Officer stalked his ex after breakup using 10 different numbers, UT police say
An officer is accused of stalking his ex-girlfriend using 10 phone numbers after she ended their relationship, Utah police told news outlets. The former girlfriend told Sandy City officers she broke up with Todd Douglas Goodsell of the Salt Lake City Police Department in November but he continued trying to contact her, police told KSTU. He tried contacting her 52 times after she asked him to stop, police told KUTV. 'There is clear and convincing evidence that [Goodsell] is a danger to the victim. This case involves stalking of a former partner where [Goodsell] refused to cease contacting the alleged victim after she requested several times to stop,' the charging documents obtained by KUTV read. The woman told officers she moved and changed her number along with her email address, police told KSL. He also tried getting ahold of her through Instagram and Venmo and would make a new account after she'd block him, police told KSTU. Goodsell started working as a patrol officer in 2019 and was put on paid administrative leave, Salt Lake City Police Department spokesman Brent Weisberg told the outlet. Although the woman said Goodsell was never violent, officers told KUTV 'stalking can increase the risk of intimate partner homicide by three times.' Goodsell, 40, was arrested on May 23 and charged with stalking a 'current or former cohabitant,' officers told KSL. Sandy City is about a 20-mile drive southeast from Salt Lake City.

Alisa Petrov, 15, from South Jordan, walked into the Colorado Springs Police Department on Sunday evening, six weeks after she disappeared, police said, according to KUTV. 'I'M RUNNING AWAY. Please don't contact me,' Petrov wrote on April 19 at 12:34 a.m. in a message to an unnamed man from Herriman, Utah, whom she met on Discord, the report said. The man was later identified as Samuel Teancum Mitchell, after police conducted a reverse search of the phone number he provided to Petrov, KUTV reported. Advertisement Their chats had become increasingly sexual, including discussions about condoms and sex games, as well as planning to meet in person, according to the affidavit. Messages were discovered on Petrov's iPad, which she left behind in her bedroom. She had shared her Snapchat username with him, and some messages may have been deleted, according to the warrant. BREAKING NEWS Love Island star Cashel Barnett jailed for 'choking ex' in front of their child
Love Island star Cashel Barnett has been thrown in jail after being charged with assaulting his ex. Barnett, 34, who appeared on season one of the dating show in 2019, was booked into Salt Lake City jail in Utah on Monday per TMZ - after he 'choked' the mother of his one-year-old child in front of the youngster on April 10. The alleged assault was reported by his ex on April 24 and a felony warrant was issued for Barnett's arrest. He has been charged with felony aggravated assault, domestic violence in the presence of a child and two counts of misdemeanor assault. She claims he then 'slapped her arms away' and when she walked away, he allegedly picked her up by the neck and threw her onto the bed Barnett, 34, who appeared on season one of the dating show in 2019, (pictured on the show with Kyra Green) was booked into Salt Lake City jail in Utah on Monday per TMZ - after he 'choked' the mother of his one-year-old child in front of the youngster on April 10. She claims he continued to apply pressure on her neck so she was unable to 'breathe or see clearly.' She claims Barnett then slapped her in the face and told her 'you're fine'. Following the alleged incident, the victim said she experienced coughing, trouble swallowing, neck pain, nausea, vomiting, memory loss, and a headache. Prosecutors wrote in court documents: 'The report of strangulation is particularly concerning. Injuries related to strangulation can be serious, yet not necessarily apparent. 'Victims who have been non-fatally strangled are 7.5 times more likely to become a subsequent victim of homicide at the hands of the same abusive partner.' 'The State believes that the victim will likely suffer further domestic abuse at the hands of the defendant should he remain out of custody. Therefore, the State requests that the defendant be booked and held without bail' prosecutors argued. Barnett is being held without bail and there will be a detention hearing on Thursday to determine a possible bail amount, if any. As well as Love Island, he appeared on The Challenge in 2022 and now works as a model and musician.

33-year-old flies from Florida to marry teen he met online, Utah officials say
A man was arrested after he was accused of flying from Florida to Utah to marry a teen, officials said. The 17-year-old's mom couldn't find her April 27, so she contacted family to see where she could be, according to a news release by the Utah County Sheriff's Office. She learned her daughter had been chatting with a man she met on social media for three months and could be with him, officials said. After tracking the teen through her Apple Airpods, deputies learned she was with Alex Pete Guy, officials told KUTV. Guy picked the teen up from her home and 'began driving East on I-80 with her quickly leaving Utah,' deputies said. GPS showed she was at a gas station in Wyoming so deputies informed the state's highway patrol, officials said. About 2 1/2 hours later, troopers found and arrested Guy. The teen was sent 'to a youth home in Wyoming so she could be reunited with her family,' deputies said. Guy rented a car and picked up the teen from her home 'without her parents' knowledge or consent to marry her,' arrest documents obtained by ABC 4 said. Guy was arrested and booked into jail in connection with aggravated kidnapping, deputies said. Utah County is about a 60-mile drive southeast from Salt Lake City.

Police issue Amber alert for 2 kids after finding their mom stabbed to death in Utah home
Police issue Amber alert for 2 kids after finding their mom stabbed to death in Utah home A man who prompted an Amber Alert for his two children in northern Utah has been arrested in the stabbing death of their mother. Ricardo Trujillo Rojel, 30, was arrested in Weber County on Monday night after 23-year-old Mayra Catalan-Dima was found dead in a home that had been set on fire, the Riverdale Police Department said. He faces charges of aggravated murder, aggravated arson and obstruction of justice. Officers found Catalan-Dimas with a severe puncture wound to the neck and burn marks at a mobile home park in Riverdale, according to an arrest affidavit. She was pronounced dead at the scene, where a fire was set using gasoline. Trujillo was booked Monday at the Weber County Jail in Ogden, Utah where he is being held without bail, inmate records show. Trujillo's attorney, Randy Kennard II, did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment Friday. Here's what police say happened. Amber Alert issued after children were missing When officers arrived at the fire around 2:45 p.m. Monday, they deemed Catalan-Dima's death as suspicious and noticed the couple's two children, ages 2 and 3, were missing. An Amber Alert was soon issued and lasted until around 8 p.m., when a witness spotted Trujillo and the kids about 80 miles south in Springville, Utah, police said. Rojel resisted arrest and assaulted an officer before he was arrested and booked into the Weber County Jail, police said. The children were placed under the care of other family members. Catalan-Dima's parents said that their daughter had plans to move out of the trailer on Monday before the tragedy occurred, according to police. Her mother said she had been with Catalan-Dima at the bank earlier that day when Trujillo asked her over the phone to return home. Trujillo attends first court appearance Friday Trujillo made his first court appearance Friday morning virtually at the Ogden District Court, where his three criminal charges were read to him, according to local news station KUTV. At the hearing, a judge granted him a no-contact order, legally prohibiting him from communicating with his two children or those taking care of them, KUTV reported. His next hearing is set for Wednesday, when Trujillo will appear before a judge who will determine whether to hold a preliminary hearing. Trujillo previously arrested on domestic violence suspicion Earlier this year officers arrested Trujillo on suspicion of domestic violence while under the influencer of methamphetamine, court records show. Trujillo was accused of breaking a window at the same trailer home on Jan. 18, when records show he damaged picture frames and shoved other items around the floor in front of his children. He was later charged with two misdemeanors, including possession or use of a controlled substance and property damage or destruction.
