Eight Pakistan paramilitary troops, seven militants killed in separate engagements
QUETTA: At least eight Pakistani paramilitary troops and seven militants were killed in separate clashes in the country's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and southwestern Balochistan provinces, officials said on Monday. A high-value Daesh militant, who was under custody for the kidnapping and murder of a young boy, was killed during a police 'encounter' with his accomplices, who attempted to free him while he was being taken for the identification of a Daesh hideout in Balochistan's Mastung district, according to a CTD statement. The suspect's accomplices present inside opened heavy fire on the CTD team, resulting in a fierce exchange that resulted in the killing of the suspect, Hasham, by 'his group's fire,' while two militants were also neutralized on the spot, the CTD said. The claim could not be independently verified. 'All three killed suspects were linked to Daesh (ISKP) and were planning future acts of terror. The group was also involved in targeted killings and extortion networks, using child abductions to fund militant operations,' the CTD said in a statement. Muhammad Musawir Khan Kakar, a third-grade student, was kidnapped from a school van by unidentified armed men while on his way to school in Quetta on Nov. 15, 2024, according to his family and police. His body was found in Mastung's Dasht area on June 23. Separately, eight Pakistani paramilitary troops and four militants were killed in a clash in KP's Orakzai district that borders Afghanistan, AFP news agency reported, citing local officials. 'Armed terrorists attacked a Frontier Corps (FC) convoy with heavy weapons... The fighting continued for several hours,' the news agency quoted a senior local security official as saying. 'Eight FC personnel were killed, and 11 were injured.' Three injured soldiers are in critical condition, while the clash also killed four militants, he added. Pakistan is currently battling twin insurgencies: one led my religiously motivated groups, including the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), mainly in its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and the other by ethno-nationalist Baloch separatist groups, Daesh and other smaller groups in Balochistan. In recent months, Islamabad has frequently accused India of backing militant groups and Afghanistan of allowing the use of its soil for attacks against Pakistan. Nine militants killed, eight arrested in Malakand: ISPR
RAWALPINDI: The army said Sunday evening that a joint intelligence based operation was conducted by the security forces along with police, Levies, CTD and District Administration in Malakand District, on reported presence of 'khwarij belonging to Indian proxy, Fitna al Khwarij.' During the conduct of operation, spread over four days, own forces skillfully surrounded & effectively engaged the khwarij location, and after intense multiple fire exchanges, nine Indian sponsored khwarij were sent to hell, while eight khwarij were apprehended,' the ISPR said. CTD identifies notorious suicide bomber
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and intelligence agencies have identified one of the two terrorists killed during a joint operation in Mochko on July 17 as Tahir Shah, son of Tajammul Shah. According to CTD officials, the deceased militant was involved in multiple terrorist activities in Karachi and was an expert in preparing suicide jackets and explosives. To conceal his identity, he had been using the ID card of a deceased Afghan-based terrorist, Kashif, son of Bakht Rawaan, who was reportedly killed and buried in Afghanistan.

One suspect involved in killing of couple arrested, says Balochistan CM
One suspect involved in killing of a couple has been arrested, while other suspects seen in a viral video have been identified, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said on Sunday. The development has come after a video of killing of a woman has gone viral on social media, triggering immense criticism from the masses. The couple has reportedly been killed over marrying by choice and without taking consent from their parents. Taking notice of the disturbing video of killing, the chief minister has ordered police to initiate an immediate investigation into the incident. In a statement on X, he confirmed that preliminary findings indicated the incident occurred a few days before Eid ul Adha. 'The individuals shown in the video have been identified, and authorities have registered a terrorism case on behalf of the state,' he said. 'One of the suspects involved in the murder of a young woman has already been apprehended,' he said. Bugti vowed that the law would take its course in this gruesome case, assuring the public that justice would be served. Meanwhile, addressing a press conference in Karachi, Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind said the case was lodged on behalf of the state because no family member of the victims had reported the incident to police. Rind said initial investigation revealed that the incident took place in Margat area of Washuk district and teams of police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) have started investigating the felony in the area. 'Videos and pictures have been shared with the NADRA and pictures of the vehicles have been sent to the excise department to ascertain the culprits' identities,' he said. The chief minister has directed police not to take any pressure in this case, he maintained. 'Gender-based terrorism' Condemning the brutal murder, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed grief and outrage over the incident. The PPP chairman said that those involved in this heinous murder are nothing less than beasts and deserve no mercy, the Media Cell Bilawal House reported. Bilawal expressed hope that the perpetrators would be swiftly brought to justice. Highlighting the severity of the crime, he stressed that this is a clear act of gender-based terrorism and should serve as a test case for the Balochistan government. He said that Islam grants women the right to marry by choice, and the Constitution of Pakistan upholds and guarantees this right. He emphasised that his party has a clear manifesto of zero tolerance for violence and discrimination against women.

5 TTP terrorists killed in northwest Pakistan
Agency: PTI Peshawar, Jul 19 (PTI) At least five terrorists of the outlawed TTP were killed and two injured in an operation carried out by security forces in Pakistan's restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, according to the police. Eight terrorists were captured alive in the operation conducted by police and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Malakand district. Assistant Commissioner Tehsil Dargai Waheedullah Khan told the media that the operation was conducted in the Mehrday area of Malakand. 'Police and CTD took part in the successful operation," Khan said. 'Five terrorists were eliminated and two were injured while eight were captured alive." Khan said that the terrorists belonged to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and were behind attacks in the region. He added that the arrested terrorists were transported to the CTD Centre, while the injured were moved to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Dargai. Earlier today, nine terrorists were killed and three security officers were injured in an exchange of fire during an operation in the province's Hangu district, police said. Pakistan ranked second in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with the number of deaths in terrorist attacks rising by 45 per cent over the past year to 1,081. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has seen an increasing trend of terrorism-related incidents.
