Bollywood dietitian slams government order targeting Indian fast food: ‘Samosa and jalebi ne aap ka kya bigada hai?'
The Union Health Ministry has asked all departments to put up boards showing the sugar and oil content in popular snacks like samosa, burger, pizza, gulab jamun and soft drinks. The ministry also wants health messages printed on official items like letterheads and notepads. The aim is to spread daily awareness about healthy living and fighting obesity and related diseases. Meanwhile, star dietitian Rujuta Diwekar has criticised the government instruction. Diwekar's Bollywood clients include Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan. She also serves celebrities from other fields, such as Gautam Gambhir, Anil Ambani and OLA CEO Bhavish Aggarwal. 'Tobacco is an independent risk factor. It harms irrespective of environment & lifestyle. There is ample proof of that. Samosa and jalebi ne aap ka kya bigada hai (What harm have samosa and jalebi ever done to you)?' asked the health influencer, who has 1.7 million followers on Instagram. 'If we are serious about health warnings - colas, chips, cookies etc, must get them first. Regulate & tax Big food,' she wrote. 'Ultra processed foods products are the real problem. And there is ample proof of that too' Diweker added in the caption. Rujuta Diwekar often debunks diet myths on social media. In one of her Instagram Reels, she asked people to eat pakoda in the monsoon. Many social media users agreed with the dietitian. One of them wrote, 'Thank you ma'am for putting it into right words… hum tho khayenge samosa and jalebi... but hum definitely nahi khayenge pizza.. burgers.. Colas.' 'Seriously! We do not cut down on biscuits and bread ever! but samosas are the first to go,' wrote another. 'I was waiting for your comment on this. I am from Indore, Samosa Jalebi Is our staple food,' came from one user. 'It is raining.. going to make chai and pyaz pakora guilt free,' commented one user. According to WebMD, drinking colas regularly can harm your health in many ways. The high sugar, especially fructose, may cause weight gain and belly fat. It can increase the risk of diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Colas don't make you feel full, leading to overeating. They may also cause sugar addiction, tooth decay and gout. They even raise the chances of dementia in the long run. While samosa and jalebi are not healthy options either, their advantage is that they are consumed as occasional treats. As solid foods, they are more filling than colas. So, people are less likely to overeat. Colas, produced by big brands that pay big taxes, are more frequently consumed.

Bengaluru Woman's Auto Fare Comparison Goes Viral: "Rs 39 On Meter, 172 On App"
A Bengaluru woman's social media post has sparked fresh debate around auto fares and app-based ride pricing in the city. Aditi Srivastava shared a striking comparison on X, highlighting the vast difference between auto fares on the meter and app-based pricing. For a 2.6 km ride, her auto meter showed a fare of Rs 39, while the online booking app charged a whopping Rs 172.45 for the same distance. This glaring discrepancy has ignited a heated debate among users, further exacerbating the city's existing woes with traffic, surge pricing and rising auto fares. "The price on meter vs the price on Uber. If you don't have your vehicle in Bangalore, you're screwed," the tweet read. See the post here: The price on meter vs the price on uber If you don't have your own vehicle in Bangalore, you're screwed — Aditi Srivastava (@adviosa) July 6, 2025 The post went viral, resonating with Bengaluru commuters who frequently face issues with unreliable bike taxi services and unpredictable ride-hailing prices. Many users expressed frustration, calling app-based fares "absolute exploitation", while others highlighted the need for a more equitable and transparent fare system. Some users pointed out that even owning a private vehicle isn't a viable solution, citing poor fuel mileage in the city's congested traffic. T One user wrote, " apps are a scam in fact no takers for OLA and Uber auto Rapido and Namma Yatri, and there also the prices are 3 to 4 times higher." Another commented, "Uber prices are based on Supply-Demand, while Meter prices are fixed by the government. It should always be based on Supply for fairness, but(3x) Bangalore Govt. & the Auto Mafia don't let that happen fairly either with Bike Taxi Bans & removing non-Kannadiga Autos." A third said, "Last couple of days uber is showing close to how much the meter would run. The drivers are just not accepting rides. Ola and NY are confirming rides coz they are 50 or more higher." A fourth added, "Hmm. Something is off here. Never seen such surge."

OLA signs agreements with insurance companies
The Omani Lawyers Association (OLA) signed a number of agreements with insurance companies operating in the Sultanate of Oman following the amendments issued in the new Omani Lawyers Law, promulgated by Royal Decree No 41/2024. This law requires law firms to insure themselves against professional errors. The signing took place at the headquarters of the Oman Lawyers Association (OLA) on Tuesday. The agreements were made with Arabia Falcon Insurance Company SAOG, Dhofar Insurance and Oman United Insurance Company SAOG. They will cover professional services such as legal consulting, judicial representation, legal documentation, arbitration and mediation. Additionally, they will cover employee breach of trust, loss of documents, defamation, slander, copyright infringement, breach of confidentiality, and loss mitigation clauses, all of which are automatically covered. "In a groundbreaking move to enhance the professional protection of lawyers and improve the quality of legal practice, the Oman Lawyers Association has signed agreements with insurance companies in the Sultanate of Oman to protect against possible errors by law firms," said Dr Hamad bin Hamdan al Rubaie, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OLA. The purpose of these agreements is to establish cooperation between the Association and insurance companies to provide professional liability insurance policies to lawyers and law firms. This will enhance the legal and professional protection of lawyers while they practice their profession. The agreements also cover financial losses resulting from professional errors, negligence, and omissions during legal practice, as well as legal expenses related to any claim covered under the policy. Furthermore, the agreements will allow lawyers and their families to obtain comprehensive or third-party insurance for their private vehicles at preferential rates and favourable terms in accordance with the Unified Insurance Policy issued in Oman. An insurance company stated that this initiative will create a safe professional environment for law firms. By forging agreements with insurance companies, appropriate and effective insurance solutions against professional liability will be provided to lawyers and law firms in Oman according to the terms and specifications in each agreement. However, it's important to note that these policies do not cover intentional acts, war, terrorism, cyber risks, insolvency, delays, infectious diseases, contractual liability and other exclusions as specified in the policy terms.
