Lotus Emira range expands with new V6 SE flagship and entry-level Turbo
Lotus added a new flagship to its Emira range this week. The Emira V6 SE hits the tarmac with a 298kW 3.5 l supercharged V6 engine, paired to a six-speed manual transmission (an automatic is available as an option) and a limited-slip differential. Performance is brisk with Lotus claiming a 0—100km/h sprint time of 4.3 seconds. To sharpen the car's driving dynamics, the Hethel-based marque has fitted a new compression mount for the manual gearbox (for more precise gear changes), optimised damper calibration and made subtle adjustments to wheel alignment. The result, says Lotus, is improved handling and enhanced ride comfort. Drivers can switch between two preset suspension modes: Tour for daily use and Sport for spirited street or track driving. Finished in Zinc Grey paint as standard, the Emira V6 SE is visually distinguished by model-specific badging, an extended Black Pack, 20" forged alloy wheels, red brake calipers and a cabin trimmed in Alcantara with sporty pedals. Customisation options include 15 exterior colours, seven interior themes, four brake caliper finishes and eight additional wheel designs. Go wild. Prices in the UK start at £96,500 (R2.32m). Slotting in beneath the 298kW Emira Turbo SE, the new entry-level Emira Turbo model sports a detuned version of the Mercedes-AMG sourced 2.0 l four-cylinder twin-scroll turbo engine. Paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), it delivers 268kW to the rear wheels and sprints from 0—100km/h in a claimed 4.4 seconds. The Emira Turbo comes well equipped, with Tour/Sport suspension modes, 12-way electrically adjustable seats, a 190W audio system and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It's marked out by exclusive Turbo badging, yellow and black Lotus emblems and satin silver detailing. UK pricing starts at £79,500 (R1.91m). Across the Emira range, Lotus has rolled out several upgrades aimed at enhancing track-day fun and everyday comfort. These include: an improved engine cooling system; recalibrated air conditioning for better performance in hot climates; and a revised DCT gearbox map for faster, smoother shifts. The Turbo SE and V6 SE can be optioned with the Racing Line package, which adds extra visual flair. Exterior highlights include a contrasting lower pinstripe in yellow, red or silver (matched to the brake calipers), colour-accented mirror caps and bespoke Racing Line badges. High-gloss black wheels and a two-tone black and silver Lotus logo complete the look.

Lotus has tweaked the Emira and added a new ‘V6 SE' top-spec model
Lotus has tweaked the Emira and added a new 'V6 SE' top-spec model And if you don't fancy spending £96.5k, there's now a cheaper, less powerful entry-level called the 'Turbo' Skip 16 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 16 Lotus has rejigged its Emira lineup for what feels like the 63rd time this year, adding a new range-topping 'V6 SE' and entry-level 'Turbo'. It means the pre-existing Turbo SE now shifts into the middle ground. Of course. As the name suggests, the V6 SE will continue to use Toyota's 3.5-litre supercharged, er, V6. Rated at 400bhp and 310lb ft of torque, it's good for 0-62mph in 4.3s. To help you do just that, the six-speed manual 'box gains a new compression mount for slicker shifts. Aside from the model-specific badging, the V6 will get 20in forged alloys, red brake calipers and a 'Zing Grey' paint finish as standard. You'll also get the option of Lotus' new 'Racing Line' accents, which add a subtle pinstripe to the exterior and colour-matched mirror caps. Moving on to the Turbo, it'll pinch the same twin-scroll 2.0-litre four-pot as the Turbo SE, albeit detuned to 360bhp and 317lb ft. Still, it's just one-tenth off the V6's 0-62mph time, and tops out at a still respectable 171mph (compared to the V6's 180mph). The kit list is healthy too: 10in infotainment screen, 190-watt audio system and 12-way adjustable seats as standard. Plus, a safety suite with technologies like Traffic Sign Recognition, Blind Spot Warning and Fatigue Detection. Advertisement - Page continues below Lotus has also made technical improvements to the Emira, such as an optimised heating system for better coolant flow, and a higher engine start-up temperature so it's better suited to harsh conditions. Basically, it'll kick into life more easily when British weather does… British weather things. The V6 SE and Turbo will be available from September, priced at £96,500 and £79,500 respectively. Lotus Emira could swap V6 for hotter V8
Lotus is poised to offer a V8 option for its Emira sports car as the company looks to expand the appeal of its sole ICE model. But it is also a response to the fact that the V6 will not pass upcoming Euro 7 emissions regulations. CEO Feng Qingfeng told investors on the company's recent earnings call that 'We are currently investigating the feasibility of the V8'. Check out the NZ Autocar review of Lotus Emira V6 First Edition here. At the moment Lotus offers V6 and four-cylinder turbo options for the Emira. Both generate almost 300kW but Feng ruled out boosting the power of the V6. That's because it won't meet upcoming emissions regulations. The Emira is built in Lotus's plant in Hethel and last year hit a sales record of 5272 deliveries. New CEO of Lotus Cars in Europe, Matt Windle, said: 'The US is an incredibly important market for the car. So we're looking at the market demand for the product going forward.' And he added the company is looking at powertrain options, stating it Emira hadn't realised its full potential. AMG could supply Hethel with a V8. Whether or not it would fit into Emira's compact mid-engined frame is unclear. Lotus hasn't had an eight-cylinder offering in its line-up since Esprit V8 in 2004. Meantime, the company has halted shipments of British-built Emira to the US after the new 25 per cent tariff was applied in April. And America accounts for one-fifth of all Lotus sales. Ditto Eletre SUV and Emeya saloon EVs that are built in China. The US recently agreed to lower tariffs on UK-built goods to 10 per cent but Windle has yet to restart trade across the Atlantic. He said 'There's product that's ready to ship but what we don't want to do is jump the gun…' Lotus had intended to replace the ICE-powered Emira with an electric sports car but it is currently assessing the market before giving it the green light. 'Is the market ready for an electric sports car? I don't really know the answer to that yet,' said Windle.
