Nissan, Infiniti models recalled for possible engine failure

FRANKLIN, Tennessee: Hundreds of thousands of Nissan and Infiniti vehicles are being recalled across the United States due to a potential engine defect that could lead to sudden failure, according to federal safety regulators. On July 2, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Nissan is recalling 443,899 vehicles because of a manufacturing issue that could cause engine damage or total failure, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. The recall affects specific model years of the Nissan Rogue, Altima, Infiniti QX50, and Infiniti QX55, the NHTSA report said. Nissan estimates that 1.2 percent of all recalled vehicles contain the defect. The company identified a flaw in some engine components that may have been improperly manufactured, raising concerns about long-term reliability and safety. Drivers of the affected models are expected to be notified and instructed on how to proceed with inspection or repairs. No injuries or crashes linked to the defect were reported at the time of the announcement.

Car giant issues urgent recall of half a million vehicles over potential deadly system failure

Nissan is recalling over 480,000 vehicles in the US and Canada due to potential defects that could increase the chance of a crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) report submitted last week indicated that approximately 443,899 of recalls were in the US. The recall covers 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50s, 2021-2024 Nissan Rogues, 2019-2020 Nissan Altimas, and 2022 Infiniti QX55s. The vehicles impacted carry specific 'VC-Turbo' engines that may have manufacturing defects in their bearings which could result in engine failure. The NHTSA estimated that around 1.2 percent of the recalled vehicles have the defect. According to the organization, these bearing failures 'are not typically instantaneous and tend to progress over time.' Signs of these problems include unusual noises or lights, which signal potential vehicle malfunctions. Drivers whose vehicles are part of the recall can bring their car to a Nissan or Infiniti dealer for an engine pan inspection. The 2022 Infiniti QX50 and 2023 Nissan Rogue are some of models included in Nissan's urgent recall Professionals will then repair or replace the engine if necessary. The engines covered in the recall are 3-cylinder 1.5L and 4-cylinder 2.0L VC-Turbos. The repairs will be free of charge and ultimately depend on the extent of the engine damage and whether or not professionals discover debris during the inspection. 'For vehicles with the 3-cylinder 1.5L VC-Turbo engine, if no debris is detected during the inspection, dealers will replace the oil pan gasket, engine oil, and reprogram the engine control module,' the report stated. 'For vehicles with the 4-cylinder 2.0L VC-Turbo engine, if no debris is detected, dealers will replace the engine oil.' The NHTSA confirmed that dealers will be notified of more recall specifics on July 15. The organization will then notify owners of potentially impacted vehicles on August 25, along with a formal advisement to bring their automobiles to dealers for inspection. This Nissan recall is one of several that have already been initiated this year. Honda initiated one of the first recalls for US vehicles this year after 294,612 automobiles had an issue that could cause engines to stall or suffer power loss. Volkswagen Group issued a recall for 177,000 SUVs amid risks of engine fires in March, and another in April for Audi and Porsche after it was discovered that over 44,000 cars had software issues that could lead to system failures. Hyundai recalled 620 units of its 2025 Palisade SUVs a month later after defects leading to engine fires were found in the vehicles. Toyota recalled more than 443,000 trucks a month later after the manufacturers noticed defects that could cause reverse lights to stop working. Following this string, a few recalls were issued in June, including 62,468 GM vehicles, around 534,755 Ford automobiles, nearly 1,700 2023 Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L SUVs, and an additional 259,033 cars manufactured by Honda.

Dodgy transmission still causing headaches for Dart owners While Japanese and even Korean brands have been able to weather the crossover storm and continue seeing demand for small sedans, American automakers have not. Models like the Ford Focus and Dodge Dart have vanished from local showrooms without replacements, but one of these is getting attention again. Discontinued in 2016, the Dodge Dart is the subject of an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for a potentially dangerous transmission issue. Even worse, this problem was supposed to be remedied by Dodge years ago, but a fresh batch of complaints has forced the NHTSA to open a new investigation. 0:00 / 0:09 When will Toyota build an EV with its simulated manual transmission? Watch More Parked Darts At Risk Of Rolling Away 2016 Dodge Dart Limited 2016 Dodge Dart Limited 2016 Dodge Dart Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (now Stellantis) previously issued a recall in 2019 for Dodge Darts produced between the 2013 and 2016 model years. Only affecting models with the six-speed automatic transmission, this recall was for shifter cable bushings that could deteriorate and detach. Not only can this prevent the car from shifting into gear at any time, but it can appear as though the car is in Park when it's not. As a result, the driver could exit the vehicle and it could roll away or crash. The recall remedy (number 19V-293) was meant to remedy this issue, but the NHTSA has received 44 new complaints of worn, misadjusted shifter cables since then, along with more shifter cable detachments. It's now over to the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) to review whether the original recall was effective and identify the root cause of these shifter cables failing. An estimated 299,000 models are potentially implicated in this investigation. No Injuries Or Fatalities, But Owners Should Be Cautious 2016 Dodge Dart — Source: Stellantis For now, the NHTSA lists no injuries or fatalities related to the transmission issue, but it's easy to see how dangerous it can be if a Dodge Dart rolls away. Power rating for quality and reliability is just 67 out of 100, nowhere close to the Toyota Corolla of the period (88/100). Over at Car Complaints, there are a host of transmission complaints, especially for the 2013 model. Based on owner feedback, the typical repair cost is $3,420 and issues are encountered at an overage mileage of under 44,000 miles. 2016 Dodge Dart — Source: Stellantis 'I have had nothing but trouble since I bought this car,' said one Dart owner from Kansas. 'It's now on its 4th transmission and I've only had it for a year and a half.' The same owner had only clocked 45,000 miles at the time of submitting this complaint, so transmission failure does seem to occur quickly in automatic Darts. For now, we'll have to wait to see the outcome of the NHTSA's latest investigation. At the end of the Dart's life, FCA said it and the Chrysler 200 were terrible investments. Now, nine years since the Dart went out of production, Dodge is still dealing with issues related to the underwhelming small sedan. About the Author Karl Furlong View Profile

Nissan recalls 482,000 vehicles in US and Canada

Nissan Motor plans to recall 482,000 vehicles in the US and Canada because of possible engine problems due to manufacturing defects, according to the Japanese automaker and the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The models affected by the recall are fitted with either 1.5L 3-cylinder or 2.0L 4-cylinder VT-Turbo engines, including the 2021-2024 model-year Nissan Rogues SUVs, 2019-2020 model-year Altimas, 2019-2022 model-year Infiniti QX50s, and 2022 model-year Infiniti QX55s. The engines were found to have possible manufacturing defects in their bearings, according to the NHTSA, which could cause engine damage and lead to possible engine failure while being driven. The NHTSA noted that engine bearing failures do not typically occur immediately, but the problems tend to get worse over time. Some 444,000 of the vehicles to be recalled were sold in the US, while 38,000 were sold in Canada. Nissan said it will send out letters to owners of the affected vehicles in August to check for and remedy any damage. Nissan sold a total of 488,526 vehicles in the US in the first half of 2025, down just slightly from last year. The Rogue was its best-selling model in this period with 47,461 deliveries, while sales of the Altima sedan amounted to 26,298 units. Nissan recalls over 480,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada for engine failure risk

NEW YORK — Nissan is recalling more than 480,000 of its vehicles across the U.S. and Canada due to potential manufacturing defects that could cause engine failure. The recall covers certain Nissan Rogues between 2021 and 2024 model years and 2019-2020 Altimas — as well as a number of 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50s and 2022 Infiniti QX55s sold under the automaker's luxury brand, according to Nissan and documents published by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration this week. The vehicles affected carry specific 'VC-Turbo' engines that may have manufacturing defects in their bearings, the NHTSA's recall report notes. This may cause engine damage and possibly lead to engine failure while driving, the regulator warns — increasing crash risks. Engine bearing failures 'are not typically instantaneous and tend to progress over time,' the NHTSA's recall report notes. That means effected drivers may see multiple warning signs to look out for — including abnormal noises or malfunction indicator lights. In the U.S., 443,899 vehicles are covered in this recall, per NHTSA documents. And in Canada, 37,837 are affected, a Nissan spokesperson confirmed to The Associated Press on Thursday. As a remedy, the NHSTA's recall report notes, Nissan and Infiniti dealers will inspect the engine pan of these-now recalled cars — and repair or replace the engine if necessary. The recall covers vehicles with either 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L VC-Turbo engines. Potential repairs — which will be performed free of charge — will depend on the engine and whether debris is detected during the inspection. In an emailed statement, Nissan said it initiated this recall as part of its 'ongoing commitment to customer safety.' And in late August, the company added, notification letters will be mailed out to affected owners 'with instructions to bring their vehicle to a Nissan dealer or INFINITI retailer for inspection and repair if necessary.' In the meantime, drivers can also confirm if their specific vehicle is included in this recall and find more information using the NHTSA site or Nissan's recall lookup.
