Katseye climbs global charts, ranks among top pop stars in Bloomberg list
Hybe's global girl group earns MTV VMAs nomination, Spotify milestones and praise for pushing pop boundaries Katseye, Hybe's first multinational girl group formed in partnership with Geffen Records, is making strides on the global music scene, ranking No. 12 in Bloomberg's latest "Pop Star Power Rankings," the company said Friday. The six-member group appeared alongside household names such as Post Malone at No. 1, Bruno Mars at No. 3, Beyonce at No. 4 and Sabrina Carpenter at No. 5. BTS member J-Hope placed at No. 18. Bloomberg's monthly rankings factor in concert revenue, ticket sales, album sales, digital streams, social media growth on Instagram and TikTok and YouTube views. The outlet noted that Hybe chairman Bang Si-hyuk recently declared his ambition to make K-pop an even greater global phenomenon — not solely through established acts like BTS, but by assembling multinational groups that sing in English. 'Katseye's growing success is a validation of Bang's unique approach to engineering global pop stardom, which continues to evolve since unleashing BTS,' Bloomberg wrote. 'Now, it's Katseye's turn to storm the charts.' This year, Katseye has stepped firmly into the spotlight. On Tuesday, the group was nominated for Push Performance of the Year at the upcoming 2025 MTV Video Music Awards for its debut single 'Touch.' Two days before, it performed at Lollapalooza Chicago — one of the largest music festivals in the US — only a year after its debut. The group first entered the Billboard Hot 100 in May with the single 'Gnarly,' debuting at No. 92. The B-side track 'Gabriela,' from its second EP 'Beautiful Chaos,' followed in June at No. 94. The EP debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 in July, marking Katseye's highest ranking yet and its second consecutive appearance on the main album chart. As of Tuesday, 'Beautiful Chaos' was at No. 61, holding a spot on the chart for five straight weeks. The EP has drawn praise for its bold, genre-blending sound, distinctive concepts and high-energy performances. On Spotify, the world's largest streaming platform in terms of subscribers, Katseye's presence is equally notable. In the service's Weekly Top Songs Global chart for July 4–10, Katseye had three tracks chart simultaneously: 'Gabriela' at No. 25, 'Gnarly' at No. 81 and 'Gameboy' at No. 149. 'Gabriela' also became the group's fastest track to reach 100 million streams, hitting the milestone in just 38 days.

Trompies on lighting up the stage, new album and more
The group is preparing to release a new EP in August. More than 30 years since their debut, kwaito legends Trompies are still the life of the party, and they have no plans to slow down. The iconic group had fans on their feet at the Imbawula Music Festival in Pretoria this past weekend, delivering a high-energy set packed with their classic hits. The group consists of Eugene Mthethwa, Mandla Mofokeng (aka Spikiri), Jairus Nkwe (aka Jakarumba), and Mahoota. Speaking to The Citizen, group member Eugene Mthethwa said the response from the crowd showed the lasting impact of their music. 'There are people from the '90s and 2000s, all singing our songs word for word. It means our music is immortal. 'We didn't do this because we couldn't finish school. We chose music because it's our gift. We take our craft seriously. When we perform, it's not just a rendition — it's a real performance. That's what has kept us going all these years,' he said. It'll be out in about three weeks. We're done recording, we're just finalising mixing and mastering,' said Spikiri. Formed in 1994, Trompies have been together for more than 30 years. Jairus Nkwe said he is thankful the group has stayed together for so long and cherishes their brotherhood. 'I'm grateful to God that we're still together, still spreading joy. I'm excited about the new EP. I also want to see whether exploitation in the industry still exists, because I believe God loves us all.' Mthethwa added that they plan to release the new music gradually. 'These days, you don't drop a full album all at once,' he explained. 'We'll release one or two tracks at a time to test the market and give fans a chance to connect with each song.' Tyla earns double nod at 2025 MTV VMAs
The 2025 MTV VMAs are set to take place in September in New York. South African pop sensation Tyla, real name Tyla Laura Seethal, has bagged two nominations at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. The Water hitmaker is nominated in the categories of Best Choreography and Best Afrobeats for her chart-topping single Push 2 Start. The 2025 MTV VMAs are set to take place on 7 September at the UBS Arena in New York. This year's ceremony will also see the introduction of two new categories — Best Country Artist and Best Pop Artist. ALSO READ: Tyla named among Variety's 2025 Power of Young Hollywood honourees Tyla: 'God rushed the process for me' In a recent interview on Apple Music's Dotty Show, Tyla reflected on her whirlwind rise to global fame. 'I kind of had a way I wanted to do this and a way I thought things would've happened, but God obviously rushed that process for me. There were a lot of times where I felt like, damn, I wish I had a little bit more time before the world saw my rough drafts — before the world saw me figuring things out,' she said. She added that she was still discovering herself when Water went global back in 2023. 'Because when Water blew up, I was still learning myself as an artist. I never had that much experience — until, obviously, I was thrown in the deep end with the Chris Brown tour, and then Water blew up.' Tyla's 'Push 2 Start' nominated for Best Choreography at the 2025 MTV VMAs, a nod to Litchi Hov
Tyla continues to make waves in the music industry with her nomination for Best Choreography at the 2025 MTV VMAs for her vibrant music video 'Push 2 Start'. Image: X Tyla has officially been nominated for 'Best Choreography' at the 2025 MTV VMAs (Video Music Awards) for her high-energy, colour-splashed music video 'Push 2 Start'. Released in November 2024, 'Push 2 Start' first appeared as an additional song on the deluxe version of Tyla's self-titled album 'Tyla +'. The song's popularity also skyrocketed after the release of its music video, which currently has 102 million views on YouTube, and with the release of a remix featuring dancehall legend Sean Paul. The music video's concept leans heavily on nostalgic aesthetics, shot in a car wash setting, dancers in coordinated outfits, and colour schemes that take you back to the early 2000s R&B and pop visuals. The nomination comes after the hit song was certified gold in the US. It also achieved platinum status in Brazil and New Zealand. It was also certified gold in Canada and Greece, and silver in the United Kingdom. The architect behind the moves While the spotlight is often on Tyla herself, the recognition for 'Push 2 Start' is just as much a nod to the choreographic brilliance behind her visuals, specifically her choreographer, Lee-ché Janecke, professionally known as Litchi Hov. Janecke has quietly built a name as the creative force behind Tyla's most celebrated stage and screen moments. With an impressive dance background, Janecke brings together routines that tell a story and bring social media engagement. His approach to choreography combines amapiano's rooted cultural groove with global pop structures. His goal is not just to create choreography that looks good; he also makes it a feel-good moment, embodying the sound's origin while pushing the limits of what dance can be on a global stage. The 23-year-old global sensation's rise has not just been about catchy songs; it's about how those songs move. From 'Push 2 Start' to 'Water' and 'Is It', Janecke has been guiding the body language of her era. Tyla's dance routines have become their own mode of storytelling. From the 'Water' challenge that went viral on TikTok to televised performances with complex formations, Janecke's fingerprints are all over her visual identity.

Miley Cyrus poses completely nude on new mag cover
Don't miss out on the headlines from Magazines. Followed categories will be added to My News. Miley Cyrus has posed completely nude on the cover of an upcoming issue of Perfect magazine. The singer graces the front page of a 80-page special issue, out on August 11, with nothing but her tattooed hand strategically placed over one of her breasts, while her hair is positioned in front of the other. The 32-year-old stands in the photo which is cut off very low on her stomach, suggesting she wasn't wearing anything during the photo shoot. 'Even if I'm wearing nothing, there still feels like a level of power to it,' Cyrus is quoted as saying in the accompanying interview. MORE: 'Blessing': Miley's wild claim on deadly fires The Grammy winner poses for two other covers for the magazine, shot by photographers Paolo Roversi and Lynette Garland. In the second cover, Cyrus is fully clothed in a Marie Antoinette-style gown paired with low-top Converse sneakers. 'I feel like right now I'm in that kind of God pocket: everything is just flowing and there's a real harmonious relationship between me and what I'm wearing,' she tells the magazine of the gown. 'It still feels like skin. I don't feel like it ever overpowers. I don't feel like it's wearing me.' And in the third cover, Cyrus rocks a corset by Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren from their Spring/Summer 1982 Savage collection. The sizzling shot comes months after she opened up about her body hang-ups on Monica Lewinsky's Reclaiming podcast, revealing she developed insecurities after seeing memes about her infamous performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards with Robin Thicke. To this day, the thought of swimwear haunts the star as it reminds her of the near-nude, two-piece ensemble she wore on stage at the time. Miley Cyrus says there is 'a level of power' to being nude. Picture:'There was a couple that were about my body, and people were putting my head on very unattractive things,' she told Lewinsky on the podcast episode which aired in June. 'And I still see that when I put on a bathing suit to this day. I wear very – you would never think – very modest bathing suits.' 'I'm still so insecure about those memes about my body.' On a recent girls' trip with her sisters and friends, Cyrus revealed she opted for a tankini when 'everyone else had on a string bikini'. 'Except me – I was in shorts,' she confessed. 'I don't even know if people wear tankinis anymore. I was wearing a tank top,' Cyrus added, saying that her choice looked like 'what a grandma wears to the beach'.
