I think I spied one of each color, even, so clearly there's plenty of choice. It also further illuminates why BMW is heavily incentivizing the model. The XM is, whether you agree with it or not, positioned as the crown jewel of the M Series, and new units shouldn't be celebrating birthdays on dealer lots. View the 2 images of this gallery on the original article Historically, the BMW XM sits dead last in sales for the brand. BMW moved less than 2,000 of them in the United States last year, and global sales sat at 7,813—about 25% below even the niche BMW Z4 roadster. Critics claim the XM is too heavy, too similar to other BMWs in the lineup, and, frankly, too unattractive to be considered a true M halo car. Personally, I enjoyed driving the XM and feel that it might be a good vehicle in its own right. But its positioning as the "ultimate M car" is way off. Saving $22,500 is substantial, but when you realize even the least expensive 2024 BMW XM starts at somewhere around $160,000, it's still a tough sell. Fun fact: the $22,500 discount places the XM well within striking distance of the X6 M's base price of $132,100. That car ditches the hybrid system and is actually around half a second quicker from zero to 60 mph. It's more nimble, too, since it weighs half a planet less. If you have been waiting for the opportune moment, though, now is a better time than any to get behind the wheel of BMW's polarizing M hybrid.

Rash of car thefts in Washington Twp. leave residents concerned: police
The Brief Residents in a New Jersey neighborhood have reported multiple car thefts in the area. Police have opened an investigation and warned residents to stay vigilant. WASHINGTON TWP., NJ - A rash of car thefts in Washington Township, New Jersey, has residents concerned. This is an ongoing investigation. What we know Early Sunday morning, Frankie Mazzuca's friend and neighbor had not one, but two vehicles stolen right out of his driveway on Egg Harbor Road in Sewell. "What my neighbor said, he was asleep. It was 3:30 in the morning," Frankie said. The victim's wife posted a warning on Facebook to let neighbors know their pickup was stolen first, and then two hours later, the thieves came back for their Corvette, which they thought they heard being started. "He didn't think anything of it. You just don't think anything of that living in this neighborhood," Frankie added. Another neighbor, who did not want to go on camera, shared his surveillance video from the same morning, showing a man opening and getting into his locked car but not able to start it before moving on to the house next door. "They're doing it in the middle of the night. I would like to think I could sleep through the night and not have to worry about that. Not going to catch me at 3:30 in the morning looking out my house," Frankie said, expressing his frustration. Nicholas Riley, who lives a few doors down, always locks his car but worries these thieves are smart. "To me, it seems like they know what they are doing. We heard family didn't catch anything on their cameras, so they might be walking around with some kind of jammer or something," Nicholas said. Washington Township police released a picture of a 2023-2024 BMW XM, which they say was likely stolen and wanted in connection with the recent rash of thefts. What you can do Police are warning residents to be vigilant. They even put up a big lighted sign outside the police station encouraging residents every night at nine to take a few minutes to make sure to lock your car and put your keys inside. Also, remove all valuables. They suggest turning on your exterior lights and being sure to lock your home, garage, and gates. Police say a little prevention goes a long way. Retro-Styled 2015 Chevrolet 'Chevelle' Camaro Somehow Doesn't Make Me Want To Commit Arson To Save My Eyes
Unlike a lot of, shall we say, older automotive enthusiasts, I don't like restomods. Sure, they can look cool, but I've also never driven one that actually felt properly sorted or worth the money. Maybe they're out there, but I haven't driven them. Sadly, grafting a vintage body onto a modern chassis doesn't usually work much better since the resulting cars look more like something you'd get from only even more cursed. So imagine my surprise when I saw the Mecum auction listing for this Chevelle-bodied 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS and didn't immediately want to set it on fire. I'm not going to call this the most beautiful car I've ever seen, as that award obviously goes to the BMW XM, but with different wheels, it's also a car I wouldn't be completely embarrassed to be seen driving. Somehow, it actually mostly works. Sure, you can tell it isn't an actual Chevrolet Chevelle, but it actually mostly pulls off the whole charade. Even if you don't like the idea of it, you have to appreciate the fact that it doesn't sear your retinas and make you wish it would spontaneously combust. Aside from the part where burning people's property is a serious crime, you also don't know for a fact that you don't have pyrokinesis, and you need to be careful, just in case. Read more: SEMA Was Full Of Wild Concepts In 2002 As you can see here, you don't get a similarly retro custom interior as it's all just taken from the modern Camaro, and there's an automatic transmission between the 6.2-liter V8 and the rear wheels, neither of which is ideal, but redesigning a dash and center console gets pricey fast, so it's understandable that the builder chose not to open that particular can of worms. Especially since the listing claims getting the build to where it is today already took about 2,000 hours. That also may explain why other similar conversions end up stuck in the uncanny valley. You do get legit Chevelle headrests, though, so that's nice. It also doesn't hurt that the original car was a convertible, so you aren't stuck looking at an obviously modern roofline or the hatchet jobs that are most Dodge Challenger convertible conversions. And while the new headlights appear to be modern LEDs, they were either smart enough to skip daytime running lights altogether or photograph the car with them off. DRLs can look good on cars that were actually designed to have them, but muscle cars from the 60s and 70s weren't, and therefore every single retro conversion or restomod that adds them is a sin against God. You could say the same thing about the builder's decision to start with an automatic, but you and I both know whoever wins this auction probably admitted long ago that their days driving stick were behind them. Annoyingly for me personally, as well as probably many of you, our new CMS doesn't do galleries or images well, so you'll have to head over to the listing if you want to look at more photos. Still, from what you can see here, it still looks far better than the overwhelming majority of these retro conversions, even if it isn't perfect. And while it may have an automatic transmission, it's still a Camaro SS, which means it should drive far better than the overwhelming majority of restomods you could have bought instead. Heck, you may even like the wheels enough to keep them on until winter. You shouldn't, but if you win the auction, I'm certainly not going to stop you. Drive it. Enjoy it. And if you do have a wreck, as long as you're wearing your seatbelt, you should also survive it. And you definitely can't say that about a $250,000 restomod. H/T: CarScoops Want more like this? Holidaymakers' beloved £157k BMW 'wrecked' after leaving it with meet-and-greet firm at Manchester Airport
A couple have told how they landed back at Manchester Airport from a holiday only to find a 'meet and greet' parking firm had allegedly crashed their brand new £157,000 BMW. After alerting police, they found their badly damaged 24-plate BMW XM crashed into a hedge close to the airport on Saturday afternoon after landing on a flight from the Czech Republic. The couple, who the Manchester Evening News has agreed not to name, allege the 'meet and greet' parking firm crashed the hybrid petrol-electric car after they called to summon the vehicle - and that the company didn't apologise and refused to reveal its location. READ MORE: Road blocked after three-vehicle crash with police and fire crews called to scene READ MORE: Massive sandwich shop loved by Man City stars to open new deli in the Northern Quarter Their daughter, who was not with them at the time, told the MEN: "When they landed, they called to say they were ready for their car. But 45 minutes later there was no car and they called again. They said another car had gone into their car and to get a taxi home. They wouldn't give the location. They called the police and the police told them the location." The couple, from Stoke-on-Trent, took a taxi and found their damaged car on Mill Lane near the junction with Castle Mill Lane in the Cheshire village of Ashley, near the airport. Their daughter added: "They were really upset. They really loved that car. When their grandchildren went into it, they had to take their shoes off. The company just didn't care and they didn't even say sorry or that they would drive them home. They only found out where it was from the police." Her father said: "That car means everything to me." The Manchester Evening News called the company, which appears to be called Secure Parking Manchester, on the mobile number provided to the couple, and, after we revealed we were reporting an incident where someone from the firm appeared to have crashed the car, a man said: "I will pass it onto the office. They deal with the complaints' side and they will give you a call back mate." No return call was received. The M.E.N. also sent an email to the address provided to the couple by the firm but there was no response. A spokesperson for Cheshire Police confirmed they were contacted by colleagues at GMP in connection with a BMW crashing into a hedge on Mill Lane at 1.53pm on Saturday February 22. "There were no reports of any injuries, and the vehicle was recovered from the scene," said the spokesperson. A spokesman for GMP said officer responded to a car in a ditch. The driver provided a negative breath test and no arrests were made, said the spokesman. Neither force mentioned a second car being involved in the incident.
