Harpy drone, Skystriker, Barak-8 missile... How Israel helped India firing Operation Sindoor to destroy Pakistan's plans

Harpy drone, Skystriker, Barak-8 missile... How Israel helped India firing Operation Sindoor to destroy Pakistan's plans Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has revealed that India used Israeli weapons during the recent military conflict with Pakistan. Netanyahu said this while praising the weapons made in Israel. During Operation Sindoor , India deployed several Israeli-developed systems for attack and air defense. These include Harpy drones, Skystriker weapons, Barak-8 missiles and Heron reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). How Israeli weapons proved their capability? 'Israeli equipment worked well during Operation Sindoor,' Netanyahu said while revealing his plan to increase military strikes on Gaza. He said Israeli weapons proved their capability during the war. The Harpy drone is the same weapon used by India to shoot down Pakistani missiles and target infrastructure in Pakistan. What is Harpy drone? The Harpy drone is manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries, while the Barak-8 missile is jointly developed with India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). India has emerged as one of the top buyers of Israeli weapons in recent years. India has purchased military equipment worth $2.9 billion from Israel in the last decade. These include radars, surveillance and combat drones and missile systems. Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in which 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen were murdered. Operation SINDOOR was conceived as a punitive and targeted campaign to dismantle the terror infrastructure across the Line of Control and deeper inside Pakistan. The operation unfolded across land, air, and sea—a seamless demonstration of synergy between the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy. The IAF played a crucial role in delivering precision strikes against terror infrastructure across Pakistan. It conducted high-impact air operations on targets such as the Nur Khan Air Base and the Rahimyar Khan Air Base, with visual evidence of damage presented during official briefings. The Air Force's robust air defence environment proved pivotal in protecting Indian airspace during retaliatory drone and UAV attacks from across the border. The indigenously developed Akash surface-to-air missile system and India's Brahmastra, the Brahmos were used.

'Worked Very Well...': Netanyahu Lauds Israeli Weapons Used By India In Op Sindoor

Last Updated: HARPY drones, which were widely used by India, were produced by Israel Aerospace Industries, while Barak-8 missile, developed jointly with the DRDO Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday appreciated Israel-made weapons, which were used recently by India during its four-day conflict with Pakistan. During Operation Sindoor, India deployed multiple Israeli-origin systems—HARPY drones, SkyStriker munitions, Barak-8 missiles, and Heron reconnaissance UAVs—in key strike and air-defence roles. 'Israeli equipment given before worked well during operation Sindoor. Israeli equipment, used during operation Sindoor, were battle-proven," Netanyahu said while unveiling his plan to increase military strikes on Gaza. HARPY drones, which were widely used by India to shoot down Pakistani missiles, are produced by Israel Aerospace Industries, while the Barak-8 missile is developed jointly with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Meanwhile, PM Netanyahu met India's Ambassador to Israel JP Singh in Jerusalem to discuss strengthening bilateral ties, including expanding cooperation, particularly in security and the economy. India has emerged as one of the top buyers of Israeli weapons in South Asia in recent years. Capable of deep-strike missions lasting up to 9 hours, the HARPY can operate day and night, in all weather conditions, and even in environments where Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are denied or contested. Once launched, HARPY drones can autonomously search for targets within a designated area, identify their frequency, and strike from various angles using either shallow or steep dive profiles. view comments First Published: August 07, 2025, 19:17 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. David's Sling shoots down a range of threats, including ballistic missiles

Over time, David's Sling has evolved to shoot down any of the aerial threats which Israel faces, whether short, medium, or long range. David's Sling, Israel's middle tier of air defense, has successfully shot down new and evolving threats, including rockets, cruise missiles, other missiles, and drones in a series of live-fire exercises, the Defense Ministry said Monday. David's Sling, manufactured by Rafael, has been in operational use for years, including in the Israel-Hamas War and to defend against threats from Iran and Hezbollah. According to Rafael's website, David's Sling combines 'innovative steering control, multi-propulsion, and an advanced seeker, it defeats high-volume asymmetric threats, including tactical ballistic missiles and large-caliber rockets.' Using David's Sling to shoot down ballistic missiles takes some of the pressure and heavy cost off of the Arrow 3, which is produced by Israel Aerospace Industries but is far more expensive. Originally developed to shoot down cruise missiles, which fly in a more line-drive fashion, David's Sling has evolved to shoot down any of the short-, medium-, or long-range aerial threats Israel faces. Iron Dome shoots down rockets, which fly in a predictable arch. 'The David's Sling system, specifically designed to counter various threats like rockets, missiles, cruise missiles, aircraft, and UAVs, constitutes a central defensive layer within Israel's comprehensive multilayered air- and missile-defense architecture, which also includes the Arrow weapon system, the Iron Dome Defense system, and the near-future Iron Beam system,' the Defense Ministry said. 'We're facing an intense decade ahead that will demand robust offensive and defensive capabilities,' Defense Ministry Director-General Maj.-Gen. (res.) Amir Baram said. 'Our adversaries continue testing our air-defense systems, so we must keep upgrading them while fast-tracking breakthrough technologies that will give us a decisive edge and boost our operational capabilities. "These successful tests mark another major enhancement to Israel's multi-layered air and missile defense architecture that performed exceptionally during Israel's war with Hamas and Iran, saving countless lives and preventing damage," Baram continued. Part of the world's leading aerial defense system 'Coming on the heels of the Israel-Iran war, Rafael is proud to conclude this advanced and highly successful series of tests," Rafael CEO Yoav Tourgeman said. "Alongside recent operational successes, this campaign further cements David's Sling as one of the world's leading air and missile defense systems. The testing integrated new capabilities across a wide range of challenging scenarios, with the system demonstrating outstanding performance against diverse advanced threats," Tourgeman added.

Is India's good friend cheating it over jointly developed air defense system? The friend is..., it is selling DRDO's...,

New Delhi: India and Israel have had a strong defense partnership for the last several decades. But this is the first time that questions have been raised on the intentions of the friendly country. Allegations are being made that Israel is marketing and trying to sell this air defense system alone, which it had made in collaboration with India's DRDO. What is the advanced air defense system in question? Barak-8 is an advanced air defense system. This is the same system that intercepted and shot down a Pakistani missile in the sky in Sirsa, Haryana. It has been developed jointly by India's DRDO and Israeli company Israel Aerospace Industries. According to the latest reports, Israel is now trying to sell this missile to some countries of the world by giving it a new name of 'Barak-MX'. Barak-8 was an important milestone in the strategic relations between the two countries, but Israel's attempt to sell this missile alone is going to trouble India. Why could it affect DRDO's credibility? A website named has claimed that Israel has not included the technology developed by DRDO in the export variant of Barak-8 air defense system. Especially the dual pulse rocket motor has not been included by Israel in the variant being sold. Israel's attempt to do so hurts the hard work of DRDO, its capability and the name it is building in the defense sector as it has made many weapons based on indigenous technology for India. What is the contribution of Indian entities in this project? India started this project in 2006 with Israel at an initial cost of Rs 2500 crore with an aim developing advanced air defense systems for both countries. This air defense system was designed to intercept ballistic missiles, advanced drones, cruise missiles and fighter aircraft up to the fourth generation. Major Indian defense companies including Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) were involved in the production of essential parts of this system. In collaboration with Israel, India has developed an advanced air defense system, which has also proved its capability by shooting down the Pakistani ballistic missile Fateh-2 in the air. DRDO developed a special dual-pulse rocket motor for the Barak air defense system which gives the missile fired from this air defense system the ability to maintain its speed and change direction suddenly until it hits the target. Israel also got a huge defense market like India for this missile defense system. Why is Israel selling this system unilaterally under a different name? Despite this, Israel is selling this system unilaterally under the name 'Barak MX' for which it has signed a deal with Azerbaijan for 12 Barak air defense systems. In 2022, Israel had signed a deal worth $ 500 million with Morocco. The main point of contention is that the Barak air defense systems that Israel is selling do not have dual-pulse rocket motors, which have been developed by DRDO. Reportedly, Israel is talking to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) about the sale of Barak defense systems. Is Israel trying to bypass India? According to by using its propulsion system in the export model of the Barak Defense System, Israel is bypassing the help that India has provided at the technology level. Due to this, India is not getting any benefit in the global defense market. Apart from this, the situation is also not clear regarding the intellectual property and data rights related to this project, which raises questions on India's technical and economic participation. According to the report, Israel's doing this has put New Delhi into action. It is believed that if Israel tries to make partnerships on a unilateral basis, then both future strategic cooperation and trust in Israel may be affected. This may affect future defense agreements between the two countries.

Romania buys Spyder air-defense suites from Israel for over $2 billion

JERUSALEM — Rafael Advanced Systems will supply short-range air defense systems to Romania for well over $2 billion, the Romanian Ministry of Defense announced this week. The transaction will be the second largest defense deal in Israeli defense-industry history after the sale of the Arrow-3 to Germany for $3.5 billion. The bulk of the Romanian purchase is for Spyder defense system batteries in various configurations, which will allow the integration of short-range interceptors. Israel competed in the Romanian tender against European competitors to provide a defensive response, among other things, from attacks similar to those experienced by neighboring Ukraine, such as drones, cruise missiles and attack helicopters. The Spyder is a mobile air defense system whose components are mounted on off-road trucks, and is built around Python-4 heat-seeking missiles and radar-guided Derby missiles, designed to intercept targets at low altitudes and at a distance of tens of kilometers. Rafael confirmed to Defense News that it submitted Spyder configurations for the Romanian tender. Romanian officials indicated that they will purchase six Spyder systems over a period of seven years, with the first two very-short-range systems to be delivered within three years of the signing of the first contract. Israel Aerospace Industries, which supplies the Elta MMR radar for the Spyder, is expected to receive a share of approximately $100 million from Rafael's deal with Romania, which brings Rafael's total Spyder sales to date to approximately $5 billion.
