‘Amitabh Bachchan heard my insult and quietly walked away; I died a thousand deaths': Rohini Hattangadi recalls first-ever interaction

Veteran actor Rohini Hattangadi, who was typecast as elderly women for most of her career, reflected on working with Amitabh Bachchan. She played the mother of Bachchan's characters in films such as Agneepath and Shahenshah; the latter was shot during troubling times for the superstar, after his unsuccessful stint in politics. In an interview, she recalled her first-ever interaction with the actor on set, and said that she inadvertently insulted him. Rohini said that she disliked the work he'd done after surviving a near-death accident on the film Coolie, and mistakenly let him know. In an appearance on the Friday Talkies YouTube channel, she was asked about her equation with the legendary star, who happens to be older than her in real life. She said that she agreed to do Shahenshah, and was very nervous about meeting Amitabh finally. She arrived on set and waited anxiously with her co-star Supriya Pathak. Supriya had already worked with Amitabh for a few days, and had developed a rapport with him. While the two of them were waiting to be called on set for a shot, Amitabh walked into the room wearing an odd costume, and remarked to Supriya, 'Look how they've dressed me.' I immediately bit my tongue. He didn't say anything, and walked away quietly. I looked at Supriya in shock. What had I done. I spent the next few minutes in terror. I kept running scenarios in my mind; how I'd respond if Mr Bachchan said something to me. I had different replies planned. I died a thousand deaths, waiting to come face to face with him.' But, to her surprise, Amitabh didn't mention the awkward interaction at all, and continued working as if nothing had happened. 'After that, it was smooth sailing for me. That's what makes him a great star,' Rohini said. She admitted that she found his performance in the film Laawaris to be unworthy of his talent, and said that she felt the same about his post-accident films such as Inquilaab and Sharaabi. 'But he honoured his word to producers and directors, and fulfilled his commitment to them,' she said. Many of Amitabh's films were left in the lurch as he recovered from the injury he sustained on Coolie, and he made it a point to complete them when he got better.

Skin on Aamir Khan's foot came off while running in Lagaan, recalls Apoorva Lakhia: ‘I hit him with a ball 25 times'

Filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia, who worked as an assistant director on Aamir Khan's iconic film Lagaan, recently shared several behind-the-scenes anecdotes from the film's challenging shoot. In a new interaction, Apoorva revealed that he had to hit Aamir Khan with a ball on his head 25 times to get one shot right. He also spoke about Aamir's grit and commitment, recalling how the actor continued shooting despite badly injuring his foot during the climax scene. Speaking on Cyrus Broacha's YouTube channel, Apoorva recounted the time he was tasked with hitting Aamir with a ball. He said, 'There was a scene in which I was in charge of hitting Aamir with a ball. It was the scene where he gets hurt on the head with the ball. The DOP told me to hit Aamir hard so the timing during the scene had to be perfect and Aamir and my timing, in the beginning, was not correct because he would not turn in time and the ball would hit his eye, face. 25 times we had to do it before we got that shot correct.' He also shared a moment from the climax sequence where Aamir injured his foot while running, but didn't stop until the shot was completed. Apoorva said, 'I remember, Anil Mehta (DOP) was looking through the camera and Anil's reaction was 'oh ****'. We don't know what had happened. And Aamir didn't stop. He took the entire run. He came out to the other side, sat down on the ground and we realised, his entire skin of the foot had come off. But he just tied up and he carried on.' In an earlier conversation on Friday Talkies, Apoorva had revealed how Lagaan's shooting schedule extended drastically due to its scale and unexpected hurdles. He said, 'We made a schedule of 80 days, and went on to shoot for 300. There were many reasons for it, including financial ones. Aamir had to intervene and arrange for the funds. We started filming during freezing cold temperatures, and continued to shoot in frightfully hot temperatures too.' Before working on Lagaan, Apoorva Lakhia had served as an assistant director with renowned Hollywood filmmakers like Ang Lee, Michael Douglas, Mira Nair, Meg Ryan, and Tobey Maguire. After his Hollywood stint, he joined the team of Lagaan, which proved to be a turning point in his career. Post Lagaan, Apoorva went on to direct several Hindi films, including Shootout at Lokhandwala, Ek Ajnabee, Toofan, and Haseena Parkar.

'Rishi Kapoor refused to do workshops during '102 Not Out', Amitabh Bachchan agreed to do hence he did,' recalls director Umesh Shukla talking about the bond between the two actors

Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor were seen together in iconic movies like 'Amar Akbar Anthony', 'Kabhi Kabhie', 'Naseeb'. They had done '102 Not Out' together where they played father and son. In a recent interview, director Umesh Shukla has recalled some fun anecdotes which depict the bonding between the two actors. Umesh is known for directing movies like 'OMG: Oh My God', '102 Not Out' among others. During a podcast appearance, Shukla shared some behind-the-scenes stories and highlighted the duo's unwavering dedication to their craft. Calling the film an 'experimental' project, Umesh spoke about the unique dynamic of directing two veterans with contrasting approaches to acting. 'It was an experimental film we made with two yesteryear superstars who have different acting patterns – Rishiji believed in spontaneity, while Big B is a method actor,' he explained in an interview with 'Friday Talkies'. 'He is so perfect that you can never tell that he has done his homework; there is a lot to learn from them, especially if they came together. They had different levels of discipline, too.' One particular moment that stood out to the filmmaker was when Rishi Kapoor initially declined to participate in a preparatory workshop for the film. However, his stance changed as soon as he learned that Amitabh Bachchan was on board. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Las Cuadras: Ecuatorianos: generen un segundo ingreso con Amazon CFD. He said, 'We usually get the script and we act on it,' but when I told him that Mr Bachchan had agreed to do the workshop, he also agreed,' Umesh recalled. 'Chintuji had immense respect for Bachchan sahab. They have done so many films together, and the relationship I have seen between them was brilliant.' Umesh also shared an anecdote that reflected the actors' deep sense of discipline. Since both were portraying Gujarati characters, Shukla insisted that they not wear slippers on set to reflect cultural authenticity. 'I had said that when we act on the set, actors will not wear slippers because Gujaratis don't wear slippers at home,' he said. 'I used to keep the set very clean so that they wouldn't have any inconvenience. I used to tell both of them that they could wear slippers in close-up shots, but they were so disciplined that they wouldn't.'
