Cam's 'All Things Light' is one of the best albums of the year. Here's why.
Cam's name isn't as instantly recognizable as the Nashville artists selling out stadiums and dumping a trove of singles on the charts. But the singer-songwriter who has worked with Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus and Jack Antonoff and written five songs for Beyoncé's Grammy Award-winning epic 'Cowboy Carter,' has delivered many an emotive song of her own during her decade-plus career. Her 2015 hit, 'Burning House,' ignited to the Top 5 of Billboard's country chart and was certified triple platinum, while a 2019 collaboration with Diplo, 'So Long,' dented the dance chart. Cam's latest album, 'All Things Light,' (out now) is efficient, profound and one of the most quietly formidable of the year. Cam, born Camaron Ochs, began writing songs for the album after she became a mother during the isolating early months of the pandemic. Her college years traveling through Nepal and Egypt and working as a psychology researcher at Stanford and the University of California, Berkeley, helped steer her toward meditation, which she relied on during that insulating period of parenting. The dozen songs on 'All Things Light' reflect her thoughtfulness and her desire to impart wisdom to her daughter, Lucy (whose name is derived from the Latin word for 'light'). She accomplishes her goal through a genre-defying amalgamation of country, Americana, pop and soul. The album's first single, 'Alchemy,' is an ideal platform for her crystalline voice and penchant for lush harmonies, while 'Slow Down' takes listeners on a 97-second stroll of strumming folk guitar and cheery whistling akin to vintage Loretta Lynn. Cam, 40, inhabits a space similar to Brandi Carlile, her appealing songs making their point in a pure, expressive voice. Here are a few of the best tracks on 'All Things Light.' More: Dave Stewart was playing Dylan songs as a teen. Now he's made an album of them 'Just for You' Cam is masterful at conveying deep feelings in few words. Another of her under-two-minutes songs says all it needs to under a blanket of glorious harmonizing that blends '60s-era girl group sensibilities with soul. 'If you want someone's shoulder, I've got two,' she offers in her honeyed voice, a simple proclamation that lands hard. 'Nevermine' Songs about loves that just weren't meant to be aren't exactly original territory. But when Cam sings, ' I feel stupid/I feel bruised/I feel out of line/You were never mine to lose' under a canopy of bowed electric guitars trembling and melancholy piano plinking, she infuses a familiar sentiment with a dash of peaceful resignation. 'We Always Do' Cam ends her album on a hopeful note. She promises faithfulness ('When you look in the mirror and see someone new/I will be here to remind you of you') and shares her vulnerability ('You let me storm off to avoid the monsoon/you know I can't sleep in the other room') with equal sincerity. Over chords from a Rhodes piano, gentle strings and a beat that sprints and slackens, Cam allows the song to trail off in a swirl of sound with a final message: 'You gotta try.'

Beyonce fan left in tears after being 'dehumanized' at Cowboy Carter concert for horrific reason
A visually impaired Beyonce fan was left in tears after she was treated in a 'dehumanizing' way at a recent Cowboy Carter show. Esther Obigbesan revealed she was asked to give up her cane to access the VIP area at one of the singer's performances in London last month, despite having flagged her access needs to staff days beforehand. Ahead of the June 10 show at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Esther – who spent over $650 dollars on her VIP standing ticket - claimed that she had reached out to the providers of the VIP package to make them aware of her needs but never got a response. On the day of the event, she was initially helped into the VIP check-in point and was handed her wristband and merch but was then stopped by security as she tried to access the pit. Speaking to BBC Radio London 's Eddie Nestor, she said: 'They just automatically started talking to the ladies that were with me being like, 'she can't go down there, she can't go down there.'' Although Esther claimed she explained to staff that her cane was a visual aid, she alleged that she was told that they were not permitted in the standing sections of the venue. In the end, she was forced to hand over her cane so that she could enter the area. 'It was more my confidence and my independence… it felt dehumanizing,' she said. Esther was met with further humiliation when she asked a security guard to help her locate the bathrooms. 'When I came out, they'd contacted the safety officer who was trying to relocate me,' she continued. 'They were saying it's not safe for me down there because people won't know I'm visually impaired – I said I could have my cane back.' Esther was then moved to a seated area two levels above where she had originally been placed. 'It's a three-hour show but I barely remember any of it because I was crying so much,' she told the radio show. A Tottenham Hotspur spokesperson apologized for the incident and refunded her ticket. According to the BBC, they also said the experience 'fell far short' of its standards. Many were outraged by Esther's story and voiced their support for her and fellow concertgoers with additional needs. View this post on Instagram A post shared by BBC London (@bbclondon) 'It was more my confidence and my independence… it felt dehumanizing,' Esther said of her treatment at the Beyoncé show 'How does this happen in 2025 when we're supposed to all know better when it comes to disability?' said one. 'This is outrageous.' 'What a terrible experience for this young woman,' another commented. 'That's an outrageous price for a ticket and to be tested with such disrespect is disheartening.' Echoing a similar sentiment, a third agreed and said: 'Awful disability discrimination. You can hear the pain in her voice.' Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a 62,000-capacity venue, hosted all of Beyoncé shows on the British leg of her tour. The tour, officially titled Cowboy Carter and the Rodeo Chitlin' Circuit Tour is in support of her album, Cowboy Carter. The all-stadium tour, featuring 32 stadium shows in the U.S. and Europe, began on April 28 in California, and is scheduled to conclude on July 26 in Nevada.

Jay-Z and Beyoncé secure $57 million mortgage on Bel Air property amid tour and real estate moves
Jay-Z and Beyoncé have reportedly taken out a new $57.75 million mortgage on their Bel Air mansion, adding to the significant borrowing already tied to the property. Originally purchased in 2017 for $88 million, the luxury home has become a focal point in the couple's real estate portfolio. According to recent reports, the new mortgage increases their total loan amount on the property to $110 million. This latest loan is structured as a 30-year agreement, with an initial interest rate of 5% for the first decade. Monthly payments on this new loan are estimated to be around $310,000. This follows a previous loan taken out in 2021, where the couple secured $52.8 million at a 3.15% rate through Goldman Sachs, resulting in monthly payments of approximately $226,901. The Bel Air estate features 11 bedrooms, four pools, a wellness centre, a spa, a media room and other amenities across six interconnected structures designed by Dean McKillen. Property taxes alone are estimated to be around $100,343 per month. This development coincides with the final dates of Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter world tour, which began in April and is scheduled to conclude in Las Vegas on July 26 and 27. The tour has visited several major cities, including Chicago, London, and Los Angeles. Though the reason for the refinancing remains undisclosed, it comes as the couple continues to maintain multiple high-value properties, including a $200 million California estate acquired in 2023.
