Pittsburgh Steelers Continue Roster Changes with UDFA Cut
Pittsburgh Steelers Continue Roster Changes with UDFA Cut originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to make roster moves early in the offseason. On Thursday, Pittsburgh announced it released defensive end Blake Mangelson via its X account. Mangelson was signed as an UDFA on April 28 and participated in rookie minicamp and the first week of OTAs. Advertisement Before signing with the Steelers this offseason, Mangelson accepted an offer to the Minnesota Vikings' rookie minicamp but canceled when Pittsburgh came calling. The 23-year-old is a monster at 6-5, 279 pounds and played collegiately at BYU. Across four seasons, he posted 82 total tackles with 12 for loss, 2.5 sacks, one interception and four passes defended. His release brings the 90-man roster back down to 90 after wideout Montana Lemonious-Craig signed earlier this week, but Pittsburgh is technically allowed 91 players since Julius Welschof has a roster exemption with the NFL International Pathway Program. The Steelers are expected by some to sign veteran free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers, so they now have a roster spot open for that, but even if Rodgers decides not to sign, the team has stated they'll add another veteran to compete with Mason Rudolph for the starting job. Advertisement It's also possible Pittsburgh re-signs Mangelson at some point this offseason after more cuts or an injury to a defensive lineman necessitates a need. The team typically retains six or seven on the regular-season 53-man roster, and after Mangelson's release, they currently have 12 with mandatory minicamp beginning on June 10. Rumor: Potential lottery pick Egor Demin is 'high' on Bulls' draft board
Rumor: Potential lottery pick Egor Demin is 'high' on Bulls' draft board Egor Demin is drawing interest from several teams ahead of the 2025 NBA draft, with the Chicago Bulls reportedly among those high on the former BYU guard. Demin was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team, averaging 10.6 points, 5.5 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals on 41.2% shooting from the field in 33 games. He finished in double figures 19 times, including a season-high 20 points, seven assists and rebounds on Nov. 8. The 6-foot-9 Russian dazzled as a playmaker, ranking third in the conference in assists after setting the freshman program record with 180. He possesses several skills the Bulls are looking for in a prospect and is high on their radar, according to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. This is more than just smoke. There are flames all around the quick climber from Brigham Young. Demin has seen his stock go from late teens in the first round to the end of the lottery, and now he's kicking down the door to the top 10. The Pelicans at No. 7, the Nets at No. 8 and the Raptors at No. 9 could take Demin and be thrilled about it. Demin became the first five-star recruit to commit to BYU after playing for the Real Madrid youth team over the previous two seasons. He is considered a potential lottery pick, given his skill set, ability as a playmaker and size at the point guard position. The 19-year-old struggled to shoot from 3-point range, converting only 27.3% of his 4.3 attempts per game. However, Demin showed improvement at the combine earlier this month, connecting on 58.4% in total attempts across two 3-point shooting drills. Demin is currently projected to be selected in the 10-20 range, making the Bulls a realistic landing spot for him with the 12th pick. But with three-plus weeks to go until the festivities, draft boards will certainly fluctuate as prospects interview and work out with teams. The draft will take place on June 25-26 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Fruit Juices Can Increase Your Type-2 Diabetes Risk; Here's Why
Fruit juices are a popular choice for breakfast, often hailed as a refreshing and nutritious start to the day. Fruit juices are well-packed with essential nutrients and can offer a quick boost of energy. However, they might be as healthy as you think. Contrary to popular belief, drinking fruit juices is associated with some health hazards. A recent study suggests that this 'healthy drink' may increase the risk of type-2 diabetes. No doubt juices are nutritionally rich, however, they are deprived of fibre. Additionally, they are high in natural sugars. Researchers from Brigham Young University (BYU) and German institutions have examined data from more than 500,000 individuals across different countries. The findings revealed that every additional 230ml serving of fruit juice per day increased the risk of developing type-2 diabetes by 5%. It also stated that sugar-sweetened beverages like soda raised the risk by 25% per 350ml serving. On the other hand, natural sugars consumed via whole fruits and dairy were linked with lower diabetes risk. It was concluded that liquid sugar is the main culprit which can increase diabetes risk. Fruits over juices: Here's why Fruit juices have high sugar content. Even 100% fruit juice is loaded with natural sugars, which can lead to spikes in blood sugar levels. Consuming too much sugar not only increases diabetes risk but also contributes to weight gain which can further increase the risk of several chronic diseases. Additionally, packed fruit juices contain added sugars and preservatives, further diminishing their health benefits. They lack fibre Fibre is an important component of fruits and vegetables. It helps with digestion, keeps you full for longer and promotes a healthy gut. While juicing, most of the fibre is lost, meaning that the satiating effects of the fruit are reduced. This can lead to overeating later in the day. Rapid increase in blood sugar Liquid sugar rushes into the bloodstream quickly, triggering blood sugar spikes. This can trigger diabetes risk by disrupting insulin sensitivity. On the other hand, whole fruits contain fibre, vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients which promote stable blood sugar levels and prevent sudden spikes. Fruit juices can be tasty and convenient, offering some health benefits. However, it's crucial to consume them in moderation and be mindful of their sugar content and lack of fibre. Opt for whole foods for maximum benefits and make them a part of your well-balanced diet.
