'I have great plans and ambitions': Noah Hawley's multi-season vision for 'Alien: Earth' has me counting down like it's Christmas
Ask literally anyone in my life what I talk about most, and I'd bet 100 facehuggers they'll say 'Alien.' Considering this is my favorite franchise and a full-blown obsession at this point, 'Alien: Earth' is naturally my most anticipated series of the year. The sci-fi horror show is fast approaching. We're now just under a month out and with the world premiere happening at San Diego Comic-Con next week, the marketing has kicked into high gear. That includes the latest issue of SFX magazine, which features 'Alien: Earth' on the cover and showrunner Noah Hawley sharing more about his vision for the series' future. He said (h/t GamesRadar Plus): 'With Legion, I had a three-act structure. I didn't know if that was going to take three seasons or five seasons, but I knew what the three major thoughts of the story were. And here, I feel like I have that as well." Hawley continued: 'We created it as a recurring series, and I have great plans and ambitions for it as such. On the film side, I've had some conversations with them. 'This is not a Kevin Feige Marvel Universe moment. I'm not saying that in success, that we shouldn't be coordinating or thinking big picture about that – the show has to be a hit before you can really have those conversations.' I didn't know my excitement could grow for 'Alien: Earth,' but here we are. The fact that Hawley has long-term plans already shows he has faith in the series, where it's headed, and how it can tie into the larger universe. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. In fact, when speaking with Vanity Fair about the possibility of it merging with the original source material, he stated, 'I do know that at a certain point, the Weyland-Yutani Corporation is going to divert the Nostromo to that planet [LV-426].' You know, the charming little rock where curiosity gets you violently killed. Honestly, I feel like a kid counting down to Christmas. Only instead of presents, I'm waiting for Xenomorphs, corporate cover-ups, and even more otherworldly threats. If I could climb into a hypersleep pod and wake up on release day, I would. 'Alien: Earth' is set to premiere on FX on Hulu in the U.S. on August 12, and Disney Plus in the U.K on August 13. Built Like A Tank, Lights Like A Disco! Meet The Beast Of A Gaming Laptop, Lenovo Legion Pro 7i 2025
Subscribe to our FREE The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 is among the latest gaming laptops to feature aggressively high-end specifications. It follows the current trend of adopting RTX 5000 series GPUs and next-generation AI processors. With this model, Lenovo continues to solidify its Legion Pro lineup as a primary choice for users seeking a premium gaming laptop experience. Unquestionable Specs Recently, we had the opportunity to test the Legion Pro 7i to assess its performance and build quality. From this brief experience, it is clear Lenovo's Legion lineup remains true to its reputation as a machine built for serious gaming, not just a laptop with attractive specs on paper. The Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 comes equipped with flagship-level specifications suitable for users demanding the best gaming performance from a laptop. Here are the specifications of the unit we tested : Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX NVIDIA RTX 5080 16GB ( upgradable ) 32GB RAM (16GB x 2, upgradable ) 16-inch OLED display with 2560 x 1600 resolution and 240Hz refresh rate 1TB PCIe Gen 5 SSD with two available slots ( upgradable ) 80Wh battery ( upgradable ) WiFi 7 support (Credit: Zikry/TRP) Solid Build Quality Without Compromise The physical build of the Legion Pro 7i is impressive. There is no screen wobble while typing. The screen opens up to 135 degrees and can be lifted with one hand without holding the base. The front edge of the display protrudes slightly when closed making it easy to lift with a single finger. The matte finish gives it a premium look but it easily attracts fingerprints. Avoid touching this laptop after eating greasy food or you will regret it. Sorry pisang goreng lovers, no movies and snacking for you. (Credit: Zikry/TRP) Size & Weight Within Expectations With a 16-inch display and weighing around 2.6 kilograms or 3.8 kilograms including the 400W charger the Legion Pro 7i falls into the heavier category for gaming laptops. However it is not the heaviest in its class and remains lighter than some competitors even with the large charger included. Keyboard and Stylish RGB Lighting The keyboard offers satisfying tactile feedback with a clicky response. While not exactly silent it is still pleasant to type on. Lenovo also offers optional ceramic keycaps for the WASD keys and additional switches. These are available as an (Credit: Zikry/TRP) The plastic touchpad feels slightly less premium, but it was rarely used throughout testing since a mouse is the preferred input method. Perhaps the upcoming Legion 9 will feature a glass touchpad. As for RGB lighting, there are three brightness levels and six lighting effects. The RGB lights are not limited to the keyboard but extend to the front rear and logo. All lighting can be customized via the Legion Space app. (Credit: Zikry/TRP) Audio Performance Surpasses Expectations The Legion Pro 7i comes equipped with front-facing speakers and dual bottom-side speakers. Bass is punchier and clearer than expected for a gaming laptop. Still, for serious gaming, headphones or earphones remain the better choice. For casual entertainment, the built-in speakers are more than sufficient. A simple decibel test was also conducted using the Decibel X app. Songs were played at both half and full volume with the microphone placed approximately 25 to 30 centimeters from the speakers. (From left: Volume 50%, Volume 100%) Ports & Cooling System Designed for Practicality (Credit: Zikry/TRP) Compared to previous generations, there are no longer any ports at the back. That area is now dedicated entirely to ventilation. Personally, ports at the back would be better for cable management but this update is practical as hands will not feel as much heat when using a mouse on the right side. Here is the new port arrangement: Right Side: 2x USB Type-A 5Gbps 3.2 Gen 1 3.5mm audio jack Physical camera switch 2.5Gb LAN Left Side: Power port HDMI 2.1 Thunderbolt 4 USB Type-C 4 40Gbps DisplayPort 2.1 USB Type-C 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps DisplayPort 2.1 65 to 140W charging USB Type-A 3.2 Gen 2 Battery Life Acceptable, but Always Better Plugged In Battery performance is decent for light workloads and creative applications lasting about four hours under capped performance. However, for gaming, it is best to always keep it plugged in. This laptop is not for those prioritizing portability, but rather for users who understand the concept of performance over mobility. Without a charger, performance will naturally be limited as there is not enough power to fully drive the GPU. Performance Modes, Camera & Microphone (Credit: Zikry/TRP) Performance modes can be switched easily via the FN and Q shortcut between: Auto Mode (White) Silent Mode (Blue) Performance Mode (Red, only available when plugged in) Alternatively, settings can be customized through the Legion Space app. The 1440p camera is adequate but nothing exceptional. Performance in low-light conditions is acceptable. As for the microphone, its quality is basic and serves its purpose for standard use. Personal Feedback and Minor Drawbacks (Credit: Zikry/TRP) After two weeks of testing this high-end gaming laptop, there is little to criticize. However the OLED screen is more reflective than expected and is more comfortable to use in a dark room with curtains closed. Those accustomed to entry-level VA IPS or TN monitors, might need some adjustment time. In terms of performance, no issues arose. Most AAA games run smoothly on ultra settings with frame rates exceeding expectations. (Credit: Zikry/TRP) Expensive? Yes, Worth It? Also Yes The Legion Pro 7i can be Its price may seem steep, but as expected from a device in this class, it delivers premium build quality, consistent performance and unique features. Starting from RM14,112.11 (now RM11,872.01 with 15% off ) up to RM19,010.26 (fully upgraded), this is a purchase unlikely to disappoint. If not.. Hey at least you get RGBs? Council approves Veterans Memorial Crosswalk in Napanee
A new crosswalk in Downtown Napanee will memorialize veterans. The Town Council of Greater Napanee heard a deputation from Tiffany Lloyd of Greater Napanee Connect at their Regular Meeting on Tuesday, Jul. 8, 2025, requesting a Veterans Memorial Crosswalk. After reviewing the design and plans , the Council approved the new crosswalk in principle, with an official vote scheduled for the next Council meeting on Tuesday, Jul. 22, 2025. Lloyd kept her presentation short because the crosswalk had been discussed at Council a number of times. A Fire Truck Pull to raise the funds for the crosswalk received Council's approval and took place in the spring. 'I do want to thank Mayor Richardson for serving as judge on the fundraiser, the Town staff for their amazing support with the road closure, the fire department for everything they did, least of which was the use of the truck, the Legion for hosting the barbecue and lending their full support, volunteers, teams, sponsors, community members, everybody who came together to make this a reality,' Lloyd said. Lloyd asked that the Veterans Memorial crosswalk be placed at the bottom of John Street, directly in front of the Legion. She explained that the Napanee Legion Branch had approved the design and the location. It features bold red and white stripes, a soldier silhouette, and the words 'Lest We Forget.' Lloyd confirmed, 'I've spoken with Michael Nobes of Public Works, who confirms there are no technical objections to this location, pending Council approval. We also have a quote from Online Kingston for the painting work. We respectfully request that the Council approve the proposed crosswalk location in front of the Legion.' Richardson expressed gratitude to Lloyd and her new nonprofit, Greater Napanee Connect. 'The crosswalk is going to look magnificent in the location… and it's refreshing to see the municipality and the community come together for something like this,' the mayor said. Greater Napanee Connect is a volunteer-driven community enrichment organization in Greater Napanee, led by Lloyd, dedicated to fostering connections and engagement among residents, businesses, and non-profits. It aims to foster community spirit, encourage volunteerism, promote local initiatives, and bridge the gap between the private sector and local government. The idea for a veterans' memorial crosswalk arose in response to negative social media posts that criticized the installation of a Pride crosswalk in the town four years ago. Greater Napanee Pride initiated the crosswalk, and member Brad Way began a social media campaign to raise funds for the rainbow crosswalk in 2021. Greater Napanee Pride has since done yearly fundraising for the upkeep and replacement of the crosswalk. Some negative social media comments suggested that the Town should install a crosswalk for veterans rather than a Pride-themed crosswalk, despite the fact that no public funds were allocated for the Pride-themed crosswalk project. Lloyd, who is Vice President of Greater Napanee Pride, and others explained online how that project came to be, but were met with only complaints that 'someone' should do the same thing for a veterans crosswalk. So, after challenging others to put their money where their 'keyboard warrior' mouths were to no avail, Lloyd decided she would be that 'someone.' 'I, like many other people in this community, have wanted a veterans crosswalk for a while. I was happy to be part of the original organizing group that brought the veterans banners to Napanee, I invite the legion to every event we host to run a fundraising barbecue —- whether that's Pride, the fire truck pull, or the upcoming Guitars n' Cars —- and I always make sure to attend a Remembrance Day service,' Lloyd explained. 'In some ways, a veterans crosswalk is no different than a Pride crosswalk —- they are both projects that share the same goal: to use our public spaces to lift up what we value. On one side, diversity, and on the other side, a respect for those who serve.' Lloyd continued, reiterating that the Pride crosswalk is paid for by 'businesses and individuals in our community who want a clear visual that says that 'Everyone is welcome here.'' 'This shouldn't be political. It's simply an affirmation of belonging for 2SLGBTQIA community members, friends, and family we have here who have too often felt excluded,' Lloyd imparted. 'The goal is always to build a more connected and compassionate Greater Napanee.' Error! Sorry, there was an error processing your request. There was a problem with the recaptcha. Please try again.
