In an interview in August 2024 on the podcast Let's Be Clear with Shannen Doherty after the star's death, the Jawbreaker actress admitted one of her biggest regrets was not becoming close with Doherty earlier in life. 'If I have any regrets, I wish I could have gotten to know her sooner,' McGowan said of her friend. 'I don't know how it would have happened, but I wish we could have.' McGowan said the media often tried to pit the two against each other, but neither took the bait. The Sound actress called her pal, 'the bravest, bravest champion I've known.' The Buffy the Vampire star who bonded with Doherty on the CW lot, posted a broken heart emoji to express her sorrow. 'How do you possibly find the right words to sum up 30 years of friendship?' the Cruel Intentions star wrote on social media a few days after Doherty's death. McGowan also shared a snap of Doherty hugging her Charmed sister Holly Marie Combs with a message of love and peace 'I keep reminding myself it only hurts this much because, there was so much love.' Gellar's fans also shared their memories of Doherty. 'We lost one of the best. She took her time with people and fans.
