New Genesis GV60 turns from Dr. Jekyll into Mr. Hyde
Genesis is becoming the king of the blink-and-you'll-miss-it update. Its GV60 hatchback is the latest model to get an almost invisible nip and tuck. However, look beyond the minimal makeover and Genesis has boosted the GV60's dynamics with the aim of turning this mild-mannered machine into a super fast, drifting hot hatchback. Like its sister cars from the Hyundai family, the GV60 sits on the company E-GMP platform that has been updated to accommodate a larger 84kWh battery – up from 77kWh on the old GV60. That means a decent range bump – now up to a claimed maximum of 348 miles, a handy increase of 27 miles over the old car. What hasn't changed is the 10 to 80 per cent charging time of 18 minutes at charging speeds up to 240kW. It's the character of the GV60 that has changed the most, which is hinted at by a 0-62mph time of 4 seconds (unchanged from the previous model) using Genesis' now-familiar boost button on the steering wheel. However, the paddles behind the steering wheel – which used to adjust the brake generation – now have a naughty secret. Pull them both towards you at the same time and you'll unlock Drift Mode, turning the car into a demon drifter that you'll be able to use for lurid slides (on a suitable circuit, of course). The GV60 has clearly been taught a thing or two by the sporty Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. There's now a virtual gearshift that simulates the behaviour of a conventional gearbox using the paddles. New four-pot brakes are now standard across the range, while an electronic Limited Slip Differential and four-wheel drive can also be specified for greater traction out of corners. In spite of the newfound sense of fun, the GV60 has retained its premium looks – this still doesn't look like a sports car. New bumpers and the front and rear will be spotted by the eagle-eyed, while a new version of Genesis' two-line headlamps are probably more noticeable – just. There's now colour-coding on the wheel arches, bumper inserts and rear diffuser along with new alloy wheel designs and one new colour – Tromso Green Metallic – among the 14 options. Inside you'll spot the new 27in panel across the dash that merges the driver display and infotainment, while there's a new three-spoke steering wheel, heated, of course. Thankfully the show-stopping revolving Crystal Sphere gear selector remains in the centre console between the front seats. The Bang & Olufsen audio system has had an invisible upgrade, too – it still has 17 speakers but now features Dolby Atmos for an enhanced sound experience. There's also a new digital rear-view mirror, while some of the other tech has been improved and will continue to get updated through a new over-the-air update system. Prices have yet to be confirmed for the new GV60, but Genesis retailers will be taking orders from 1 July.

The teaser itself openly acknowledges that this is on the company's new electric architecture, which would narrow it down to one of the two models expected to ride on sedan and an SUV. We can pretty safely rule out the latter here. We also believe this new platform will take advantage of Benz's latest powertrain tech, including more compact batteries and axial flux motors. As for the sound? Hmm. Where to start… The 'engine' note itself is perfectly pleasant, but there's more going on here than just noise—there are audible 'shifts' being simulated here. Sure, there are EVs out there with multi-speed gearboxes, but even those function more like old-school overdrive features than the many-geared automatics found in modern gasoline cars and trucks. What we're seeing here is more akin to what you'll find in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, where it's included as a driver engagement feature—and a surprisingly fun one, at that. But there's still one lingering question: is this going to be an 'exhaust' sound, or merely something piped into the cabin. The clicks audible with each shift sound an awful lot like paddle shifters to us, and why would you need to hear that from the outside? Given the mixed reception to EVs making uncharacteristic noises, Mercedes could be taking a conservative approach. While this would be at the precise opposite end of the spectrum from Tesla's Boombox and the inevitable Terrance & Phillip sideshow that followed, it may simply be too much fakery to woo whatever sliver of the car buying public an EV would appeal to if it simply sounded like it had a V8. Ferrari delays second electric car to 2028 amid weak EV demand
Ferrari's first electric vehicle, launching in 2026, is predicted to be a flagship and limited-run symbolic launcher into the EV market. If brand identity was built around visceral, petrol powered performance - like Ferrari, it presents a challenge to convince the client to go electric. Limited appeal, limited volume Historically, Ferrari sells between 5,000 to 6,000 units of its mainstream models over a five-year span. However, according to insiders quoted by Reuters, replicating this success with an electric version in the current market seems unlikely. Simply put, the appetite for an electric Ferrari isn't there yet—especially among traditional buyers who crave the roar of a combustion engine. The delay not only reflects demand concerns but also provides additional time for Ferrari to refine its EV technologies. The company has filed patents for a simulated engine and transmission system designed to bring some of the tactile excitement of internal combustion to electric platforms, akin to what Hyundai has done with the Ioniq 5 N. Nonetheless, technological innovation alone isn't enough if customers aren't eager to buy in. Lamborghini pushed its first EV back to 2029, while Maserati abandoned its electric MC20 altogether. This trend is part of a wider shift among the luxury performance market—where the emotional and sensory engagement with petrol power remains a huge draw. A strategic pause Given EV purchasing is lower than forecast and governments easing cryptocurrency bans on fossil fuel vehicles, the likelihood of Ferrari's delay is a smart move. Rather than pushing forward into a market it did not advance enough for, Ferrari is tacking left, likely holding onto its desirability and avoiding a potentially costly mistake. However, the market can change quickly. If performance EVs take off, Ferrari will be forced to quickly transition and remain relevant. Hyundai goes aero-mad with Pikes Peak-prepped Ioniq 5 N
There is plenty of motorsport happening today, including Formula 1 and Le Mans, but here is a look at something that takes aero to another level. Hyundai and Evasive Motorsports have prepared a bespoke Ioniq 5 N for this year's Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on Sunday. Looking for a new or used Hyundai? Find it here with CARmag! Driving duties fall to Rob Walker, a Pikes Peak veteran who previously ran a Scion FR-S. The car has been overhauled specifically for the 103rd running of the event. Evasive Motorsports calls it their 'most ambitious EV project to date', and that's not just marketing talk. The Ioniq 5 N has dropped 227kg thanks to a fully stripped cabin and extensive use of carbon fibre. That includes new doors, a custom tailgate, and other lightweight components. Finding race-ready parts for the Ioniq 5 N wasn't easy. With limited aftermarket support, Evasive turned to Japanese aero firm Voltex, which came up with a bespoke body kit. It includes a carbon front splitter, flared fenders, side skirts, underbody panels, and a massive rear wing — all designed to boost downforce for the high-altitude climb. The car's upgrades go beyond aerodynamics. Krontec air jacks help with fast servicing, and 19-inch Titan wheels wrapped in Yokohama slicks provide grip. A Moton coilover suspension with prototype anti-roll bars from EVS Tuning sharpens handling. Inside, a six-point roll cage and a single Sparco carbon fibre seat take care of safety, while CSG Spec pads handle braking. That's enough to get the standard Ioniq 5 N from 0–100km/h in 3.25s and on to 261km/h. 'We've come close in the past and feel it's far more achievable with the Ioniq 5 N,' said Evasive Motorsports co-president Mike Chang. Hyundai set to debut ambitious high-performance electric sedan. Will the Ioniq 6 N make a big statement?
Hyundai Motor North America is producing some of the most competitive electric vehicles on the market. Between the Ioniq 5, 6, and 9 models, the South Korean automaker has something for families of all sizes. Additionally, the brand has been working on developing more performance-oriented models. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has garnered plenty of attention due to its impressive specs. It has racetrack capability, according to Hyundai. Now, the automaker is preparing to debut an even more ambitious project: a high-performance electric sedan. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 N will "disrupt the high-performance EV segment to deliver exciting driving experiences" said Joon Park, Vice President and Head of Hyundai's N Management Group. The company aims to build on the momentum created by the shock and awe of the Ioniq 5 N's incredible performance. Though Hyundai is keeping plenty of details regarding the new electric vehicle under wraps, there are several clues about its performance and appearance that auto enthusiasts can derive from the Ioniq 5 N. The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N starts at $66,200. It produces a whopping 641 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. The high-performance EV accelerates from 0-60 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds according to testing by MotorTrend. The Ioniq 6 N will boast impressive performance specs, taking cues from its larger cousin, the Ioniq 5 N. Furthermore, the 6 N will be a lighter vehicle as a sedan, so it could be quicker than the larger Ioniq 5 N SUV. Expect the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N to feature a bold exterior styling with N-badging and performance parts including tires and brakes. The Ioniq 6 N is also likely to have a significantly higher starting price than the base model. Hyundai's 2025 Ioniq 6 electric sedan starts at $37,850 and tops out at $51,100 for the Limited final configuration. The 2025 Ioniq 5 Limited costs $54,300 compared to the Ioniq 5 N's $66,200-sticker price. If there is a similar price difference of $11,900 between Limited and N trims for the Ioniq 6, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N could cost around $63,000, making it slightly more affordable than the larger Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. A starting price north of $60K is hardly considered affordable to the average driver, even compared to rising new car prices (nearly $50,000 according to CNBC). That said, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N is anything but average. Hyundai's upcoming high-performance EV is more than just a niche performance trim to fill a gap in the company's portfolio, it's a statement. Hyundai is proving that it can produce more than just practical all-around electric vehicles like the base Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 models. It has nailed the basics based on several awards for its EV nameplates. Now, the South Korean automaker is aiming to earn style points, and target market share once dominated by Tesla's performance models. Electric vehicles were once considered impractical. Today, automakers are proving these vehicles can function as daily drivers and even track-ready performance models, capable of breaking acceleration records. Hyundai is helping to change the narrative surrounding EVs from inconvenient and lackluster to capable and exciting with models like the Ioniq 6 N.
