Kota Kinabalu: Former Putatan MP Datuk Dr. Marcus Mojigoh, in his capacity as Putatan UPKO chief expressed concerns that Upko may not be given the opportunity to contest in the Tg Aru, Tg Keramat, and Petagas constituencies in the upcoming state election. 'I don't think they will give us any of these seats to contest. That is my prediction,' Marcus stated. Advertisement However, he added that Upko remains open to supporting any party – whether from the opposition or the government – that demonstrates goodwill towards the organization. Emphasising the importance of engagement and respect, Marcus noted, 'Proud people, those who don't visit the constituency, we won't support.' He further clarified, 'I'm very straightforward. Those who ignore us and treat us like a mosquito party, and not like citizens of Putatan, will not receive our support.' Marcus also highlighted Upko's established presence in Putatan, affirming that their support will be directed towards those who respect and actively engage with the local community. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Australian government to help pensioner, 75, after he begged for rescue from Thailand when his wife squandered his fortune on drugs
The Aussie pensioner whose Thai bride spent his life savings on drugs is receiving help from the Australian government. Last week, Daily Mail reported on the situation Marcus, 75, found himself in after his 45-year-old wife 'Pikun' allegedly squandered his life savings on methamphetamine. Community leader Boonthom Sorumpha, from Ban Dung district in Thailand 's northeastern Udon Thani province, urged the Australian government to step in to assist the disabled retiree. Marcus, who lost his left leg in a car accident, had relied on Pikun as his primary carer and entrusted her with managing his finances after moving to live with her in Udon Thani. But she became addicted to methamphetamine and burned through his $189,000. He now has only 1,500 baht ($72) to his name. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, which aims to provide consular assistance to Australian citizens whose welfare is at risk abroad, told Daily Mail it was trying to help Marcus. 'The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to an Australian in Thailand,' a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson said. Due to privacy reasons, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade would not comment any further on Marcus's case. The Aussie pensioner said last week he was desperate to return to Australia and wanted nothing more to do with Pikun, who is currently in a drug rehabilitation centre. After losing his leg in a car accident, he sold his Bangkok property for $189,000, and she took the money to manage on behalf of the couple. Her alleged drug habit then took over, and Thai media claimed she spent it all on substance abuse. It has been reported that the couple's son was also addicted to meth. Pikun's mother, Ting, said her daughter used drugs but maintained that she loved her foreign husband.

‘Endless Ponzi scheme': NDIS blasted for being ‘biggest drain' on taxpayers
Sky News Senior Reporter Caroline Marcus has labelled the NDIS an 'endless Ponzi scheme'. 'Even though it has become the biggest drain on taxpayers that this country has seen in a long time … it has instead blown out to include boys starting school who might not hold their pencils properly,' Ms Marcus said. 'This isn't an exaggeration – I know from having kids of a preschool age just how rife this is that suddenly what we would have considered growing up as normal and you'll develop, learn as you grow, now, suddenly, there's a developmental disorder and attention disorder because boys can't sit still in class.'

Aussie pensioner, 75, begs for rescue from Thailand after his much younger wife squanders his fortune on drugs
A disabled elderly Australian man is pleading for help to return home from Thailand after his much younger Thai wife allegedly squandered his life savings on drugs. Community leader Boonthom Sorumpha, from Ban Dung district in Thailand's northeastern Udon Thani province, has urged the Australian government to step in to assist 75-year-old Marcus. Ms Sorumpha claimed Marcus's 45-year-old wife, 'Pikun', who is 30 years his junior, became addicted to methamphetamine and burned through his $189,000. Marcus, who lost his left leg in a car accident, had relied on Pikun as his primary carer and entrusted her with managing his finances after moving to live with her in Udon Thani. Local officials say Pikun was taken to a rehabilitation centre after she allegedly went on a meth-induced rampage. This left Marcus isolated and unable to cope with daily life due to his disability. Marcus told reporters he had once travelled regularly between Thailand and Australia and previously owned a house in Bangkok. After losing his leg in a car accident, his wife took him to her home province. They then sold his Bangkok property for $189,000, and she took the money to manage on behalf of the couple. Her alleged drug habit took over, and Thai media claims she spent it all on substance abuse. Marcus now has only $72 to his name. He is desperate to return to Australia and said he wanted nothing further to do with Pikun, rehabilitation or not. It has been reported that the couple's son was also addicted to meth. Pikun's mother, Ting, said her daughter used drugs but maintained that she loved her foreign husband.

BBC Homes Under the Hammer expert leaves duo fuming at 'very low' valuation
BBC Homes Under the Hammer expert leaves duo fuming at 'very low' valuation Homes Under the Hammer was back on our screens on Wednesday afternoon, with a father and son duo aiming to make a huge profit after buying a four-bed home in Somerset A Homes Under the Hammer duo were left absolutely livid after an estate agent reckoned they'd essentially just "broken even" following all their efforts renovating a four-bedroom property in Somerset. Father and son team Marcus and George featured on Wednesday's (August 13) repeat instalment of the BBC property show. Presenter Martin Roberts travelled to Somerset to inspect the house they'd bought before auction. From the exterior, the property looked perfectly maintained and sat in a desirable area, close to local facilities. Upon entering the house, Martin found it remarkably difficult to spot any faults whatsoever and remarked how "unusual" it was to discover a property in such excellent condition on the programme, reports Somerset Live. Subsidence can prove an extremely expensive problem and may sometimes discourage lenders from providing mortgages on a property. Despite the legal complications, George and Marcus remained determined to bid for the four-bedroom house at auction but struck lucky at the last moment when fresh survey results were submitted to the auctioneer. George and Marcus explained they'd received way higher estimations from other estate agents in the area (Image: BBC) The property survey confirmed there were no mining or structural problems, but because this crucial information arrived so late, numerous prospective purchasers had already been discouraged. This enabled George and Marcus to pounce and secure the property for a remarkable £350,000 without any substantial expenses devouring their budget. Discussing their auction success with Martin, George revealed: "We were lucky, a full structural survey gave it a completely clean bill of health in the eleventh hour." The presenter then issued a caution to prospective buyers on screen, advising viewers: "We always talk about the importance of reading the legal pack here on Homes Under the Hammer, but an important lesson there, that that can actually change right up to the auction itself." Martin Roberts struggled to find anything wrong with the property He continued: "Turns out Marcus and George spotted that and probably bagged themselves a bit of a bargain." The Somerset duo initially intended to sell the property following a comprehensive renovation. They had a substantial budget of £80,000 to invest in the refurbishment and predicted the project would be finished within four months. When Martin revisited the home following the four-month timeframe, he was astonished to find that everything had been completed to an exceptionally high standard. The kitchen featured an open-plan design, and costly elements had been incorporated throughout. They disclosed to the host that all the renovation work had stayed within budget, and they had invested merely £59,000, bringing their total expenditure to £409,000. As with every series, Homes Under the Hammer subsequently brings in a local estate agent to assess the property's value following completion of the work. To their astonishment, the programme's expert assessed the property at around £400,000-£425,000, suggesting they would barely break even or potentially face a small loss. Marcus and George were visibly frustrated with the assessment and challenged the figure, telling Martin, "That's very, very low. We've had three valuations from three local estate agents now, and they've valued it just below £500k." Keen to remain impartial, Martin commented: "Whichever way you look at it, its either pre-tax profit of £90,000k or breaking even." Following all the assessments, George and Marcus decided not to proceed with the sale and instead retained the property as a rental investment. Article continues below Homes Under the Hammer airs on BBC One weekdays, from 11:15am.
