LU students demand better facilities, extended library hours
Lucknow:
Lucknow University
students staged a protest on Monday demanding an increase in the operating hours of the Tagore and Cyber Libraries, lifting restrictions on carrying personal books inside libraries and poor Wi-Fi connectivity.
Student leader Shubham Kharwar said: "Libraries are the heart of any academic institution. Restricting access after 6pm limits students who rely on evening hours for study. We are not asking for luxuries, just the basic infrastructure to support our academic growth. It's about creating an academic environment that values students' time and effort."
"A major point of contention was the policy preventing students from bringing their own reference books into the library. Many of us prepare for competitive exams and rely on specific guides that aren't available in the university collection. It's unfair and discouraging," said PG student Virat Shekhar.
Undergraduate student Arvind Mishra said: "For over a month, I haven't been able to log in to MyLoft, which is crucial for accessing journals. Even OPAC, the online catalog, has frequent issues due to the slow Wi-Fi."
Librarian Keya Pandey said: "We are considering the extension of
library hours
. However, allowing students to bring their own books is not followed anywhere and we cannot permit it. We are also working on better Wi-Fi connectivity."
