Popular Scottish sunflower trail returns in days as tickets go on sale for magical summer experience

The sunflower trail runs from August 6 to 24 and offers paths through 14 acres of flowers A popular sunflower trail is set to return to one of Scotland's most stunning areas in the coming days. Thousands of bright yellow sunflowers are set to bloom once again this August at Balgone Estate near North Berwick. ‌ The estate offers a colourful countryside escape perfect for families, couples, and day-trippers. Running from August 6 to 24, the trail stretches across 14 acres of farmland and features a vibrant sea of towering sunflowers. ‌ Visitors will enter the trail through a whimsical freestanding door before exploring a network of flower-shaped paths that weave through the blooms, offering countless photo opportunities along the way, Glasgow Live reports. ‌ The trail has become one of Scotland's favourite summer attractions, allowing guests to walk among thousands of the iconic blooms that were a favourite subject of artist Vincent van Gogh. After a walk through the sunflower maze, visitors are invited to pick their own flowers to take home. Ten per cent of all sunflower sales are donated to Brain Power, a fundraising initiative that supports Brain Tumour Research, giving guests a chance to support a meaningful cause while enjoying the outdoors. ‌ New for this year, Balgone Estate is introducing both all-ages and adult-only evening sessions. Adults can enjoy sunset strolls through the flowers with BBQ food and Pimm's served as the golden hour settles over the estate. These events are designed to offer a relaxed and social summer evening in a stunning rural setting. ‌ Foodies will be pleased to find an array of street food vendors on site, with offerings from Loop & Scoop, Slumdog Streetfood, and Wanderers Kneaded. There's also a farm shop stocked with fresh local produce, and plenty to keep younger visitors entertained with play areas and activities such as face painting. ‌ The estate is also home to what's believed to be one of Scotland's largest pumpkin patches, making it a year-round destination for seasonal activities. Balgone Estate recommends booking slots for the Sunflower Trail in advance via its website, as spaces tend to fill up quickly during the peak bloom season. While many choose to make a day trip of it, visitors looking to extend their stay in East Lothian have several nearby accommodation options. ‌ Cosy holiday cottages such as the Old Smiddy in Haddington offer a peaceful retreat, while those seeking something grander can stay in a luxury apartment within the historic Oxenfoord Castle, just 30 minutes away. Frustrating delays in transfer of Newport community centre

City council officials said they would 'learn from' the matter and had sought specialist training to help it get to grips with the relatively new process. Ward councillor Matthew Pimm told a scrutiny committee plans for the future of Eveswell Community Centre faced 'lots of hold-ups'. The site is subject of an ongoing Community Asset Transfer (CAT) – a legal process through which local authorities can hand over surplus or unwanted buildings and other assets to interested community groups or organisations. In this case, a proposed deal would pass Eveswell Community Centre to a charity, Toc H, which already runs activities and workshops there. A 25-year lease has previously been suggested for the CAT arrangements. Speaking at a Newport City Council scrutiny meeting, on Monday July 21, Cllr Pimm said the process had involved 'delays' and 'quite a bit of confusion' for those involved. He urged officers to 'speed it up' and suggested the CAT process 'needs to be as straightforward as possible'. Delays had 'made life quite difficult in terms of planning ahead [for] when we take over the asset'. Tracy McKim – the council's head of people, policy and transformation – said the local authority had 'accepted all along' the Eveswell Community Centre CAT is 'something we need to learn from'. The council has worked with Gwent third-sector umbrella organisation GAVO and an 'external provider' to improve its use of CATs, the committee heard. Ms McKim added she believed the transfer of Eveswell Community Centre would be 'a real positive outcome when we get it over the line'. Rhian Howells, the cabinet member for assets and infrastructure, said the early work on CATs would help the council with 'accruing knowledge', and 'going forward we will be able to do it better'. Speaking later in the meeting, Cllr Pimm said the community group involved in the Eveswell CAT process had 'nearly lost out on our funding… because of the delays'. 'A lot needs to be learned', he said, adding it was 'soul destroying… waiting for something to happen'.

Wimbledon influencer with over 165k followers is actually an AI creation

She has 165,000 followers on Instagram and recently posted images showing her enjoying the tennis at Wimbledon. But the 'model' whose social media persona became an internet sensation at the championships was actually created by AI. The online comments by Zelu, who embodied the quintessential Wimbledon look of summery dresses and golden tan, reflect the language used by actual Instagram influencers. In one, she asks her followers: 'Which Wimbledon match was your fave?' Despite not actually being at the tournament, Zelu also remarked: 'Still not over the event… but the party's a whole other game.' AI-generated influencer Mia Zelu. Wimbledon-inspired fashion to serve this season: Top 5 tips to look the part easily

Wimbledon is a lifestyle moment. Where else do strawberries cost as much as tickets and the audience looks like they've stepped out of a fashion magazine editorial? This is where fashion meets finesse. So, if you're heading to the stands, watching from your patio, or just looking to serve up some preppy summer elegance, here's your Wimbledon-inspired wardrobe playbook. Prepare to ace it. Wimbledon-inspired fashion to serve this season: Top 5 tips to look the part!(AI Generated) 1. When in doubt, wear white White is Wimbledon's unofficial official colour. It's the purest form of power dressing on grass. While the strict code applies to players, it's also a spectator favourite. A white linen co-ord, flowy cotton dress, or wide-leg trousers with a structured blouse brings in the summer sophistication. Play with fabrics—eyelets, lace, and broderie anglaise—for texture. White never looks basic when worn with confidence. 2. Accessorise like you've got front row seats The right accessories can take your look from 'garden variety' to 'garden party chic.' Start with a wide-brimmed hat—stylish and functional under that British sun. Add a pair of vintage-style sunglasses, a straw tote, and perhaps a silk scarf tied around your bag or ponytail. The vibe is elegant, relaxed, and always polished. Less is more, but a statement piece? Always welcome. 3. Walk the court in style (and comfort) Leave your stilettos for another time. Wimbledon fashion is about elegance that walks. White sneakers with clean lines, strappy block heels, espadrilles, or classic loafers are perfect. You'll thank yourself if you're standing in a queue for Pimm's or strolling across the lawn. Fashion points are only awarded if your feet aren't silently screaming. 4. Embrace subtle tenniscore vibes Want to nod to the sport without looking like you wandered off the court? Enter Tenniscore—sporty fashion's classier cousin. Think pleated midi skirts, knitted vests over crisp shirts, polos tucked into trousers, and breezy sweater vests layered over cotton dresses. Keep the palette soft—white, beige, pastels—with one pop of colour, maybe a forest green or navy. 5. Think 'English Garden Party,' not 'Fashion Week' Wimbledon style doesn't scream for attention—it softly hums. Skip flashy neon, logos, or anything too tight. Instead, opt for soft florals, stripes, gingham, or solid earthy tones. Add a lightweight trench or blazer for layering. You're aiming for that sweet spot between effortlessness and elegance, between sporty and summer tea party. Wimbledon is where fashion meets tradition. It's not about being loud—it's about being remembered for quiet, confident style. Whether you're attending the tournament or just dressing the part, aim for crisp, classic, and cool. Let your outfit say: "I came to watch tennis, but I could've easily walked the runway." Game, set, match—your style has won.
