NBCC inks MoU with NFDC to renovate, redevelop Siri Fort Auditorium into global cultural hub

In a regulatory filing on Thursday, NBCC informed that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with NFDC for the 'comprehensive renovation and redevelopment of Siri Fort Auditorium Complex'. Siri Fort Auditorium, located in South Delhi, was constructed in 1982 during the Asian Games. It currently has four auditoriums with a combined seating of over 2,600. In the past four decades, the auditorium complex has hosted global film festivals, musical events and public events. New Delhi, Jul 3 (PTI) State-owned NBCC Ltd has signed an initial pact with National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) to renovate and redevelop the iconic 5.5-acre Siri Fort Auditorium complex in the national capital into a world-class cultural destination. NBCC will be the Project Management Consultant (PMC) for redevelopment of Siri Fort Auditorium complex. The NFDC will bear the project cost along with PMC charges. The estimated cost to redevelop this auditorium has not been disclosed. A senior NBCC official said that the new complex will be constructed in a time period of two years after getting all the approvals from the NFDC, which is under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Under the proposed design, Siri Fort complex's built-up area will expand to more than 20,000 square metres, with a maximum permissible building height of 26 metres. It will conform to global green building benchmarks such as LEED, IGBC, and GRIHA and also comply with all regulatory codes, heritage guidelines. A Joint Empowered Committee, which will be chaired by a designated NFDC officer, will monitor the execution of the project. NBCC has redeveloped many projects in Delhi, including Pragati Maidan. Elaborating on the redevelopment project, NBCC said, 'The initiative aims to transform Siri Fort into a world-class, accessible cultural destination and a vibrant hub for India's creative ecosystem'. Stating that the new complex has been envisioned as a 'vibrant cultural district', NBCC said the 'Performance and Theatre District' will serve as the venue's cultural heartbeat, and will host large-scale productions, concerts and festivals. The 'Indian Film & Media Hub' will celebrate cinema through screenings, exhibitions and archival storytelling. A 'Convention and Dialogue Forum' will be the stage for policy summits, seminars, and intellectual exchange, while the 'Arts and Culture Zone' will offer spaces for visual arts, sculpture, and installations. The new complex will also house 'Culinary Plaza' showcasing India's regional cuisines as well as 'Cultural Bazaar and Retail Zone'. 'The revamped Siri Fort complex would feature intelligent lighting systems, kinetic stage architecture, immersive audio-visual setups, high-speed digital connectivity, and universal accessibility, ensuring it competes with the world's top cultural destinations,' NBCC said. The state-owned firm is into PMC and real estate business. PTI MJH MJH MR This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. ThePrint holds no responsibility for its content.

This Genius Eco Travel Hack In Varanasi Will Change How You See India Forever

Varanasi is one of the oldest cities still occupied. It is revered for its Ganges river as well as its temples and rich culture and Varanasi draws a lot of tourists every year. In recent years however, there has been a push for sustainable travel practices in Varanasi and while developing green tourism has its own challenges, it is extremely important. Here's how to reduce your carbon footprint and enjoy Varanasi. 1. Choose Sustainable Accommodation While in Varanasi, consider staying in eco hotels or eco friendly homestays. A lot of accommodation options nowadays are powered by renewable sources of energy like solar power, conserve water, and do not use single use plastics. When selecting your accommodation, check if they have certifications like LEED or Green Globe. Staying with local families in guesthouses will also benefit the community and will greatly reduce the impact that large hotel chains have on the environment. 2. Travel Responsibly In order to get to Varanasi, one must first consider his or her carbon footprint. If possible, use the train rather than a flight as trains have much less emissions than planes do. When one arrives in the city, make sure to get around via cycle rickshaws, walking tours, or even by electric vehicles. These options are eco-friendly and allow you to enjoy the city's beauty at the same time. Try and avoid hiring private cars for your Varanasi stay as they contribute to pollution and traffic jams. These modes of private transport should only be used as a last resort. 3. Respect Local Culture and Traditions As noted earlier, Varanasi has a rich history that is intertwined with the Hindu religion and it has to be respected in order to promote ethical travel. Dress appropriately when near places of worship and always seek consent before taking key shots of people and ceremonies. Taking note of local traditions and customs is one way to ensure the city can retain its heritage. Supporting locals by buying handmade goods like Banarasi silk sarees and wooden crafts is another way to ensure ethical purchasing. These actions also tackle the issue of overdependence on mass-produced products and promote sustainable livelihoods. 4. Reduce Plastic Use Every space of Varanasi is polluted with plastic and this is a huge concern for India as a whole. To help with the battle, use reusable water bottles, shopping bags, and utensils. Get water from trustworthy filtration stations or buy a portable water purifier. While dining, select restaurants that sell food in biodegradable or environmentally friendly containers. Make sure to motivate everyone in the group so that waste reduction during the trip can be achieved together. 5. Get Involved With Eco-Friendly Activities As an eco-friendly tourist hub, Varanasi has a lot to offer. For example, take a lecture on the historical importance of the ghats and partake in a walking tour that contributes to eco-tourism. You may as well assist NGOs active in protecting the Ganges and take part in river clean-ups. From here you have the option of traveling to Sarnath, an archeological site of Buddhist monuments nearby, where you can enjoy history and nature at the same time. 6. Aid Programs That Are Out To Sanitize The Ganga Like many rivers, the Ganges River holds special religious significance which therefore means it should be protected from the sewage, littering, industrial waste, and other pollutants that endanger its beauty. Participating as a responsible traveler means doing your part in cleaning the river. Sponsor organizations like the Namami Gange Programme that works to revitalize the Ganges River. Alternatively, one can volunteer with local organizations that do awareness campaigns, river banks, tree plantations, or other initiatives. 7. Buy Food From Local Venders Every trip comes with memorable food experiences, and purchasing food from Varanasi comes with the bonus of supporting the local community and being sustainable. In Varanasi, tourists should sample vegetarian cuisines which use vegetables from local farms. Snacks such as chaat, samosas, and lassi are commonly sold by street vendors and taste better when produced with local ingredients, which also helps reduce the carbon footprint. Remember to always prioritize your health and only consume local hygienic food. Bonus Tip: Self Reflection and Sharing Take the time to research Varanasi's unique ecosystem, its struggles, and the current preservation efforts before stepping foot into the city. Spreading this information can help fellow tourists understand its significance and adopt eco-friendly practices. Social media is a great medium to promote sustainable tourism – use it to underscore the good things that are being done in the city. Final Thoughts Every eco-conscious trip begins with a plan. In Varanasi, this first step entails purposefully and strategically minimizing your impact on the environment. From making eco-friendly accommodation choices to engaging with local businesses and aiding in their conservation efforts, every decision matters. Sustainable tourism increases the quality of the trip for the traveler and helps to protect the cultural heritage and natural beauty of Varanasi for the future. So grab your suitcase, step lightly, and responsibly delve into the unchanging beauty of this holy place.

Smart KLAUS Multiparking solutions reducing urban congestion in Indian cities

India's rapid urbanisation has strained infrastructure, especially in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru, among the world's most congested urban centres. Studies show that up to 30% of traffic congestion is caused by vehicles searching for parking spots. To explore multi-parking solutions, KLAUS Multiparking , in association with The Times of India , hosted a panel discussion featuring Aditya Bhave, Director, KLAUS Multiparking India, and Michael Groneberg, Director, KLAUS Multiparking Germany. The duo discussed how such systems can tackle the growing parking crunch. Addressing Urban Congestion Aditya Bhave said, 'With over 3 million new vehicles hitting Indian roads annually, traditional parking models are unsustainable. Multi-level and automated parking systems maximise capacity vertically, using less land while accommodating more vehicles. In dense cities with high land costs, they decongest roads and free up valuable real estate for public and green spaces. For urban India to adopt smarter mobility, these systems are no longer a luxury-they are a necessity.' Design-Led Integration Emphasising early integration, Aditya Bhave added, 'The best parking solutions are not retrofits they're built into projects from the start. Integrating multi-parking systems at the design stage ensures alignment with architectural plans, space constraints, and future scalability. Early consideration boosts space efficiency, FAR utilisation, and aesthetics. Crucially, it enhances project value-smart parking increases buyer, tenant, and investor appeal. KLAUS Multiparking has collaborated with top developers in over 2,000 projects across India over the last 20 years. Parking should be a core design component, not an afterthought.' Technology-Driven Efficiency The panel also spotlighted the role of technology. Michael Groneberg said, 'In land-scarce cities, technology turns constraints into possibilities. Smart automation, sensors, and modular design enable parking even in tight footprints. KLAUS's stack, puzzle, and fully automated parking systems use IoT-based guides and robotics to park and retrieve cars efficiently, eliminating human error and the need for large driveways.' He added, 'These systems work well in basements or narrow sites. Features like real-time monitoring and EV charging integration make them space-efficient, user-friendly, and future-ready. Technology enables cleaner, faster, and smarter urban parking where every square foot counts.' Sustainable Parking for a Greener Tomorrow Sustainability was another key theme. Aditya Bhave noted that smart systems can reduce emissions by up to 30% by cutting down idling and circling time. 'Sustainability is not a feature, it's a responsibility. KLAUS integrates EV charging points, energy-efficient lighting, and low-power operations, making these systems ideal for green-certified projects. Developers aiming for IGBC or LEED certifications see automated parking as a strategic asset.' At an operational level, he shared that KLAUS's manufacturing plant uses solar energy and lean production methods to reduce energy consumption and material waste by 20%. The company also designs durable systems with extended life cycles to enhance long-term sustainability. Conclusion As urban centres in India grapple with severe parking shortages driven by rapid population growth and rising vehicle ownership, traditional surface parking has become obsolete, especially in areas with limited land and escalating real estate costs. Multi-level and automated parking systems maximise vertical space, accommodating more vehicles in a smaller footprint while significantly reducing up to 30% of congestion caused by drivers searching for parking. Experts agreed that with thoughtful design, advanced technology, and sustainability at its core, multi-level parking is far more than a space-saving solution—it is a strategic investment for building future-ready cities. When integrated during the early design phase of residential and commercial developments, these systems enhance space efficiency, FAR utilisation, and site aesthetics, while also boosting property value. Technologies such as stack, puzzle, and fully automated parking systems leverage smart sensors for seamless, hands-free operation—even in tight or basement spaces. Features like real-time monitoring, electric vehicle charging, energy-efficient lighting, and solar power integration not only improve user experience but also align with green building standards. With reduced vehicle idling and minimal energy consumption, these systems also contribute to lower emissions and long-term environmental gains. (Brand Connect Initiative)
