Navy boat crashes into tourist vessel during LIMA'25 drill, no major injuries reported
KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 — A Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) boat lost control during a rehearsal for a capability demonstration held in conjunction with the opening of the maritime segment of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25) yesterday.
In a statement, the RMN said a board of inquiry will be established to determine the actual cause of the incident.
'There were no fatalities or serious injuries sustained by the boat crew as a result of the incident.
'However, the crew were taken to a nearby hospital for further medical evaluation,' the statement read.
Several videos that went viral on social media showed a boat bearing the RMN flag losing control, colliding with a tourist boat, and crashing onto the shore.
Meanwhile, Langkawi police chief ACP Shariman Ashari said the incident occurred at 4.34pm.
'The incident involved a security forces' boat carrying five officers and personnel during a training exercise and a public tourist boat that was moored near the shore.
'Two security personnel were referred to the hospital for further treatment. No civilians were injured and, as of now, police have yet to receive any formal report,' he said in a statement.
He urged the public to refrain from making speculations or circulating inaccurate information about the incident. — Bernama

KTM Komuter, ETS timetables tweaked for upgrading works from Saturday
KTMB had postponed the upgrading works to ensure smooth travel for passengers in the Klang Valley during the 46th Asean Summit. There will be adjustments to the timetables for KTM Komuter services in the Klang Valley and electric train services (ETS) during the period. KTM Komuter services on the Pulau Sebang-Batu Caves-Pulau Sebang, and Tanjung Malim-KL Sentral-Tanjung Malim routes, as well as ETS services are expected to see delays of up to 50 minutes from their original schedules. In addition, two ETS services – EG9425 (Padang Besar to Segamat) and EG9321 (Butterworth to Segamat) – will have platform changes at the KL Sentral and Kuala Lumpur Stations, but only on May 31. 'Officers will be on duty at the stations to guide and assist passengers to the correct platforms,' it said. Previously, KTMB postponed the upgrading works to ensure smooth travel for passengers in the Klang Valley during the 46th Asean Summit. This was after the closure of several major roads in the Klang Valley, and the government's recommendation for the rakyat to use public transport to ease traffic congestion.

'Welcome to the team, Facundo Garces,' Harimau Malaya's official X account said in a posting today. Garces, who was born in Santa Fe, Argentina, has started training with the national squad. The 24-year-old plays as a centreback for Alaves, which finished the recently concluded season in 15th place, just two points clear of the relegation zone. He is expected to make his first appearance for Malaysia in a friendly game against Cape Verde tomorrow, before Harimau Malaya face Vietnam in a key Asian Cup qualifier match on June 10. Bernama quoted Garces as expressing excitement at representing Malaysia, describing joining Harimau Malaya as an 'incredible honour'. 'Since arriving, I've felt the warmth, sense of family and genuine support from everyone.
