Tejas Mk1A to finally fly out of factory this month: HAL chief says
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will roll out the first Tejas Mk1A fighter from its Nashik production line by the end of July, with integration and test firing of the Astra air-to-air missile scheduled for early August, Chairman and Managing Director DK Sunil told TOI. Nashik Facility Marks Key Expansion in Production The Nashik line marks HAL's third production facility after two existing lines in Bengaluru. 'The first aircraft from Nashik is already in final assembly and under testing. We expect the rollout in a month,' Sunil said. The facility is expected to produce three to four aircraft in its inaugural year, eventually supporting an annual output of eight. HAL is also leveraging a private-sector supply chain—VEM Technologies (centre fuselage), Alpha (rear fuselage), and L&T (wings)—to add six aircraft per year, increasing total production capacity to 30 by 2026–27. GE engine delays In 2021, India signed a deal worth $716 million for 99 General Electric F404-IN20 engines to power the Tejas fighters. Deliveries of the GE F404-IN20 engines, which power the Tejas Mk1A, were delayed to March 2025 due to supply chain disruptions, including the collapse of a South Korean components supplier. As a result, HAL planned to rotate the limited available engines to conduct critical test flights, aiming to deliver 12 Tejas Mk1A units this year. HAL has hinted at possible penalties for GE over missed delivery timelines. Also Read: Uttam Radar not so Uttam for Tejas? 'We need to have some of the other issues sorted out like the firing of the missile, the Astra missile, which we plan to do in August, early August,' Sunil said. Indigenous radar replaced by a foreign one Earlier this month, it was reported that the indigenous radar may be replaced by the Israeli system. HAL has faced criticism for continuing to use Israeli ELTA radars in Tejas Mk1A under the current contract instead of switching midstream to the indigenous Uttam AESA radar. Sunil explained that although HAL initially contracted for 40 ELTA radars, certification delays for the Uttam radar and DRDO 's electronic warfare suite necessitated temporary reliance on imported systems. 'We waited until March this year, but when progress still hadn't been made, we moved forward,' he said. Addressing ASQR and legacy dependencies In response to concerns from the Indian Air Force regarding unmet aircraft staff qualitative requirements (ASQRs), Sunil attributed delays to legacy design issues and dependencies on partner agencies such as ADA and DRDO. 'Parallel efforts are underway to close these issues across multiple aircraft. It's not that there's no effort—it's just that the closure needs to be more structured,' he stated. Live Events Indian Air Force's future plans The Indian Air Force plans to induct a total of 352 Tejas aircraft from both the Mk1A and Mk2 variants. HAL remains on track to deliver all 12 Tejas Mk1A aircraft scheduled for this year. With engine supplies stabilising in the next fiscal and full production—with public and private sector capacity—expected to reach 30 aircraft annually by 2026–27, HAL aims to fulfil its commitments under the Tejas Mk1A programme.

Umno plans study to reclaim Bersatu, PAS seats in next GE
BATU PAHAT: Barisan Nasional (BN) has expressed its intention to recapture several seats currently held by Bersatu and PAS in the upcoming General Election (GE). Its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that, for this purpose, various studies and surveys would be conducted to identify potential seats the party has a strong chance of winning. 'We will work hard... and the seats will be recaptured by Umno candidates in the upcoming GE,' he said when officiating the closing ceremony of the Sri Gading Umno Division Delegates' Meeting here today. Also present were Johor Umno Liaison Committee chairman and Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, as well as Sri Gading Umno Division chief Datuk Mohd Lassim Burhan. Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, urged all members not to be swayed by the 'UMDAP' narrative propagated by the opposition, stressing that the current political cooperation involves a coalition between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH). 'In BN, we also have MCA and MIC; in PH, there are DAP, PKR, and Amanah. So, let's not fall for the opposition's propaganda aimed at driving a wedge between BN and PH just so they can resort to the 'tebuk atap' (backdoor) tactic again,' said the Deputy Prime Minister. Ahmad Zahid said the political cooperation currently being forged is a reality that all party members must accept and understand to ensure the stability of the government and to pave the way for Umno's return to dominance. 'If we want to win, we must find a way to win. While we are in government, we must work seriously. We cannot expect victory if we are complacent, if we fight among ourselves, if we betray one another, or if we allow others to attack us without defending ourselves,' he said. - Bernama

Jim Cramer on Howmet Aerospace: 'Likely to Finish the Year Dramatically Higher'
Howmet Aerospace Inc. (NYSE:HWM) is one of the 25 stocks Jim Cramer recently shared insights on. During the episode, Cramer noted that it is one of the stocks investors should consider. He said: 'But what do we do with the very different set of winners for the first half? I want you to consider the GE Vernovas and the Howmets and the Palantirs, the stocks that are likely to finish the year dramatically higher from these exalted levels. What do you do with the stocks that have been on a run nonstop for 26 weeks, though? I think you send them on one of those two-week vacations like that Southeast Asia, Cape Town, maybe New Zealand. You pay no attention to them. Let them have a good time. Just take them off your screen, come back to them when the rotations run its course.' Engineers examining stress tests of an aircraft engine, working to make sure its ready for flight. Howmet (NYSE:HWM) delivers advanced components and solutions for aerospace and transportation, including engine parts, fastening systems, engineered structures, and forged aluminum wheels. The company serves both commercial and defense sectors globally. During a March episode, Cramer mentioned the company stock and said: 'Finally, there are the industrials, again, a group that's prone to failure during a recession. See my point? These are all oddities, right?… Then it's followed by GE Aerospace and Howmet, which makes fasteners for planes. These are both part of the aerospace bull market, which is still going on. It's a quiet one that shows no sign of quitting at all.' While we acknowledge the potential of HWM as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. I've been left questioning real purpose of Alba Party
When we see murdered children every day, our personal problems seem very small. The current stramash is, however, symptomatic of a malaise within a party which continually claims to wish to unite the independence movement, while simultaneously embarking on a never-ending purge of its own members. So many great independence supporters I believed were giving the movement a new start – James Kelly, Denise Findlay, Eva Comrie, Chris McEleny and scores of others – have found themselves expelled or forced out. Party membership has halved. Like most decent people, I feel desperate to do anything I can to help stop the genocide in Gaza. I first authored the strategy to take Israel to the International Court of Justice and was there inside the courtroom in the Hague. READ MORE: What would posing MPs say of the suffragettes? I later travelled to Lebanon and for five months reported from the frontline, on Israeli atrocities there. So when George Galloway – whom I have known almost 50 years, although we have disagreed on independence – asked me if I would fight Blackburn on the issue of Gaza at last year's election, I flew from Switzerland to meet him. I had fought Blackburn against Jack Straw as an Independent in 2005 on the issue of the Iraq War, gaining 5% of the vote. Local Muslims I met with George said they wanted the chance to redeem themselves for backing Straw. I told George I would get back to him. I would need to get permission from Alex Salmond first as I was a member of Alba. (Image: JASON REDMOND) Alex and I had previously agreed I should not stand for Alba at the General Election as it was still too close to my imprisonment. The Unionist press would make mischief. I should wait for the 2026 Holyrood election. Alex was enthusiastic about Blackburn. He did not set any condition. Had he not agreed, I would not have done it. I published why I was standing, that Alex had agreed, that I was campaigning purely on Gaza, and that I remained an Alba member. I came within 3000 votes of being elected. The Alba member who got the next best result at the GE was Yvonne Ridley standing as an Independent in Newcastle. Also over Gaza. She also had Alex's permission, in writing. Yvonne has also just been blocked as a candidate by Alba. She was not even a Workers Party candidate, so the claim that the problem is the Workers Party standing against two Alba candidates in Scotland is evidently a lie. At this spring's Alba conference, I made a speech asking the party to stop expelling people, which was well received. All weekend, nobody mentioned Blackburn. At the All Under One Banner march in Glasgow, I had a conversation with Alba leader Kenny MacAskill over which Holyrood region I might stand in. Kenny indicated no reservation whatsoever. I was therefore astonished to receive a week later an email from the party stating that my vetting application had been rejected paper and I would not be allowed to go forward to the panel. The reasons given were my standing in Blackburn, and my failure to volunteer my imprisonment on my application form. As though every member of Alba did not know I was imprisoned, and exactly why. I remain urgently committed to the cause of Scottish Independence, and have recently been introducing the case to diplomats at the UN on behalf of Liberation Scotland and Salvo. Being stabbed in the back at this moment is unhelpful. I am sorry to say I am entirely unconvinced the SNP has any genuine intention to do anything about Independence. The SNP accept the Westminster veto, and therefore do not really believe in Scotland's right to self-determination. But no progress can be possible if the more radical wing of the Independence movement continues to fracture itself into ever-smaller splinters. So I intend to stay in Alba and try to reform it. I fear it is becoming a vehicle whose entire purpose is to get a clique of former SNP MPs and MSPs back on to the gravy train. They are being positioned to dominate the party regional lists. Those forced out or expelled have all been outsiders.
