Sisters create plant shop to honor brother, grow hope and healing

CREST HILL, Ill. — Along a busy road in Crest Hill, sits a little plant shop named called Rejuvenate. It isn't just a store, it's a living tribute. The name was chosen with care, a blend of healing and memory. 'On February 9, 2020 I lost my brother to mental illness,' Ashley Searing said. 'He was 25-years-old, 10 days shy of his 26th birthday. … It really wasn't until Nate passed that opened my eyes. … How we lost someone we had no clue was struggling.' More from Erin: Suburban man brings history back to life with 75-foot WWII aircraft In those dark moments, Searing found solace in the small grounding act of planting in pots she painted with colors Nate would haveloved. And that's when the idea for Rejuvenate bloomed. 'Taking care of that plant and giving it what it needs, I hope it reminds you to also give yourself what you need,' Searing said. More News, Weather and Headlines at The shop is a safe place to express feelings through a paintbrush and words. 'A community, somewhere they can go and find each other, help each other and talk to each other,' Hailey Searing said. Both words of encouragement and Nate's presence are tucked among fiddle leaf figs, succulents and trailing ivy. And it's not just for the customers, but the family has found their own healing by growing awareness. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Student uses school leadership position to fundraise

The Mandurah Baptist College Primary School head boy is hoping to use his position to help children in need. Nate May, 11, hopes to use his leadership position to raise funds and awareness of the Backpack Buddies program run by local charity Bridge Builders. He currently volunteers at the organisation every week and has already raised more than $2400, which will feed three children in the Backpack Buddies program for the entire year. Your local paper, whenever you want it. Bridge Builders supports 180 children in 15 schools across the Peel region, with 40 more children in the community still on the waitlist. 'I can't imagine going home on the weekend to no food in the pantry,' Nate said. 'That's the sad reality for lots of kids in the community and I want to do as much as I can to help.' Bridge Builders CEO Kelly Hinder said Nate's dedication and leadership was truly inspiring. 'His passion for helping others embodies the spirit of community and generosity we strive to uphold at Bridge Builders,' she said. 'With his help and the support of our incredible community, we can ensure that no child in our region has to face hunger alone.' Nate May and his sister Mia volunteer at Bridge Builders every Thursday with their family Credit: Supplied Nate's mother Demi said she couldn't be prouder of her son's commitment and the positive impact he was making at such a young age. Nate will be helping MBC hold a whole school cereal domino event on June 25 to raise more donations for Bridge Builders. The event encourages every student to contribute a cereal box that will form a large domino chain. The cereal will then be donated to Bridge Builders, along with a gold coin donation. 'Please, if you can spare any loose change for hungry local kids, it would make my year,' Nate said.

Nate Diaz Shares Hitlist For UFC Return

Nate Diaz is still interested in fighting for the UFC again, but they're gonna have to generate some interesting options for him if they want him to sign on the dotted line. Diaz fought out his contract back in 2022, ending a 15 year relationship with the promotion. He then went on to lose to Jake Paul and beat Jorge Masvidal in boxing bouts ... the latter of which he didn't get paid for. Advertisement When you sell out an arena and still get screwed over, it probably makes you miss the more reliable ways the UFC operates. So we're not surprised that Nate is still interested in fighting for them again (despite repeated attempts to bury him). In a recent interview with the The HJR Podcast (recorded before UFC 315 and the Thailand brawl incident), the Stockton fighter discussed his thoughts on returning to UFC and what's stopping him at the moment. 'I plan on going back to UFC,' Diaz said. 'If they'll have me, I would like to go back and whoop someone's ass there. I'm not fighting at 155, though. Right now I'm not fighting in there because there's nobody to fight, really. It's kind of slow rolling. I don't really have a name in mind right now in UFC, that's why I'm not there right now.' Advertisement 'Everybody's rushing. I would be there if there was somebody that I wanted to go fight.' The obvious opponent is Conor McGregor, but Nate noted he's not active at the moment. 'With time, for sure, whenever he's back, I'm sure we're going to fight,' he said. 'Me and him for sure have unfinished business. Got to happen.' Discussion turned to the BMF belt, which Nate took credit for and called the most entertaining thing happening in the UFC. He also expressed interest in fighting some of the BMF belt holders, be they legit or through lineal conquest. 'Those are the guys right there that I would want to fight,' Diaz said. 'Like Max Holloway. I'd like to fight that other guy [Topuria]. He's really good but he's smaller than me. I'm done with 155, I'm cool off that. It always was [a hard weight cut], since I was 18, it was hard. I'm staying at 170. I'll fight 185 too.' Advertisement We're sure Max Holloway would love to skip a weight cut and fight Nate Diaz after he fights Dustin Poirier at UFC 318 on July 18th. Could it happen? If they could pull together a McGregor or Holloway fight (or uno mas with Poirier), it would be a nice addition to a year sorely lacking in fan service fights. More from

ITV Emmerdale stars film 'traumatic' funeral scenes ahead of tragic murder twist

Emmerdale cast members have opened up on filming a 'traumatic' funeral for a much-loved character who will soon be murdered on the ITV soap, in a huge whodunnit storyline. A cast member of Emmerdale has hinted that "traumatic" scenes are on the horizon, with a heartbreaking funeral sequence having been filmed recently. An unexpected death is set to stun villagers imminently. The upcoming death is said to send shockwaves through their close-knit community. The production team have now shot a poignant funeral for the character, and it's expected to be an emotionally charged affair. ‌ It's been reported that the storyline will provide a fitting farewell to the character, yet the filming process proved quite dark. In conversation with the Mirror, actress Amy Walsh disclosed that they have wrapped up shooting the funeral for Nate Robinson, portrayed by Jurell Carter. ‌ The actress gave a hint that the upcoming episodes would tug at the heartstrings, indicating they were tough on the actors to shoot. Nate's murder revelation hits the screen next week, after a prolonged belief that he had ceased contact with his parents. The audience is already aware that John Sugden killed Nate back in September, subsequently discarding his body into a lake. Following this, John sent a deceptive text from Nate's phone to his wife Tracy, urging her not to get in touch post their recent split. Though Nate's absence raised some eyebrows, it's only now that people are genuinely seeking him out. Nate's family and friends are bound to face immense regret when his corpse is eventually found and recognised. Shortly thereafter, his father Cain Dingle and wife Tracy receive the dreadful news that he's deceased, with his remains being located in a village lake. As the villagers come to the shocking realisation that he's been deceased all along, the mystery deepens with questions of who is responsible for his death and their motives. With characters at risk of being wrongfully accused and Nate's final moments being pieced together, the community finds itself divided by the unfolding drama. ‌ Amy Walsh, who portrays Tracy, shared insights into the upcoming emotional funeral scenes, stating: "We've been filming the funeral stuff this week. " She continued, "[Jurrel] is a massive part of the company and it's a massive hole that he's left." Describing the experience of shooting the funeral, she said, "It was weirdly cathartic being there to celebrate him as Nate at the funeral, even though it was traumatic scenes to film." ‌ She added, "It was nice being there for him. He is greatly missed. He's a great guy, I feel really sad it's forever that he's gone but what a great exit. He'll be pleased. The funeral is amazing, it's an amazing nod to his time here so I think hell be pleased with that." Amy also mentioned that she has kept in contact with Jurell Carter, the actor behind Nate, who remains updated about his character's tragic storyline. She disclosed: "I'm going to see his play. I can't wait to see him, I want to support him. "We still message occasionally and check in on each other. The last time we spoke was him being on tour and me busy at work, juggling, and he said have they filmed my funeral yet? And I said no that's next week!".

Scoop: Music venue 3rd & Lindsley extends lease

The independent music venue 3rd & Lindsley has signed a lease extension that will keep it operating for the next several years. Why it matters: The club is a cornerstone of Nashville's music industry, providing a stage to local and touring artists. State of play: Just a few years ago, 3rd & Lindsley was pondering relocation as its site south of Broadway was up for redevelopment. Those plans didn't advance, opening the door for the venue to extend its lease. The big picture: 3rd & Lindsley celebrates its 35th anniversary early next year. That's especially meaningful since independent music venue operators have endured a gritty few years since the pandemic. What he's saying: "We want the community to know we're not going anywhere, we're doubling down on what it means to be an independent venue in today's Nashville," 3rd & Lindsley owner Ron Brice says. "This lease is a promise — to our incredible musician family, to the fans who've created countless memories in our room, and to the next generation coming up." What's next: To celebrate that anniversary next year, the club is planning a slate of special concerts by artists who have performed there in the past. Zoom in: 3rd & Lindsley will also be expanding its successful daytime programming with family-friendly performances. The club will also kick off Bluegrass on 3rd every Thursday starting July 3 at 12:30pm. 💭 Nate's thought bubble: One of the first concerts I saw after moving to Nashville many years ago was singer-songwriter Mindy Smith, who gave a mesmerizing performance. My friends and I watched from the second floor balcony overlooking the stage.
