Police probe alleged property damage from LIMA'25 aerial display shock waves

LANGKAWI, May 22 — Police have received 27 reports as of yesterday regarding alleged damage to homes, believed to have been caused by shock waves from aerial displays at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25). Kedah police chief Datuk Fisol Salleh assured that all reports will be thoroughly investigated before being forwarded to the relevant authorities for further action. 'We have the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) to conduct an inspection, and after the inspection and verification are completed, the investigation results will be submitted to the organisers - the Ministry of Defence and Global Exhibitions and Conferences Sdn Bhd (GEC) - to determine the appropriate category,' he said. He said this at a press conference on security and traffic operations for LIMA'25, held today at the Langkawi Police Training Centre. At the same time, Fisol expressed hope that all reports were genuine and urged the public not to exploit the situation. Meanwhile, he said 9,000 parking spaces have been allocated around the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) and 300 spaces at Resorts World Langkawi for visitors attending LIMA'25 starting tomorrow. 'The public planning to attend the air and maritime shows tomorrow are advised to arrive early to secure parking. I also understand that 35,000 online tickets have been sold, which is a substantial number,' he said. Fisol also advised the public to use the official LIMA'25 e-hailing service, MyCar, as it offers more convenience than driving themselves. Vehicles with MyCar stickers will not be affected by road closures. Previously, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the ministry had taken note of the claims of property damage linked to LIMA'25 and would not ignore the concerns raised by affected residents. — Bernama

(Bernama pic) LANGKAWI : Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today launched 'Ribat', the first high mobility light tactical vehicle designed and fully built by local company Mildef International Technologies Sdn Bhd (Mildef). The launch was held in conjunction with the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25) at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre. Ribat, the name chosen by the prime minister, refers to the spirit of guarding and defending the country based on faith, patriotism, and technology. It also refers to the practice of guarding and controlling the border to defend the safety of the people, symbolising preparedness, courage, and the spirit of sacrifice for the sake of the country. At the event, Anwar witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Mildef and major Indonesian defence company PT Pindad, which is set to open up opportunities for exports, technology transfer, and system integration between the two nations. He also witnessed the inking of a memorandum of agreement between Mildef and the Defence Science and Technology Research Institute – a research agency under the defence ministry. The MoA is aimed at efforts to develop two more tactical vehicle platforms to be domestically designed. Mildef said Ribat was developed by local engineers with the support of industrial-grade engineering facilities in Seremban and Sepang. It is equipped with a modular ballistic protection system and designed for missions such as patrols, convoys, and special operations. Mildef managing director Mohd Nizam Kasa said the launch of Ribat not only illustrated the capability of the local industry but was also a manifestation of the success of the government's policy to empower a self-reliant and high-impact defence ecosystem. 'Ribat is the result of local innovation, which proves that Malaysia is capable of being not only a user of defence systems, but also a creator of strategic technology trusted by both the government and the global community,' he said. Since its establishment in 2005, Mildef has grown from a group of young engineers to a key player in the national defence industry with its success in building assets such as the high mobility armoured vehicle Tarantula, the Rentaka 4×4, and now Ribat.

Lima '25 showcases Malaysia's focus on innovation, defence readiness, says Anwar

LANGKAWI, May 20 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia's hosting of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25) reflects the nation's strong commitment to defence preparedness, regional peace and strategic collaboration amid rapidly evolving global security challenges. Speaking at the LIMA'25 opening ceremony at the Langkawi International Convention Centre (LICC) last night, Anwar described this edition as far more successful than the previous LIMA, crediting the ministers especially Minister of Defence Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and international partners for their contributions in elevating LIMA to greater prominence. 'So again, let me express my profound thanks to all of you, ministers and senior officials from various countries and companies who took time off and participate in this LIMA exhibition to portray your spirit of cooperation and taking Malaysia as a great friend,' he said. At the same time, Anwar said Malaysia's geopolitical position as a maritime nation surrounded by the Indian Ocean, the South China Sea and the Strait of Malacca underscores the importance of maintaining defence readiness while upholding peace in the region. He emphasised that ASEAN, as a bloc, remains a pillar of regional stability, hence, Malaysia welcomes the participation of global powers including China, India, Korea, the United States (US) and European nations in LIMA'25. He said the presence of those countries signals not only support and build meaningful cooperation, but also reflects the shared ambition to shape the future based on progress, resilience and collaboration. Despite Southeast Asia's reputation as one of the most peaceful and economically vibrant regions in the world, Anwar said that maintaining peace must never be taken for granted, instead, it requires continuous investment in defence capabilities and preparedness against unpredictable global developments. 'I must state that any country to secure and ensure peace, there must be preparedness and must be able to appreciate the changing circumstances, the state-of-the-art in the (defence) industry and you have seen in the past years in this exhibition and this year's LIMA, the changing capacity. 'From the report I have seen the change not only unprecedented, the pace of change, particularly with new technology and AI (Artificial Intelligence), is exceptional and it is precisely for this reason that we find the exhibition in defence... is displayed for us to learn, share and see,' he added. Besides that, Anwar said LIMA'25 also offers a critical platform to showcase the latest advancements and foster collaboration between nations and defence industries, both globally and within Malaysia's own ecosystem. With 860 exhibitors participating in this year's edition, Anwar described LIMA as one of the world's foremost defence and commercial aerospace exhibitions, adding that it provides opportunities to support local enterprises while enhancing Malaysia's strategic capabilities. He said the exhibition is not just about military displays, it's about building partnerships, supporting local industries, and to keep pace with innovation for national and regional security. The Prime Minister also touched on Malaysia's continuous engagement in multilateral security efforts, such as joint border committees, the Malacca Strait Patrols, and trilateral cooperation frameworks which have yielded tangible outcomes in maritime safety. 'We ascribe to the ASEAN position of centrality takes a very strong committed position to engage with all our neighboring countries and partners, East and West, United States, China, India, Australia and the rest and I think this for me, means truly strategic engagements with partners that will secure and ensure peace for the present and future,' he added. He also reaffirmed Malaysia's global stance on peace and security, including its long-standing role in United Nations peacekeeping missions and its support for inclusive initiatives such as the Women, Peace and Security agenda. LIMA'25 is co-organised by the Ministry of Defence and Global Exhibitions and Conferences Sdn Bhd (GEC), with a focus on innovation and enhancing competitiveness among industry players in line with current technological advancements. Themed 'Today's Innovation, Tomorrow's Achievements', LIMA'25 (May 20 to 24) will take place in Langkawi, Kedah, and remains one of the largest maritime and aerospace exhibitions in Southeast Asia since its inception in 1991. — Bernama

Navy boat crashes into tourist vessel during LIMA'25 drill, no major injuries reported

KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 — A Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) boat lost control during a rehearsal for a capability demonstration held in conjunction with the opening of the maritime segment of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25) yesterday. Malaysia's Su-30MKM fighter jet sports new Avatar-themed ‘Toruk Makto' livery ahead of LIMA '25

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 — The Royal Malaysian Air Force's (RMAF) Su-30MKM fighter jet has been unveiled in a new livery ahead of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA '25), bearing the special title 'Toruk Makto'. In a statement today, RMAF said the new body design of the aircraft was inspired by the legendary creature in the film Avatar, known as the Toruk or 'The Last Shadow'. According to the statement, in the fictional film, the title Toruk Makto is given to those who succeed in taming and riding the Toruk — a feat only possible for those with a pure and noble spirit. In the real world, RMAF said Su-30MKM fighter jet pilots reflected a similar spirit because the aircraft, equipped with 4.5 generation technology, supermaneuverability, and advanced weaponry, was not just a war machine but an 'iron beast' that required an operator with a great soul. 'They are the chosen ones, not just because of their prowess, but for the purity of their spirit,' the statement read. 'In the cockpit, a pilot must make split-second decisions, sometimes between life and death. These decisions can only be made by a soul free of ego and personal intent,' it said. LIMA '25, themed 'Today's Innovation, Tomorrow's Achievements', will take place in Langkawi from May 20 to 24, and will feature 102 aircraft and 35 naval vessels from various countries. It remains one of the largest maritime and aerospace exhibitions in Southeast Asia since it was first held in 1991. — Bernama
