Gordon Murray Gave the World a True F1 Successor With the S1 LM
The latest car news, reviews, and features. As a child of the 80s the McLaren F1 is one of the pinnacles of the automotive world. Today, examples go for more than $20 million. While the McLaren P1 and W1 are amazing machines, and the Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) T.50 arguably seems like a modern-day F1, none are. The GMSV S1 LM is. Murray bills the GMSV S1 LM as an 'homage' to the original. The GMSV S1 LM is the first build from a new Gordon Murray Special Vehicles company, which is a sister company to GMA and will focus on one-off commissions and limited-edition specials. The S1 LM is the latter. A GMSV client, presumably that also owns a McLaren F1 (or more?), commissioned five S1 LM models for an undisclosed amount of money. If you have to ask, more than you can afford, Pal. GMSV The design is a time warp of modern LED lighting mixed with the McLaren F1. Every surface is custom to the S1 LM, including an aero package with a model-specific front splitter, rear diffuser, and huge rear wing that all are said to work together to create 'significant downforce and stability,' though how much downforce hasn't been disclosed. As someone that's not a lawyer, one has to imagine this design is about as close as it can get to not treading into copyright infringement territory. 'I love timeless design. I never want us to join the race to make the most outrageous looking supercar at expense of balance, beauty and proportion. Look at the result, the car is timeless and beautiful,' Murray said. GMSV The S1 LM looks like a restomod blast from the past, but it's thoroughly modern. Beneath the sculpted carbon fiber skin lurks most the GMA T.50s powertrain, but it's been modified. The 4.0-liter V-12 has been punched out to 4.3-liters and produces over 690 horsepower with a custom Inconel exhaust system with 18-karat gold-foiled heat shielding. Just like a McLaren F1 had. Along with the larger displacement the engine features lighter internals and a higher compression ratio for more power, torque, and better responsiveness, according to GMSV. The redline? A screaming 12,100 rpm. A manual gearbox hooks to this V-12 using the casing from the T.50s and the T.50 internals along with revised linkage. The result is described by GMSV as 'short rifle-bolt throws.' While the underpinnings all started life with the T.50, GMSV revised the suspension geometry for a lower ride height in the S1 LM paired with specific damper settings. GMSV Like the T.50 and F1 before it, the interior features a three-seat design with a center-mounted front seat. My ears are bleeding just thinking about what this thing must sound like. And the look? It's everything you could dream about for a modern F1. This entire thing is rad and I love it. Take a scroll through the entire gallery and enjoy a blast from the past in the modern era. And to think everyone said the future is going to be boring. Got a tip on a rad vehicle? We want to hear from you. Send a note to tips@

10 Best Cars Revealed at 2025 Edition of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering
The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, held yearly during Monterey Car Week, has quickly become the number one place to unveil your new high-dollar supercar or preview what your brand is working on. Where SEMA is a playground for modified Toyotas, The Quail is a high-brow affair where the wealthy fly in on private jets, chequebook in hand, to get their hands on the latest special edition Bugatti, Lamborghini, Gunther Werks, Tuthill, and bid on a few million-dollar cars at the various Mecum, Broad Arrow, and RM Sotheby's auctions. Here, we're looking at the best new cars unveiled at the event. Best Cars Revealed at Monterey Car Week at a Glance Highlights of the event include: Now you've read the highlights, let's check out the complete list. Gordon Murray Special Vehicles S1 LM | Image: Supplied / GMA 1. Gordon Murray Special Vehicles S1 LM Price: TBA, very likely significantly more than the USD$3.2 million T.50 Nobody expected Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) to jump onto the supercar restomod trend, but when a client asked him to create his first ever commission under the new Gordon Murray Special Vehicles company, based on one of his greatest designs, he went ahead and created arguably the best restrooms on the planet. Called the Gordon Murray Special Vehicles S1 LM, the similarities to the McLaren F1 are clear visually, but the heart and soul is a unique and exclusive 4.3-litre V12 capable of revving to 12,100 rpm and mated to a manual gearbox developed using the T.50s casing with T.50 internals. 'I love timeless design. I never want us to join the race to make the most outrageous looking supercar at expense of balance, beauty and proportion,' said Professor Gordon Murray, Group Executive Chairman. 'Look at the result, the car is timeless and beautiful.' Of course, this comes at a price so high we'll never know exactly how much it costs to get one. We do know, however, that only five of these ultra-exclusive, road-legal S1 LM models will be made, and deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2026. Bugatti Brouillard Price: TBA, reports say USD$20-40 million Unveiled on the lawns of the Quail Lodge, the one-of-one Bugatti Brouillard made its first-ever global appearance as part of the marques 'Programme Solitaire.' This programme takes the ideas of the brands top clients and turns them into a reality, similar to early-20th century coachbuilding, think Galibier, Stelvio, Ventoux and Atalante versions of the original Type 57 chassis. 'The Programme Solitaire was founded to channel the love that passionate collectors, such as the proud owner of the Brouillard, have for honoring all that makes Bugatti unique – while realizing a creation the likes of which no-one has witnessed before,' said Hendrik Malinowski, Managing Director of Bugatti. 'Such a work of art and passion fills us with incredible excitement and anticipation for the future. We cannot wait to see where our esteemed customers' automotive dreams take us next.' The interior is the best example of this bespoke detailing, highlighted by the hand-crafted sculpture of Brouillard in the gear selector, but also the embroidered horse motifs on the door panels and back seats, made from custom-crafted, tartan fabrics sourced from Paris. It's a case of dream it, and Bugatti will build it. That's not green fabric on the interior by the way, it's rich green-tinted carbon weave contact by a crystal-clear glass roof that goes full cathedral. Last but certainly not least, while the performance figures haven't been shared, we do know that the Brouillard squeezes a 1,600 PS quad-turbocharged W16 engine into the bay with an all-new Coupé profile. Expect performance figures to closely resemble the Chiron, meaning 0-100 km/h in under 2.5 seconds, 200 km/h in under 6.5 seconds, and 300 km/h in around 13.5 seconds. 'Seeing the Brouillard presented for the first time in all of its beauty will be an inspiring moment, and an achievement to be celebrated – personally for everyone involved in the project, and for the marque.' Powertrain: Outputs: Drivetrain/Transmission: Performance: Lamborghini Fenomeno | Image: Supplied / Lamborghini 3. Lamborghini Fenomeno Price: from USD$3.5 million The Lamborghini Fenomeno is latest supercar added to the brands 'Few Off' collection, joining the Reventón, Sesto Elemento, Veneno, Centenario, Sián, and Countach, which have all been sell-out successes for the brand. Where those cars were showcases of the future, the Fenomeno takes the existing Revuelto up a notch, with more power, precision, and grace that now make it the fastest Lamborghini ever, both in the 0-100 km/h sprint, accomplished in 2.4 seconds, and in the 0-200 km/h sprint, achieved in just 6.7 seconds. If you're game enough, the top speed is over 350 km/h. To accomplish these feats, the Fenomeno takes total power up to 1,080 CV, with a record 835 CV provided by the naturally aspirated V12 engine and a further 245 CV developed by the three electric motors. That's matched by 6D sensors for the chassis and CCM-R Plus carbon-ceramic brakes, which are things you typically find in racecars. 'When we presented the Reventón in 2007, our goal was to create a truly superlative super sports car that represented the ultimate expression of what Lamborghini stood for,' said Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. 'This new few-off carries forward the same philosophy of distinction and innovation that is a fundamental part of our DNA.' 'Fenomeno is an extraordinary car in terms of performance, style and disruptive representation of Lamborghini, created to celebrate the value and achievements of our brand, and dedicated to those customers who expect the utmost exclusivity from us,' continued Winkelmann. 'But beyond its extraordinary design and power, the Fenomeno is the few-off that, more than any other in Lamborghini's history, introduces innovative technical solutions to make the driving experience truly unique.' While pricing hasn't been revealed, reports are that the Lamborghini Fenomeno will cost upwards of USD$3.5 million. Frankly, if your retailer hasn't reached out to you already, there's no chance you'll get one. Tuthill Meyers Manx LFG Price: TBA, but the car is limited to just 100 units The supercars steal the show, but the enthusiasts pick for best car reveal at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering is this Tuthill Meyers Manx LFG. It's what happens when you put a Porsche-derived 4.0-litre flat-six that revs up to 11,000 rpm into a Meyers Manx. If you're unfamiliar, the Manx is a fibreglass dune buggy, loosely based on a Volkswagen Beetle. This one, however, has been beefed up to the point that it has a fully air-conditioned enclosed cabin and Baja-like suspension. While specific details are still to be shared, we do know that part of the ownership experience is access to planned driving adventures across the globe for six years. The first drive will two years from now, with the inaugural LFG Baja Tour to mark the 50th anniversary of Meyers Manx's historic victory in the first Baja 1000. 'This project started as a dream between my long-time pal Richard and me, who are constantly in pursuit of the ultimate expression of freedom and performance. We came together to imagine the perfect Meyers Manx, and after we laid the foundation, we invited our friend Freeman Thomas to bring his design brilliance to Tuthill's incredible engineering capability. The result is exactly what we sought: raw, visceral, novel, and totally uncompromising. We call it LFG for a reason…' said Phillip Sarofim 'We crave experiences that we can look back on for the rest of our lives,' said Richard Tuthill. 'We now have an amazing car to help us to create these memories in a unique way. The car looks fun, mischievous, it has a character that I have genuinely never seen or felt. And underneath it's proper. Could we go to the moon and back in it? Probably. It has the capability to go wherever we point it, and we can do it safely and comfortably. In 2 minutes, it transforms from a fully air-conditioned enclosed cabin to a doorless buggy where the wind provides all the air we need. It's very special and I can't wait to get started.' Gordon Murray Special Vehicles Le Mans GTR Price: TBA, very likely significantly more than the USD$3.2 million T.50 Gordon Murray didn't unveil one, but two McLaren F1-inspired resto-mods during Monterey Car Week. The first was the aforementioned Gordon Murray Special Vehicles S1 LM, and the second is this Gordon Murray Special Vehicles Le Mans GTR. This model makes use of the high-revving GMA V12 engine and manual six-speed transmission, but changes almost every other element of the car in search of track precision. The longtail design finds maximum ground effect with plenty of functional vents, including a roof-mounted ram-air intake. Meanwhile, stiffer and lighter suspension, a wider track, larger tyres (Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2), greater cooling, and optimised weight distribution are incorporated. Driver-focused components are found inside that go above and beyond the T.50 where the entire dash, all switches and dials, seat cushioning, and pedal pads are reimagined. 'Longtail racing cars perfectly combine aerodynamic benefit and aesthetic balance, I've always loved their mix of considered engineering and flowing design,' said Professor Gordon Murray, Group Executive Chairman. 'Our Le Mans GTR timelessly reimagines the longtail racers I've admired since I began designing cars, adding contemporary aerodynamics and our exquisitely engineered chassis, engine, and transmission.' Like many of the cars on this list a limited series of just 24 GMSV Le Mans GTR supercars will be built, one for every hour of the Le Mans 24 Hour race. Development is already underway with the first customer production cars set for completion in 2026, and all cars have been spoken for with prices undisclosed. USD$200,000 Pronounced 'uh-MAH-ris' and made by the new and improved Karma Automotive group, the Amaris is a good-looking thing. While the name is a mess and the 400+ miles of range, 165 mph, and 708 HP figures don't jump off the page, the overall design is gorgeous as ever, with a clear link to the original Fiskar Karma in the lowslung bonnet, but also the 'Comet Line' which spans the entire width of the vehicle. Quite frankly, it looks like they took a Maserati GranTurismo Folgore to the gym and put it on a solid dose of testosterone. Sharp, edgy, and aggressive. Gunther Werks Project F-26 Price: from USD$1.57 million Sharknose! Name your new car after a fighter jet and you have our attention, but give it a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre flat-six co-developed by Rothsport Racing that produces 1,000 air-cooled horsepowers and our ears really prick-up. True to their ethos, Gunther Werks has taken a 993-spec 911 and turned it up to 15 out of 10, with silly power, torque, and a six-speed manual gearbox and a limited slip diff to try and keep it all 1,225kg under control. Where the magic happens, however, is with the F-26's chassis. It's been given a blue pill, making it 200 per cent stiffer compared to a base 993, and longer, too. You'll also find carbon ceramic brakes all round (six piston up front, four on the back), magnesium 18-inch wheels, and a big ol' wing at the back. The project is very reminiscent of the 935, namely because of the sharknose. However, it doesn't stop their as Gunther has added carbon fibre body panels and doors alongside that bespoke carbon-fibre front-end and headlights. If GW hasn't reached out already, you've probably missed out on the 26 Project F-26 cars they'll build. But in case you're asking, they start at USD$1,570,000 before customisation. Lexus Sport Concept Price: TBA We don't know much about the Lexus Sport Concept, but it was unveiled at The Quail and it looks quite promising. Interestingly, it's different to the GT-Based Lexus LFR that we saw running around Goodwood, and some have suggested that it might even be all-electric. What we do know, however, it that it's a stunning two door GT and the world is better when these cars are around. Powertrain : TBA : TBA Outputs : TBA : TBA Drivetrain/Transmission : TBA : TBA Performance: TBA Cadillac Elevated Velocity | Image: Supplied / Cadillac 9. Cadillac Elevated Velocity Price: TBA We don't usually bother with concept cars because they hardly ever become a reality, but Cadillac is different. They've proved that they're willing to put their low-production, high-dollar cars into production with the ultra-luxury Cadillac CELESTIQ, and the new Cadillac Elevated Velocity could be the next. This high-riding coupe-SUV has 'hyper-performance capability' that allows you to explore beyond the pavement. Whether you'd ever want to do that in such a sleek, expensive vehicle is another question, but the same could be said for cars like Range-Rovers. Two drive modes are featured, the first being 'Elevate,' which optimises performance recovery and the state of being through comfort-focused features. Second is 'Velocity Mode,' which leans into the vehicles lifted stance and lets you explore beyond the blacktop. Hennessey Venom F5 Evolution LF Price: from approx. $3 million To put it simply, the Venom F5 LF is most expensive, complex, highest spec Hennessey hypercar ever built. Oh, and it's also the world's most powerful internal combustion road car. Most importantly for the sake of the brand, it's a one-of-one vehicle that introduces Hennessey's bespoke customer commission division 'Maverick'. It does so by showing the world a 6.6-litre twin-turbo V8 that produces more than 2,000 HP and send it all to the rear wheels through a 6-speed gated manual transmission. It's absurd, and the man crazy enough to commission this thing is car collector and American Entrepreneur, Louis Florey, who personally specified every bespoke element, including the unique aerodynamic package and Cocoa Brown exposed carbon fibre. 'When our customers have a dream, we work to make their dreams come true,' said John Hennessey, company founder and CEO. 'Exceeding customer expectations is a badge of honor. Our new 'Maverick' division enables our customers to take our American Hypercar to a totally new dimension. I see it as the ultimate expression of the American Dream!' Hennessey has delivered 32 customer cars, but those that have already taken delivery can upgrade their model to the Evolution specification and feel the full 2,031 HP.

Gordon Murray Special Vehicles Unveils S1 LM at Monterey Car Week
Summary Gordon MurraySpecial Vehicles (GMSV) has launched its first commission, the S1 LM, duringMonterey Car Week2025. Limited to just five units, the road-legal supercar pays tribute to Murray's landmark 1995 Le Mans victory while embodying his design philosophy of lightweight engineering and timeless beauty. The S1 LM features a newly lowered roofline and full carbon fiber bodywork with Le Mans-inspired aero, including a splitter, diffuser and dual-element rear wing. At its core is a bespoke 4.3-liter V12 producing more than 690 hp, capable of revving to 12,100 rpm. Paired with a manual gearbox derived from the T.50s and a bespoke Inconel exhaust wrapped in 18-karat gold shielding, the engine delivers both extreme responsiveness and a distinct race-bred sound. Inside, a central driving position anchors a cockpit defined by minimalist architecture and lightweight materials, emphasizing Murray's principle of 'engineering art.' Suspension geometry, bespoke dampers and a solid-mounted engine sharpen the driving experience, connecting the driver directly to the machine. Professor Gordon Murray described the S1 LM as 'timeless and beautiful,' highlighting its balance and proportion over outlandish design trends. Built by GMSV's Bespoke division, the five cars are already spoken for, with first deliveries expected in 2026.

Gordon Murray Special Vehicles Blows Monterey Car Week Away With Two McLaren F1-Inspired Manual V12 Hypercars
Gordon Murray Automotive, responsible for the T.50 and T.33 variants, now has a sister company specializing in the sorts of bespoke creations that turn exotics into generational works of art. It's called Gordon Murray Special Vehicles, and the first two creations to be commissioned are named S1 LM and Le Mans GTR, making their debut at Monterey Car Week. As their names hint, they pay tribute to the McLaren F1 LM and GTR of Le Mans fame, and they give the great Gordon Murray opportunities to further improve on iconic hypercars he's penned. GMSV's Bespoke division will handle one-of-one customer commissions like the S1 LM, while its Heritage division will be responsible for continuation cars and reimaginings of cars Murray designed. Finally, SV design will produce ultra-low-volume cars like the Le Mans GTR. Since the GMSV S1 LM is the first car from the new company, it only makes sense to start there. 'S1' stands for 'Special One' and was ordered in a series of five, just like the GTR-mimicking McLaren F1 LM road car. Some of these five got an unrestrected race engine, and the S1 LM goes a similar way, with an enlarged 4.3-liter version of the 4.0-liter V12 from the T.50. Still capable of 12,100 rpm, it now produces "over 700 horsepower," and like the Aston Martin Valkyrie, the car has ear defenders for each of its occupants - in this case, three. Sadly for the rest of us, all five examples are going to one selfish customer obsessed with the McLaren F1, who worked with GMA and his own designer to help craft this modern reincarnation of the road-legal racer. With the McLaren F1 so valuable that it's practically impossible to write off in a crash, the S1 LM is instead based on the aforementioned GMA three-seater, but every surface is new, and the carbon fiber body has a lower roofline than the T.50. Unlike that car, there's no rear fan. Instead, there's an Inconel exhaust (wrapped in 18-karat gold-foiled heat shielding) exiting out of four central pipes like the car that inspired this design. Importantly, Murray has always bemoaned that his original McLaren F1 design did not have the Coke-bottle curves that would have given the F1 a much more sensual shape. That has been fixed here, and the result is something that turns the F1's design from striking to stunning. A bespoke aerodynamics package promises high-speed stability, while a unique suspension with new geometry, a lower ride height, and custom damper tuning should make for an even more engaging drive. Speaking of, there is still a six-speed manual gearbox, now with a redesigned linkage that delivers shorter rifle-bolt-like throws. Completely new seats and a fully redesigned interior with a new McLaren F1-like wheel masterfully blend retro design cues with contemporary craftsmanship, whether we're talking about the futuristic silver spec or the classic green tartan interior shown in these images. This respect for the past and embrace of innovative design will keep this interior spectacular for decades to come, and we look forward to seeing what the other configurations look like. Okay, so we have no chance at owning the S1 LM. What about the GMSV Le Mans GTR? Nearly five times as many will be made, so there's a shot, right? Of course not. Low-volume hypercars that are revealed at Monterey Car Week are often sold out long before, and that's the case with all 24 of these (one for each hour of the iconic Le Mans endurance race). The design takes inspiration from Murray's own longtail designs but also uses longtails like the Matra-Simca MS660, Porsche 917, and Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/3 as its muses. GMSV has developed a new platform for the vehicle, with the GMA 4.0-liter V12 and manual six-speed as almost the only elements carried over from the sister company. The Le Mans GTR also does away with a rear fan, yet its front splitter, deep side skirts, and twin-channel rear diffuser (through which the double exhaust exits) still "generate maximum ground effect aerodynamics." A roof-mounted ram-air intake much larger than those on the T.50 or T.33 promises an intoxicating induction sound through the cabin, with the centrally seated driver surely benefiting the most. Stiffer and lighter suspension, a wider track, larger Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, enhanced cooling capacity, and new vents and side-pod intakes for engine and gearbox cooling will allow for sustained abuse on track, and the solid mounting of the engine means the driver will have a direct connection with what the car is doing beneath them. Again, we must mention the Aston Martin Valkyrie. This has its engine mounted to the bulkhead behind the occupants, and the vibrations it creates are, shall we say, less than comfortable. However, GMSV has developed a new system that it says removes many of these noise and vibration issues. Still festooned in carbon fiber but less dramatically styled, this cabin is more reminiscent of the T.50 than the S1 LM, yet it's also clearly a much more high-end experience, with texturing and detailing on practically every surface, including the stunning door pulls and the hardware that binds these elements to the doors. Let's start with the F1 tribute. It looks as futuristic as a Kyza render, yet is unmistakably still teeming with F1 DNA. The massive lower side intake adds a level of drama and menace that the original was missing, and which other supercars of the era, like the Lamborghini Diablo, fully capitalized on. The combination of narrow LED slits and outlines that mimic the shape of the original headlights is arguably the only correct way to reimagine the F1, and the simplicity of the front fascia does a fine job of upholding the clean aesthetic that appealed to so many fans of the original. Admittedly, the intake on the shoulder line breaks up the clean lines of the profile, but this is an LM tribute, and combined with the five-spoke wheels and hood intake, it's just racy enough. At the back, the fonts on the badges and their placement on the complex mesh between the vaned taillights are elements that are only fully appreciated up close, and the classic triple-exit bumper vents are pure racecar. With the massive diffuser and exposed rear tires, the design combines the best of old-school '90s design with modern aerodynamic know-how. As for its sibling, the sharper angles, vertical lines below the sculpted headlights, and the almost Zagato-like rear end truly stir the soul in a way that the perhaps-too-pure T.50 did not. Both are beautiful, but this is a car that instantly spikes heart rates the moment it's seen, while the T.50's design needed to be savored to be fully appreciated. The rear haunches call to mind a Ferrari FXX-K from the front and the Ford GT from the rear, but there's also a clear GMA flavor in the glasshouse, roof snorkel, birds-eye view, and the lighting elements. Both cars are stunning, and while we have no idea what they cost, their provenance, performance, and presence seem worth whatever the asking price might have been. To sum these two cars up in a single sentence may be impossible, and we can't wait to see what's next from GMSV. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Besides the obvious differences in tech, the top Camry trim is also better to drive. Fair warning: the only thing I liked about it was how quick it was. Otherwise, I didn't feel like the $62,045 price tag was justified. Gordon Murray Special Vehicles reveals its first two bespoke hypercars, and they're just as exquisite as you'd expect. One's better for towing, and one uses less fuel but which one's the better truck overall? Bentley Reveals New One-Off To Show Off Monterey Car Week is in full swing, and Bentley is joining the festivities by revealing a new one-off creation at The Quali, A Motorsport Gathering. After the Mulliner Bespoke Studio launched a new color palette a little more than a month ago, it is now showcasing a new Ombre finish on a Bentley Continental GT, with this example transitioning from Topaz paint at the front to Windsor Blue at the back. On paper, it sounds simple, but the process for each car painted like this requires immense skill and precision. 2024 Land Rover Defender V8 review: Still wild at heart Watch More A Long Paint Process Creates A Gorgeous Effect The car is sprayed in contrasting colors front and rear, with the blend applied in stages using tinted paint mixed using traditional methods. Layer by layer, the overall fade effect requires two paint technicians working for approximately 56 hours per car. To ensure a uniform and gradual transition with paints that behave differently on application is a finicky process, and each car will be slightly different. Because of the complexity involved, Bentley Mulliner is only offering three color combinations at this point.
