ONE Championship CEO Chatri pushes back on speculation, says business is ‘very close to profitability'
ONE Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong has pushed back at online criticism of his promotion – insisting the business is on track and 'very close' to profitability. The Thai entrepreneur hit out in a lengthy Facebook post this week, responding to a wave of recent backlash from some fans and reporters, accusing ONE of facing a 'crisis across multiple fronts.' 'While my team and I are certainly frustrated, we understand it comes with the territory when building a young, high-profile global brand,' Chatri wrote. 'Sadly, there are some who simply want to see ONE fail.' In a post that ranged from financial transparency to athlete grievances, Chatri acknowledged past missteps – including underestimating the timeline to profitability – but said the organisation was now in a much healthier place after years of high investment. 'Revenues have grown every year since inception and continue on a good trajectory,' he wrote. 'As a result, our monthly losses have now seen several meaningful step-function reductions. The path to profitability is now very clear.' The comments follow the recent publication of critical articles, which claimed ONE was facing internal layoffs, athlete unrest, and investor anxiety – triggering debate across social media. The pieces also raised doubts about the promotion's US broadcast deal with Amazon Prime Video. But Chatri flatly denied suggestions that the five-year Amazon deal – signed in 2022 – was nearing its end. 'Some 'journalists' have even gone so far as to make the false claim that our Amazon Prime Video partnership in the US ends this year,' he wrote. 'The truth is that it runs through mid-2027.' Chatri also alleged that ONE had become the target of what he described as increasingly coordinated online smear campaigns, referencing deepfake videos and troll accounts. 'These attacks have happened before, and they will likely happen again,' he said. 'In many ways, these tactics resemble a dirty political smear campaign – except I am not running for any political office, and no one else at ONE is either.' While defending the company's position, Chatri admitted the business had endured setbacks and athlete frustrations. But he said criticism from some fighters stemmed from clashing perspectives over matchmaking and entitlement. 'No one is necessarily right or wrong in these situations,' he said. 'Some athletes feel they deserve a title shot. Others might be struggling with a string of losses and looking for someone to blame. Some might believe they deserve more money.' Chatri also touched on staff restructuring, saying downsizing in some countries had been necessary to support growth in others. The Facebook post ended on an emotional note, calling on fans to 'rally' behind the athletes and embrace the values ONE says it represents. 'If you love our athletes and you love ONE, I invite you to double down on the good fight for a better world together,' Chatri said. 'At the end of the day, I truly believe that good always triumphs over evil and that love always defeats hate.'

Charity urges Irish Ukraine war veterans to avail of support
An Irish veterans charity is calling on former Defence Forces members who fought in Ukraine to come forward for support. Óglaigh Náisiúnta na hÉireann (ONE) has said that they are helping seven former Irish soldiers who fought in Ukraine. The charity believes there are more veterans out there who may need support. "What we have found is pride is a huge inhibitor of individuals looking for help. In an awful lot of cases, through second to third hand, we're made aware of an individual who is suffering," said Cormac Kirwan, CEO of ONE. He said he would encourage any individual, who is aware of a veteran of the Defence Forces who is struggling, to reach out. "We've six professional veteran support officers that are full-time counsellors and psychotherapists," he said. One Irish man who fought in Ukraine said he has noticed a huge difference in his mental health since engaging with ONE. Peter, not his real name, was a special forces operative with the Ukrainian Army from February 2022 to January 2023. "I went into the situation knowing the full risks involved. I didn't go over there naively," Peter told RTÉ News. He added: "I knew when I left Ireland, I knew there was a very good chance I was not going to come back alive. I made sure I was aware of that decision before I left Ireland." While escaping major physical injuries, Peter struggled internally when he got home two years ago. "[I] had to come home at some stage… preferably not in a box. One of the weirdest things when I came home was like 'I'm safe. I'm safe. I know I'm not going to be targeted today'," he said. Even though his GP said they believed he was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, he refused help. "So, what did I do? I was still in combat mode. I avoided everyone. Didn't go out. Didn't socialise," he said. A friend put him in contact with ONE. He eventually decided to reach out to them for help which he said has been transformative for him. "One of the biggest disconnects you have when you come back is that everyone is a civilian. "They haven't been to war. They haven't seen what you've seen. They haven't done what you've done. Once you start talking to ex-military, you are able to connect and resonate with each other," he said. "When you come back, you try and find purpose in life. You come back to Ireland, you try and work a job, you're socialising at the weekends and doing all the simple things that people take for granted," he added. "But you're not going in, doing missions, going into combat or liberating towns, saving comrades, retrieving bodies, as grim as it might be. "At least you are doing something pretty important and making a significant difference. When you come home you realise that's lacking," the former Defence Forces member said. "It was the greatest sense of purpose I had while I was over there," Peter said. ONE support officer Audra Larkin said it is common for someone to find re-integration difficult when re-entering communities and families after war. "We see things like disrupted sleep patterns, PTSD, isolation, disconnection from friends, families, communities," she said. Ms Larkin said that ONE can offer veterans a shared language and that can help them adapt. "The ONE is a veterans organisation and they are veterans of the Defence Forces as well as the Ukrainian army, so the language is very similar. "We can engage them in that language that they find difficult to be understood in the civilian world," Ms Larkin said. "So just for them to reach out, they will be treated without any judgement in a confidential manner and it's a professional service," she added.

ONE Championship goes all-in on Bangkok
When it comes to sports that dominate weekend buzz, ONE Championship is always in the spotlight. Since launching in Singapore in 2011, this combat sports powerhouse has exploded onto the global stage, becoming one of the biggest names in martial arts. Though many of its adrenaline-pumping bouts happen in Thailand, the heart of its global operations has stayed in Singapore – until now. Big news: ONE is packing up and heading to Bangkok. That's right, the capital is about to become the new international production hub of one of the world's fiercest fight scenes. In a statement posted on their Facebook page on June 30, the company confirmed the relocation of its production hub from the Lion City to the Big Mango. The decision, it said, was driven by rising production demands, improved logistical efficiency and the growing scale of its flagship weekly series, ONE Friday Fights. Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong explained, 'Over the past two and a half years, Thailand has become central to our global content production. As we continue to scale, this move will allow us to centralise operations and improve coordination while increasing our event and content production capabilities.' The shift comes as the ONE Lumpinee events continue to fuel Asia's fight scene, now contributing over B16 billion annually to the Thai economy. The weekly bouts are now broadcast to 195 countries during primetime hours across Asia and the momentum isn't slowing. A brand-new, traditional five-round Muay Thai series is also in the works and slated to debut later this year. While this move marks a major shift, Singapore will continue to serve as a corporate headquarters, handling investor relations, strategic planning and senior leadership operations. To date, the martial arts organisation has staged over 50 events annually at Lumpinee Stadium. It's clear that the kingdom is no longer just the setting for the action – it's now driving it, both in and out of the ring. With ONE's bold leap and Thailand's growing ambition including the buzz around potentially bringing Formula 1 to the country, we are racing toward becoming a global sports tourism hotspot. So, what's next on the horizon? Which major sporting event do you think we will host next?
