Brolin finds a cure for streaming fatigue in 'Weapons'
Josh Brolin says his latest project, Weapons, is a refreshing change from what he describes as repetitive, uninspired content dominating streaming platforms. Speaking to Collider, the Oscar-nominated actor said he was drawn to the horror mystery directed by Zach Cregger because it defies genre conventions. "Right now, with so much content, you're just watching things on whatever streaming service you're on, and you're just going, 'Why is this so boring, man? Why?'" Brolin said. "It's all the same," he continued. "And then somebody not only takes the horror genre, but then messes with it and does something on the edge of absurdity — sort of humorous — so it's keeping you off balance enough for it to have an emotional impact." Weapons, which co-stars Julia Garner, follows a small community thrown into chaos when all but one child from the same class vanish on the same night at exactly the same time. The mystery forces the town to confront what — or who — is behind the disappearances. The film opened to strong box office results, earning $42.5 million in its first weekend — more than $10 million above industry projections — and has received positive reviews from both critics and audiences. Cregger, whose 2022 film Barbarian was widely praised, told The Hollywood Reporter that horror remains one of the few genres still allowing large-scale creative risks. "Without horror, you go to the theatre and you get people in tights for $200 million, and there's not a lot of room for risk in those movies," he said. "I dearly wish that we could have cool, edgy weird comedies back in theatres. Or dramatic fare for adults. I feel like there's not a lot of movies for grown-ups anymore."

'Star Trek' Star Calls Quentin Tarantino's Idea for the Franchise 'Crazy'
'Star Trek' Star Calls Quentin Tarantino's Idea for the Franchise 'Crazy' originally appeared on Parade. Simon Pegg, who played Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in'sStar Trekfilm franchise, is addressing famed director, 's proposed plan for an unmade Star Trek project. Collider reported that Pegg commented on Tarantino's Star Trek script during the August 2025 Fan Expo in Boston. Pegg stated that while he didn't get the chance to look at Tarantino's script, Abrams, and Star Trek producer, Lindsey Weber, filled him in. According to Pegg, Tarantino's fans wouldn't be surprised by his alleged vision for Star Trek. 'That was what we call in the business bats--t crazy. It was everything you would expect a Quentin Tarantino Star Trek script to be," said Pegg during the Fan Expo panel. Pegg also suggested he believed Star Trek fans wouldn't have loved the unmade Tarantino project. 'I think it would have been such an incredible sort of curio to see Star Trek through his lens. I don't know how it would have gone over with the fans, but it certainly would have been an interesting thing," said Pegg to the Fan Expo audience. According to Collider, reports of a Tarantino Star Trek project began circulating in 2017. Tarantino hinted at the possibility of him working on a Star Trek project in a 2019 interview on CinemaBlend's ReelBlend podcast. He noted that he has long said he would only make 10 movies in his career before retiring. Tarantino's latest and ninth film was the 2019 movie, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood. While recording the ReelBlend podcast episode, he said he could have "a loophole" to take on directing more films if it wasn't his original idea, like Star Trek. "I guess I do have a loophole, [if] the idea was to throw a loophole into it. Which would be [to go], 'Uhhh, I guess Star Trek doesn't count. I can do Star Trek … but naturally I would end on an original,'" said the director. "But the idea of doing 10 isn't to come up with a loophole. I actually think, if I was going to do Star Trek, I should commit to it. It's my last movie. There should be nothing left handed about it. I don't know if I'm going to do that, but that might happen." Tarantino gave an update about his proposed Star Trek project in an August 2024 interview on the Club Random with Bill Maher podcast. "It's never going to happen," said Tarantino during the podcast interview. He also said reports have been inaccurate about his proposed Star Trek script. "There's been so much misinformation about what it was going to be. Nothing but misinformation," said Tarantino. Happy Valley star teases 'brutal' period drama 'nobody has done before' streaming this month
He will be joined by one of the stars of Game of Thrones in the historical epic One of the stars of hit series Happy Valley has teased a 'brutal' upcoming period drama that 'nobody has done before' ahead of its debut later this month. King & Conqueror is expected to land on BBC iPlayer sometime in August. The new series will see Grantchester and Playing Nice actor James Norton take on the role of King Harold Godwinson. Joining him is Games of Thrones alum Nikolaj Coster-Waldau playing his adversary William of Normandy. Norton has already been talking up the project and it seems that audiences will get to see something relatively unique. According to the new drama's official synopsis, King & Conqueror is the story of a clash that defined the future of a country and a continent for a thousand years. The roots of which stretch back decades and extend out through a pair of interconnected family dynasties, struggling for power across two countries and a raging sea. Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy were two men destined to meet at the Battle of Hastings in 1066; two allies with no design on the English throne, who found themselves forced by circumstance and personal obsession into a war for possession of its crown. It's a project that has apparently been years in the making. The story, was something that Norton admits he wasn't originally completely aware of. Speaking to The Guardian he said: "I wasn't aware of the relationship Harold and William had before the battle, that they were friends and allies for many years before they realised that, because of the way Europe was being carved up, they would both inevitably end up on a battlefield – and one of them would have to die. It's mad to think nobody has really done it before. And that's one of the reasons we spent so long developing it." Norton also spoke to publication Collider about the making of the show and how it is one of the first titles he is producing himself. He also went on to allay fears of some viewers that the show may take liberties with historical accuracy, as getting it right matters to him. He explained: "We shot in Iceland. It's a wonderful cast. A beautiful group of actors, a really lovely ensemble. Bálint Szentgyörgyi is at the helm, and it's a deep dive into the history. An incredible amount of it is true, so we haven't had to veer really far off the actual truth and the drama and the sort of soap opera aspect to it. It is just incredible." Continuing, he added: "It's the third project we've actually produced. We've made a movie called Rogue Agent, and we've had a TV show called Playing terms of the reason why it's kind of come to fruition quickly is partly because I find it fascinating, and it's such an integral part of English history. In England, it's the first date we learn — 1066, Battle of Hastings. "No one really knows much more about it than that, but it's one of the first things we learned so everyone has a relationship with it, including me. What's continued to propel us forward is the characters. "It's this incredible gallery of really interesting characters, all real people from history. So, I'm not a history nut, but I've become more and more engaged with it."
