Miley Cyrus jokes about bringing JoJo Siwa 'back out' of the closet and the internet has thoughts
Miley Cyrus' playful jab at JoJo Siwa's latest dating controversy has the internet in uproar. It wouldn't be Pride Month without some discourse! In a video that played at WorldPride on Sunday, the 'Wrecking Ball' singer shaded Siwa about coming 'back out' of the closet after identifying as a lesbian and then starting to date Chris Hughes after her stint on Celebrity Big Brother UK. 'Enjoy coming out of the closet if this Pride is the time for you,' Cyrus says in the video, before telling attendees to 'have an amazing Pride.' Then, the 32-year-old former Hannah Montana star joked, 'Alright, I'm going back to get some more pretzels and find JoJo Siwa and bring her back out,' while pointing over her shoulder at a closet. — (@) Siwa came out as queer back in 2021, before labeling herself as lesbian later on. And while on Celebrity Big Brother she reconsidered her sexuality and landed on queer again. 'I feel, like, so queer, do you know what I mean?' she said on the show. 'I think that's the thing, I've always told myself I'm a lesbian, and I think being here, I've realized: 'Oh, I'm not a lesbian, I'm queer.' And I think that's really cool.' Reevaluating your gender or sexuality is something many people in the LGBTQ+ community are familiar with. There is nothing wrong with coming out multiple times over the years as you home in on who you are. But Siwa decided to throw some shade of her own at lesbians while re-coming out as queer. She continued, shouting, 'I'm switching letters! F**k the 'L,' I'm going to the 'Q'!' Now, Cyrus is taking heat on social media for her comments, with people calling her biphobic and accusing her of queer erasure. — (@) 'I adore Miley but this isn't ok. JoJo never went back into the closet, SHE'S STILL QUEER!! Again JoJo being with Chris doesn't erase or change her attraction to women,' one person wrote on X. "Pride month should be about celebrating all members of the LGBT+ community, not about making jibes like this." — (@) "miley is wrong for this can we stop invalidating jojo siwa's queerness? she should know better as an older queer woman herself & i can't imagine how jojo feels hearing this coming from her idol" — (@) "ehh jojo is getting visceral hate from the community at the moment so miley doing this, even if it's a joke, is distasteful. especially considering they're meant to be friends" — (@) It seems fairly clear that Cyrus meant her comment as a playful jab from one queer person to another (Cyrus is currently dating a man herself), and some people took the joke in stride, finding it hilarious. Someone commented, 'apparently the entire internet can make fun of jojo siwa for years, but when miley (her friend) makes a joke, it's too much.' — (@) Another person posted, 'LMFAO Not miley basically calling JoJo Siwa a fake lesbian.' — (@) "The concept of miley cyrus keeping up with jojo siwa lore," someone else joked. — (@) Queer people who are also attracted to men are absolutely still part of the community, but some people get frustrated by queer women taking over Pride Month by announcing that they are now dating men. It's only nine days into Pride Month, and so far, Siwa finally confirmed her relationship with Hughes, Fletcher opened up about falling in love with a man, and Billie Eilish confirmed her relationship with Nat Wolff with a public make-out sesh. Still, although the debate about the privilege that comes with being in a straight-appearing relationship despite your queer identity is still raging, many other people took Cyrus' joke in the spirit it was likely intended.

Miley Cyrus claims Disney banned her from singing ‘Hannah Montana' songs after series ended
Miley Cyrus was apparently not allowed to have 'The Best of Both Worlds.' The 32-year-old pop superstar has revealed that Disney allegedly banned her from singing 'Hannah Montana' songs after her series ended in 2011. 'After I left Disney, I wasn't allowed to perform any of the 'Hannah Montana' music,' Cyrus said on 'The Ringer' podcast. Advertisement 5 Miley Cyrus attended the Tribeca Festival premiere of her short film 'Something Beautiful' at NYC's Beacon Theatre. That meant that the singer had to say goodbye to hits such as 'Nobody's Perfect' and 'He Could Be the One' as well as 'The Best of Both Worlds,' which was the theme song of 'Hannah Montana.' (However, she could still perform 'The Climb,' which was featured in 2009's 'Hannah Montana: The Movie.') At the time, Cyrus was already moving in a different, less Disney-friendly direction with her new label, RCA, that would result in 2013's 'Bangerz' LP. So, performing 'Hanna Montana' material that she had outgrown didn't feel right for her anymore. Advertisement 5 Miley Cyrus starred as 'Hannah Montana' on her Disney Channel series from 2006 to 2011. 'It's not like I wanted to,' she said. 'I mean, performing 'The Best Of Both Worlds' between 'We Can't Stop' and 'Wrecking Ball' wouldn't have really made sense.' Still, having become a teen sensation playing Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel series from 2006 to 2011, it was strange for Cyrus to cut the chord from those tunes that shaped her TV identity. 'It was still sad knowing those songs have my voice, my face, and I wasn't allowed to sing them,' she said. Vijat Mohindra Now, though, Cyrus is once again allowed to sing 'Hannah Montana' songs if she so pleases. That all changed in August 2024, when she was inducted as a Disney Legend during a ceremony at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. 'After being inducted as a Disney Legend, I was given permission to perform those songs in the future, which is pretty cool,' she told 'The Ringer.' The Post reached out to Disney for comment. Advertisement Fourteen years after the end of 'Hannah Montana,' Cyrus is a Grammy-winning veteran who is back with her ninth studio album, 'Something Beautiful,' which was released two weeks ago. She premiered the short film that accompanies her new LP at the Tribeca Festival on Friday night. 5 Former 'Hannah Montana' star Miley Cyrus was inducted as a Disney Legend in August 2024. 5 Miley Cyrus was heckled at the Tribeca Festival premiere of her short film 'Something Beautiful' by some fans who were under the impression that she would perform at the event. However, during the conversation portion of the night at NYC's Beacon Theatre, the 'Flowers' singer was heckled by some fans who were seemingly under the impression that Cyrus would be performing at the event. 'We thought this was a concert, we paid $800,' one person shouted at her after the 55-minute film screening. 'Are you actually going to sing?' another person asked. Cyrus, who hasn't performed live extensively since her last big tour for 'Bangerz' in 2014, eventually gave in and sang an a cappella rendition of 'The Climb.'

‘I Didn't Know.' One Thing Miley Cyrus Wishes She Could Go Back And Change About Hannah Montana's Later Years
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Nearly 20 years after it premiered, Hannah Montana remains a pop culture favorite among fans that can be rewatched with a Disney+ subscription. Its impact on the entertainment industry turned Miley Cyrus into the youngest celeb inducted as a Disney Legend. Despite going through her many different eras and struggling with fame after the show ended, both Hannah Montana and the Hannah persona still mean a lot to the 'Something Beautiful' singer, but there is still at least one thing Cyrus would change about the Disney show. One of the best things about Hannah Montana, if not the best thing, is Miley Cyrus' talents as a singer and performer IRL. Not only did Cyrus put on the wig and outfits and perform actual concerts, but she also had a hand in writing some of Hannah's biggest hits. She was inspired to lend more of her voice after her attempts to maturate the character went unfulfilled. Speaking on the podcast Every Single Album, Cyrus said she now wishes she'd been just as quick to make sure her contributions were legally recognized. In her words: I didn't know to like ask for songwriting credit because I didn't even know because I'm like, well, it's going to say 'Hannah Montana' and I'm Hannah Montana, so that's enough credit for me. But now I'm like, I should have really had more credit in there because I was shaping that whole identity of the thing. And a lot of the songs were written off experiences that I was having. Fans of Hannah Montana know that there are some very personal songs, and although Cyrus shared that some tracks are 'episodic' in that they work for a specific episode or storyline, there are certainly others that more directly reflect her personal life. Her initial reasoning for not pushing for songwriting credits makes sense, since she was just a child star trying to succeed, and naively believed that portraying Hannah Montana was simply enough. Which is part of the reason why Meet Miley Cyrus was a thing. The character's second album, aptly named Hannah Montana 2, was a double album that also featured 10 songs sung by Cyrus as herself. The songs were inspired by a breakup, and she was truly able to be herself and have songwriting credits. But it gave fans just a taste of who she really is, and although Hannah was never able to veer into more mature storytelling with those songs' lyrics, Cyrus putting out her own music gave her that form of expression. Regardless of Hannah Montana's clean-cut image and Miley Cyrus trying her best to give her a mature edge, she has proven time and time again that the experience meant the world to her. She even shared an emotional letter on the show's 15th anniversary, showing that she will always be Hannah. It's hard to believe that several actresses nearly earned the lead role in Hannah Montana, such as Lucy Hale and Aly Michalka, and it's equally hard to imagine how different things would have been had Cyrus not won the executives over. It would have been nice to see a more mature Hannah from the start, but perhaps a reboot will come together in the future that finally gives the actress the chance, even if it's not part of the 2025 TV schedule.

Miley Cyrus Reveals How She Felt About Nick Jonas After Breakup
never holds back from baring her soul, and she is one of the few stars who loves to speak her mind. In a recent episode of the 'Every Single Album' podcast, the actor struck old chords, reflecting on her teen romance with ex Nick Jonas. Cyrus not only opened up about her relationship with her ex-boyfriend but also admitted that she is still into him. However, Cyrus revealed that there are no bad feelings between them despite a bad breakup. Miley Cyrus is not holding back from talking about her previous relationship with her ex, Nick Jonas. On the June 6 episode of the 'Every Single Album' podcast, the 32-year-old even disclosed what she actually wanted to write about Jonas in her 2009 book, 'Miles to Go,' post-breakup, instead of what was published. 'I probably was like … 'Nick Jonas dumped me, he's a d—.' But they were like, 'We can say he's not a very nice boy,'' referring to the writer with whom she worked then. 'But I was probably like, 'He's an a——.'' Cyrus and Jonas first met in 2006 at a Charity Benefit. The Jonas Brothers even guest-starred on her 'Hannah Montana,' the Disney sitcom that launched Cyrus to stardom. During their time together, the former couple collaborated on the songs 'Before the Storm' and 'We Got the Party.' However, their whirlwind romance came to an end in 2007 after Jonas broke up with Cyrus right before the concert. Despite the bitter breakup over a decade ago, Cyrus has only good things to say about her ex now. In the podcast, she admitted that she still 'like[s] Nick' and is still 'into him.' The singer also gushed over their nickname from when they dated, quipping, 'Niley for life.' The pop icon even acknowledged that despite the past, both of them have moved on, and 'everything is good in the world.' Jonas is married to actor Priyanka Chopra. The couple is also parents to daughter Malti Marie. Meanwhile, Cyrus has been in a relationship with musician Maxx Morando since 2021 after her divorce from her ex-husband, actor Liam Hemsworth. Remember Rico from Hannah Montana? You won't believe what the actor looks like now
Moises Arias was skyrocketed into the spotlight when he starred as the troublemaker Rico in the beloved Disney Channel series Hannah Montana in the early 2000s. But now, nearly two decades after the show premiered, the actor looks so different from his Disney days. Moises, now 31, was cast in the Miley Cyrus-lead series in 2006 when he was only 12 years old. He played Rico Suave, a rich genius who manages Rico's Surf Shop - the beach concession stand that Miley's older brother Jackson works at. The two would sometimes feud and other times get into trouble together, making for a pretty epic duo. The actor started as a supporting role in the first season, but his character was so popular he was promoted to the main cast for its second season. He continued to star Rico for all four Hannah Montana seasons before it came to an end in 2011. But now, flash forward 14 years later, and Moises is practically unrecognizable. In a recent selfie shared to Instagram, the former Disney star sported some scruffy facial hair and a much-shorter hairstyle. Moises made his acting debut in 2006 in the movie Nacho Libre. He also had a brief appearance in the show The Suite Life of Zack and Cody before he landed his breakout role in Hannah Montana. The show followed teen Miley Stewart who was secretly living a double life - some days she was a normal middle school student but other days she was pop sensation Hannah Montana. Hiding her true identity - which was concealed by a blonde wig - from her classmates often put her in tricky situations. It also starred Billy Ray Cyrus, Emily Osment, Mitchel Musso, and Jason Earles. After the show turned Moises into a sensation practically overnight, he went on to star in a slew of big movies and shows. He acted in the film Beethoven's Big Break, the drama The Perfect Game, the comedy Noobz, the coming-of-age film The Kings of Summer, sci-fi flick Ender's Game, historical drama Ben-Hur, Pitch Perfect 3, the comedy Little B***hes, Five Feet Apart, crime drama American Murderer, and superhero movie Samaritan, amongst other things. Most recently, he played Norm MacLean in the wildly popular TV show Fallout, based off the video game of the same name. Over the years, Moises also dabbled in directing, working on a series of YouTube films with his brother, Mateo Arias, under the name Moiswashere. He also co-founded a fashion brand with his brother, Jaden Smith, and Willow Smith in 2012 called MSFTSrep. He is now also a photographer, and often shares his photos to his Instagram, where he has over 800,000 followers. Back in 2014 he became embroiled in scandal after a photo was shared to social media that showed a then-20-year-old shirtless Moises lying on a bed with a fully-clothed 13-year-old Willow. At the time, reports emerged that said Willow's parents Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith were being investigation by child protective services over the controversial snap. Jada defended the image at the time, saying there was 'nothing sexual about it.' All parties were later cleared. Jada later recalled her rage over the ordeal, explaining her on her Red Table Talk show in 2019, 'That was the first time I ever got furious.' 'I was looking at the [CPS] lady and the whole time I was thinking, "You could be helping so many kids right now,"' Willow added of the social worker. 'And you're wasting your time with a child who has everything they need.' 'The woman that was on our case, she was a nice lady,' Jada said. 'She knew.'
