She "stood by his side" when Sir Trevor was a player during his illustrious career and then in his role as an ambassador of English football. In an emotional tribute he said: 'I want to thank people for their kind messages and thoughts. 'Hilkka loved coming to West Ham United matches and always wanted the Club to do well.' Joint-Chairman David Sullivan added: 'We are all extremely sad to hear the news of Lady Hilkka's passing. "Hilkka was a hugely popular figure in the Boardroom and throughout the Club, always by Sir Trevor's side and a passionate supporter of West Ham United. "She will be greatly missed by everyone here.' Sir Trevor joined West Ham as a youth player in 1965 before making his senior debut a couple of years later. His illustrious career playing for the Upton Park team saw him make over 600 appearances and scoring more than 100 goals before retiring in 1984. The New Yorker: Spike Lee Talks The Knicks, Sinners, Working With Denzel Washington & More As He Sits Down For The Latest Boardroom Cover Story
Source: Courtesy / Boardroom Today (May 20th) on Boardroom, legendary director and writer Spike Lee sat for the latest Billboard Cover Story. n the exclusive interview, the proud New Yorker and cinephile discusses his relationship with Michael Jordan, his experience working with A24, his love for the New York Knicks, what makes going to the theaters so special, casting A$AP Rocky opposite Denzel Washington in his upcoming movie Highest 2 Lowest , and much more. Continue reading to check out the full conversation! If there's one thing we know, it's that Spike Lee is always tapped in. Like everyone else in the world, the legendary filmmaker was a huge fan of the movie that has taken the world by storm this year, Sinners . Speaking on it, the 69 year-old said, 'I haven't seen a film like this in years. I was jumping up and down, like I'm courtside at the garden and we're kicking the Celtic's ass.' Although show business is oftentimes competitive, Lee made it clear that 2025 is the year of Black cinema. 'This is the year of black cinema! There is such love that Denzel and I have for Ryan Coogler and Michael B Jordan.' said Lee. 'It's love and affirmation where you want people to be the best they can be. There ain't no competition. There's room for everybody to thrive. For you to thrive doesn't mean you're hating on anyone else.' Speaking of Denzel Washington, Spike had high praises for his dear friend and frequent collaborator. As he discussed working with one of the greatest of all-time, he explained, 'There's different levels of greatness. And anytime Denzel is in front of the camera, he is going to put the work in. It's a blessing that Denzel and I got to work together – the dynamic duo! D n' Lee!' The dynamic duo's upcoming film (their fifth together) Highest 2 Lowest is scheduled to be released on August 22nd. Starring opposite of Washington is rapper A$AP Rocky. Spike Lee gave some insight on why he chose the Harlem native for the role. 'Denzel is a beast. When you see a championship fight, you want to see someone who is going to test him. In a movie, if you had two characters go head to head, you gotta cast someone who is gonna hold his ground with Denzel. And ASAP's from Harlem. They go toe to toe.' As one of the biggest New York Knick fans known to man, Spike knows a little about going to to toe. When Rich Kleiman asked him if the the late '60s/early '70s era of the Knicks was his favorite, he gave a heartwarming response. 'Yes. And the late Dick Barnett just passed. I knew all these guys. The late great Willis Reed. I love these guys. Every time I see John Starks I hug him.' The two-time Academy Award winner touched on these and so many other topics in the almost half hour interview. Hollywood veteran opens up about about New York Knicks' legacy (Image Source: Getty) Hollywood veteran and American film director, Spike Lee , who has been a fan of the New York Knicks , since his childhood, believes the team has played beautifully in the last decades, however, he reflects, the team hasn't been able to acquire an NBA championship . He speaks about his memories as a young man, fan of the Knicks, and how it changed his life, while he cheered on the team. Spike Lee shares his memories as a New York Knicks fan Spike Lee was on the Boardroom podcast with Co Founder Rich Kleiman , as they discussed several topics, like the New York Knicks, rapper A$AP Rocky, his legendary film, and Lee's moments of ups and downs, as his career progressed. Spike Lee on the Knicks, Highest 2 Lowest, Denzel, A$AP Rocky, & His Legendary Film Career With a large banner behind the two, that read New York Knicker Rockers, the popular NBA team, Lee said, 'The original banner that is hung from Madison Garden , it's very special to me, because May 8, 1970, I was at game 7 and I was 13 years old, my father, his lawyer, Peter Eckelberry had season tickets during the season, and he made a promise that if the series went to game 7, the Los Angeles Lakers vs New York Knicks he would give me that seat.' Kleiman said, 'I'm pulling down the block there's a championship banner hanging in the Knicks mural exactly as I would have imagined and everything in here is like an artifact and it's mind blowing to see it.' Further, he said, 'I love the Knicks, but I could never love a team or an era for some reason like I love.' Lee interrupts by saying, 'Saint John.' Further, while talking about Mark Johnson, Lee says, 'Why can't he get another job in NBA, It pains me.' Kleiman reacts saying, 'sadly it's a victim of a narrative that just perpetuated.' Lee 'How many years ago was that, it's technically still going on, he laid the foundation i love steve curry, peace and love, you know i love you, but he laid the foundation of that team Further, Lee praises, 'Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green's confidence is what they talk about a lot what he, what he was able to instill in them about like why not us and, and Steph playing the way Steph plays the inflection points Steph's career happened when Mark was coaching him.' Klieman said, 'It's like the story was told and then the story continues to get told and I think with Mark, you know, everyone said he was like this bible thumping preacher and I said to him I was like, bro, is it true like you took Steph to the church to heal his ankles, you know what he said to me? Did his ankles heal?' Lee breaks into laughter. Further in the conversation, Lee points out, 'We haven't won an NBA championship since the 1973 72, 1973 team. That's over 50 years. That's five decades.'
