From 'The Pickup' to 'My Oxford Year,' 10 movies you need to stream right now

The best place to see movies with comedy legends? Your local streaming service. A couple of weeks after Adam Sandler tore up the links with his Netflix "Happy Gilmore" sequel, Eddie Murphy's latest arrives on Amazon – and teams him with another "SNL" alum, Pete Davidson – with "The Pickup." But whether you're into the funny films or scarier stuff, services like HBO Max, Peacock, Hulu and more are delivering films to your favorite devices. Check out a California retro fest with Pedro Pascal and Tom Hanks, a freaky Stephen King tale with double the Theo James, and a new take on a sci-fi classic with Ice Cube. Here are 10 new and notable movies you can stream right now: 'Borderline' In this dark comedy set in the 1990s, a pop star (Samara Weaving) has recently returned home to her mansion when an escaped mental patient (Ray Nicholson) – and superfan – invades her home, hoping to wed his beloved. Charmingly unhinged, Nicholson is likable enough to root a little for the antagonist. Where to watch: Peacock 'Clown in a Cornfield' This clever and comedic slasher reinvention centers on a teen girl (Katie Douglas) who moves to a small Missouri farm town. The place has a dark past, partly because of the local corn syrup factory burning down but also because of a violent clown named Frendo who stalks youngsters. Perfect for horror fiends who want more plot with their gore. Where to watch: Shudder 'Final Destination Bloodlines' The 2000s horror franchise is back after a long hiatus – and maybe better than ever? Kaitlyn Santa Juana plays a college student who learns that her grandmother cheated Death decades ago, and now that jerk is coming to take out her whole family via various creatively gnarly, Rube Goldberg-esque kills. Where to watch: HBO Max 'Freaky Tales' Pedro Pascal is in approximately 57 movies this year, but none are quite like this bizarrely watchable, throwback action B-movie. The "Fantastic Four" star plays an enforcer on a mission of revenge amid intertwining stories set in 1980s Oakland with Nazi-stabbing youngsters, rap battles, a ninja hoopster and a crusty Tom Hanks. Where to watch: HBO Max 'Locked' Usually, Bill Skarsgård is the guy creeping people out. (Pennywise or Nosferatu, anyone?) But he's the one on the receiving end with this thriller. Skarsgård plays a young petty thief who jacks a car. But this souped-up vehicle is actually a trap, and its enigmatic owner (Anthony Hopkins) aims to teach him a lesson. Where to watch: Hulu 'The Monkey' Based on a Stephen King short story, Osgood Perkins' gory and gloriously absurd horror comedy unleashes Theo James as estranged twins trying to rid themselves of a cursed monkey toy that's a harbinger of death. It's an extremely demented, intriguingly insightful tale with themes of mortality and buckets of blood. Where to watch: Hulu 'My Oxford Year' Anna (Sofia Carson) is a New Yorker who fulfills her life's dream of going to Oxford University to study poetry. Things get complicated in the romantic drama, based on the Julia Whelan novel, when she falls hard for her TA, Jamie (Corey Mylchreest), who blows open her world but also comes complete with his own concerns. Where to watch: Netflix 'The Pickup' The constant buddy-comedy banter between Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson does wonders to keep this heist flick watchable. Armored truck driver Russell (Murphy) is nearing retirement and on a cash pickup job with young slacker Travis (Davidson) when the latter gets snookered by a criminal (Keke Palmer) into a high-stakes robbery situation. Where to watch: Prime Video 'War of the Worlds' Those who binge bad movies for fun, rejoice! Ice Cube plays a domestic terror analyst dealing with an alien invasion in this "screenlife" thriller – told through apps, texts, email and video chats – that remakes H.G. Wells' classic sci-fi tale. It basks in cheesy, product-placement ridiculousness, like the fate of the world hinging on an online Amazon purchase. Where to watch: Prime Video 'Wicked' If you didn't see the hit musical and "Wizard of Oz" prequel in theaters, on demand or on Peacock, maybe it's time to check it out on Amazon. Or simply to revisit the fantasy featuring Oscar nominees Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as pals Elphaba and Glinda before the highly anticipated sequel "Wicked: For Good" arrives in November. Styled By Niamh: Naoimh Whelton on starring alongside Hollywood royalty in new blockbuster

Before she'd reached the age of ten, actress Naoimh Whelton was already something of a celebrity in her hometown. Growing up in the picturesque village of Kenmare in Co Kerry, Naoimh – now a rising Hollywood star – was gigging around the village alongside her music dad and uncle. 'From the age of about five or six I used to go with my dad and sing in the pubs around the town,' Naoimh told Styled. Now she is poised to grace the silver screen starring alongside Hollywood heavyweight Paul Rudd in Oscar-winning director John Carney's latest flick Power Ballad. 'My dad is a violinist and an accordion player, and I used to do an Irish dance, and I learned all the songs and I would sing along with my dad,' recalled Naoimh. This first taste of local fame was what led a young Naomi to pursue a career on stage and screen. 'So even as far back as then I got a taste and I had the 'gra'; I was like 'I love this'. 'We were doing three gigs a night.' Oui scuba jacket – €180 Macbees Boutique So no sooner had Naoimh finished her Leaving Cert than she was packing her bags and heading for the bright lights of Dublin and beyond. 'I was busting through those doors after my Leaving Cert,' she laughed. 'All of my classmates were off to Cork, to UCC, that was the cool college to go to at that time, but I was like 'no, I'm going to Dublin to be an actress'. 'I just needed to get out of there and I just moved straight away. I did some research and I found a course in the arts in Dublin so I was like 'right, that's where I'm going.' 'So I got a place in the Gaiety School of Acting.' But moving from a small town to the Big Smoke was by no means smooth sailing, as Naoimh recalls trekking to endless auditions in between college and her part-time job. 'You would get bit parts or tiny roles but they kept me going. So after a while I went to Bowe Street full time. P Joseph Ribkoff Polka Dot Pants- €249 sale: €125. Macbees Boutique 'I was there for two years and I absolutely adored that whole experience. It was during that time that I really fell in love with the craft of acting.' From Dublin Naoimh then decamped to London, where she finally began to slowly but surely break into the acting scene. 'After Dublin I moved to London and it was around that time that I got a role in Harry Wilde and then I got a part as a journalist in the series Borderline. 'That was my biggest part when I played Mary Farrell, a journalist in Borderline.' But her really big break was just around the corner when she was cast in the upcoming John Carney flick Power Ballad alongside Hollywood stars Paul Rudd, and Nick Jonas (of Jonas Brothers fame). Speaking of her part alongside Rudd, Naoimh said it was surreal. Carney, who directed the 2007 film Once – which won an Oscar for Best Original Song with Falling Slowly – and Sing Street, Whelton said the role came just at the right time. 'I had just returned from three months of travelling through Southeast Asia, so I was more than ready to get back working the creative muscle again and this project came at the perfect time' Naoimh has one pivotal scene in the film, in which she hopes her acting prowess will come to life on the big screen. 'My scene partner Marty Breen was an absolute blast to work with. We laughed a lot, and the whole shoot was honestly up there with one of the most fun ones I've been on. 'Our scene comes at a key turning point in the story. It was wonderful to be a part of.' 'Paul was really nice. And so that was really fun, just doing that. It was just one day on set, but it was that one day that kept me going, it gave me the buzz I needed.' Written by Carney and Peter McDonald, the film charts the story of a wedding singer (Rudd), a rock star (Nick Jonas), and the song that comes between them. Yellow Dress: Malina Calista Yellow Strappy Dress €100 – Macbees Boutique 'Paul was such a grounded, generous presence on set. He brings this quiet ease to his work that's honestly inspiring to witness up close. 'You don't feel like you're standing next to a 'movie star' – and I mean that in the best possible way.' The pair even had time between shoots for some chats about Ireland, with Paul revealing he's a fan of all things Irish – especially pints of stout. 'He loves Cobh [in Co Cork], but I had to tell him he still hadn't seen Kerry yet. We had a good laugh about that.' While she may have been enthralled with Paul Rudd's enigmatic presence she is hopelessly devoted to her real-life love. Hermes Mors a Jouets Chemise Twilly – Naoimh is smitten with her childhood sweetheart Josh, who she has been dating since they met in secondary school. 'So I am with Josh now over eleven years. We met when I was about 15,' she smiles. Josh, who's not involved in the entertainment industry, has moved to London with Naoimh as she follows her dreams. 'We live in London now and it can be tougher on him at times. But we are finding our feet. We've been together for years now and we are in lockstep with each other.' As for her acting career, the actress – who has also appeared with Jayne Seymour in detective series Harry Wild – said she hopes her years of hard work are finally coming to fruition. Boohoo Black Blazer – €33.50 'I believe hard work always pays off, but for me, the real goal is to be doing this full-time – to be a consistently working actor,' Whelton said. 'Until that becomes your everyday reality, it's important to embrace the journey: all the in-between moments, the quiet periods, the lessons you pick up from each job, your own life experiences. Sit with it all. Reflect on it. Try not to be so urgent. 'That time is valuable – it shapes who you are as an artist and adds depth to your work. An acting instructor once told me: 'We are human beings not human doings, so just be.' I think of that often, and any time I feel I'm getting ahead of myself in any part of my life. Presence is key and something that takes consistent work, for me anyway,' she said. She admits the idea of a 'big break' is tempting, but added: 'I try not to focus on that. 'For me, success looks like being in a creative space every day, collaborating, learning, and feeling a strong sense of purpose in what I do. That's the goal.' Naoimh's role alongside Rudd has given her confidence a reboot. 'Like everyone I have huge insecurities, I have doubts, but I know who I am, I don't wait for a situation to happen, I kind of try to make it happen. I have drive , I'm tenacious and I know where I am going, so I try to make the best out of every situation.' But she credits her parents with instilling her with self-belief and the ability to dust herself off and begin anew. Casual 3/4 Sleeve Knit Cardigan – Green – €19.98 – Shaws Department Store 'My mum instilled so much confidence in us ever since we were kids. She helped me , every time I would come she would help me build my confidence and develop other life skills. 'She taught me to dust myself off and get back out there if you've had a knock.' From 'Final Destination' to 'Happy Gilmore 2,' 10 movies you need to stream right now

The only thing that's more inevitable than death in a "Final Destination" movie is an ever-growing list of must-see movies hitting your favorite streaming services. Embrace the air conditioning this first weekend of August and tuck into "Final Destination Bloodlines." That's new to HBO Max, and other services including Netflix, Peacock and Hulu have theatrical releases coming home, like an Anthony Hopkins/Bill Skarsgård thriller. Don't sleep on the original fare, either, like Netflix queen Sofia Carson's new romantic comedy. And there's a certain witchy Oscar-nominated musical that's switching services again to satisfy another subscriber base. Here are 10 new and notable movies you can stream right now: 'The Assessment' In a futuristic landscape wrecked by climate change, people have to get government permission to procreate to save resources. Elizabeth Olsen and Himesh Patel play a scientific couple wanting a little one, and Alicia Vikander is the assessor sent to test them in extreme ways in the outrageously funny and extraordinarily bleak sci-fi thriller. Where to watch: Hulu 'Borderline' In this dark comedy set in the 1990s, a pop star (Samara Weaving) has recently returned home to her mansion when an escaped mental patient (Ray Nicholson) – and superfan – invades her home, hoping to wed his beloved. Charmingly unhinged, Nicholson is likable enough to root a little for the antagonist. Where to watch: Peacock 'Death of a Unicorn' In the trippily bonkers thriller, a widowed attorney (Paul Rudd) takes his estranged daughter (Jenna Ortega) on a work trip to a Rockies nature preserve for familial reconnection. That goes sideways when they hit a baby unicorn and the dad's pharmaceutical employers aim to use its blood for profit. Then the foal's parents show up and things get really gory. Where to watch: HBO Max 'Final Destination Bloodlines' The 2000s horror franchise is back after a long hiatus – and maybe better than ever? Kaitlyn Santa Juana plays a college student who learns that her grandmother cheated Death decades ago, and now that jerk is coming to take out her whole family via various creatively gnarly, Rube Goldberg-esque kills. Where to watch: HBO Max 'Happy Gilmore 2' This is the "Cannonball Run" of golf comedy sequels. The plot is a familiar one: Brash golfer Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) hits the links to raise enough money to send his daughter to ballet school. Come for the silliness, stay for the endless cameos, from women's hoopsters and pro wrestlers to musicians, gridiron stars and Sandler's old pals. Where to watch: Netflix 'Locked' Usually, Bill Skarsgård is the guy creeping people out. Where to watch: Netflix 'The Phoenician Scheme' Wes Anderson's comedy stars Benicio del Toro as a famed arms dealer who, after one assassination attempt too many, makes his estranged nun daughter (Mia Threapleton) his sole heir. Absurd shenanigans are afoot, though the real joy is watching a delightful del Toro and refreshing Threapleton navigating an oddly heartfelt family reconnection. Where to watch: Peacock 'Until Dawn' The "Until Dawn" video game is a freaky good time. The movie adaptation veers wildly from it, and not for the better. Clover (Ella Rubin) takes her friends along on a doomed trip to find her missing sister, and they wind up in a time loop where they have to stay alive till dawn to make it to tomorrow. It's a horror flick with a few cool moments but a ton more clichés. Where to watch: Netflix 'Wicked' If you didn't see the hit musical and "Wizard of Oz" prequel in theaters, on demand or on Peacock, maybe it's time to check it out on Amazon. Or simply to revisit the fantasy featuring Oscar nominees Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as pals Elphaba and Glinda before the highly anticipated sequel "Wicked: For Good" arrives in November. One of the most entertaining thriller movies of 2025 just landed on Peacock — and it's a darkly comedic watch

'Borderline' is perhaps one of the most unhinged movies I've seen in recent years. This comedy-thriller hit theaters (in limited release) and streaming simultaneously back in March. While I'm glad it had a chance on the big screen, I don't think it received the marketing it deserved. Once 'Borderline' dropped, there wasn't much conversation about it online, which is a real shame. I had no clear expectations going into it. The story sounded pretty straightforward, and really, my main draw was seeing Samara Weaving and Ray Nicholson go head-to-head in such a crazy setup. But by the time the credits rolled, I was absolutely stunned. This genre-bending flick takes a wild concept and just runs with it. I'm hoping its new streaming home on Peacock brings it the attention it deserves. If you like chaotic thrillers or enjoyed 'Cocaine Bear' (which, fun fact, shares the same writer, Jimmy Warden), you'll likely find something to love here. But I have to warn you: things do get pretty outrageous. So, here's why 'Borderline' is worth adding to your watchlist now that it's landed on Peacock. 'Borderline' takes place in 1990s Los Angeles and centers on Sofia Minor (Samara Weaving), a glamorous pop superstar living under the constant protection of her loyal bodyguard, Bell (Eric Dane). One night, Bell faces a terrifying encounter with Paul Duerson (Ray Nicholson), an obsessive fan. The encounter leaves Bell gravely wounded, and though he recovers, the trauma lingers. He urges Sofia to be careful, especially as she explores a new relationship with her boyfriend, Rhodes (Jimmie Fails). Peacock is the streaming home for hit originals like "The Traitors," "Poker Face" and "Love Island USA," plus live sports, next-day NBC shows, and a massive library of movies, from recent releases to classics. Meanwhile, Paul escapes from a mental institution, teaming up with Penny (Alba Baptista), a partner who shares his unhinged mindset. Together, they invade Sofia's home with a disturbing mission. Believing Sofia is destined to be his wife, Paul converts her house into a twisted wedding chapel. 'Borderline' asks a pretty chilling question: What happens when a fan takes things way too far? For one pop star, the answer is more horrifying than she ever could've imagined. And while that premise sounds intense, make no mistake, because this thriller isn't afraid to lean into comedy. I know the idea of a comedy-thriller might sound a little contradictory. Thrillers are meant to keep you on edge, while comedies are usually there to break the tension. But somehow, 'Borderline' finds a way to merge the two without losing control of its wild concept. This genre-bending madness works because of Nicholson's dedication to playing a charming but complete psychopath. Still, there's something unsettling about him — this odd mix of charm and childlike confidence that somehow makes his delusions bizarrely funny. There's a scene where Sofia's locked inside her recording booth, and Paul's just outside the glass, casually going on about their wedding like it's the most ordinary thing in the world. It's just as wild as it sounds, and Nicholson and Weaving have great chemistry (even though their characters aren't really supposed to). Above all, 'Borderline' just goes all in. You can tell Warden leaned fully into the chaos when writing the script. If you are someone who searches for a movie's Rotten Tomatoes score before watching, though, you might be surprised to see that 'Borderline' unfortunately has the green splat. From 45 reviews, it has a pretty average rating of 58%, which I don't personally agree with. The audience score is slightly more generous at 61%, but not by much. The site's critics consensus reads: 'Elevated by Samara Weaving and Ray Nicholson's performances to a point, this fun-enough romp eventually finds itself on the Borderline.' I do believe that 'Borderline' is underrated, and that it only appeals to those who don't mind the genre-hopping narrative. While it's not the most memorable movie ever, it's an absolute blast, and I would recommend watching just for Nicholson alone. 'Borderline' is a total adrenaline rush, to say the least. By the time the wedding scene hits near the end, I was genuinely laughing out loud because it's wild in the best way. I won't spoil anything here, as it's one of those moments that's best experienced with minimal knowledge. But just be prepared going into this comedy-thriller. Packed with sharp laughs and two standout performances, 'Borderline' is a wildly entertaining ride. It might get a little messy and overstuffed at times, but thanks to its strong cast and snappy script, it still manages to keep things fun from start to finish. You can stream 'Borderline' on Peacock now.
