'Best pub in London' that was once owned by Madonna and Guy Ritchie

The Punch Bowl in Mayfair has been named the best destination pub in London London, with its impressive collection of over 3,500 pubs, offers a diverse range of watering holes from traditional taverns to themed hotspots scattered across the city. These establishments vary from well-known chains to hidden treasures and even some celebrity-owned venues. Some of these pubs boast a rich history dating back centuries, with a few of the oldest believed to have first opened their doors in the 1500s. ‌ Recently, one pub has been crowned the cream of the crop. The Punch Bowl, nestled in Mayfair, clinched the title of 'best destination pub' in the Muddy Stilettos 2025 London Awards. ‌ This historic pub, believed to have been established around 1750, gained fame in the 2000s when it featured in the documentary I'm Going to Tell You a Secret, which chronicled Madonna's life in 2004 and captured her and then-husband Guy Ritchie enjoying an evening at the pub. Fast forward to March 2008, and the couple, along with nightclub mogul Piers Adam, bought the pub for a reported £2.5 million. Following their divorce in November 2008, Madonna's shares in the pub were transferred to Ritchie/ In 2013, Ritchie sold the pub to Alexander Langlands Pearse, owner of Cirrus Inns, which operates numerous pubs nationwide, reports the Express. During its golden era under A-list ownership, the pub was a favourite haunt for the wealthy and famous. Notable patrons included Prince William and Prince Harry, David Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio, Justin Timberlake, and Jude Law. Visitors to the pub, since the change in ownership, have left rave reviews on TripAdvisor, with one writing: "Very cozy, old school pub. The service team and bar team dressed and fit the character of the property. ‌ "The fire was much needed after the windy walk and the Mulled wine was great. Food looked good but we only went for drinks during our afternoon stroll. A must see for out of town visitors." Another added: "A superb dining experience! Great service and excellent meal. The staff were all friendly and efficient - we were made to feel very welcome and suggestions were spot on and thoroughly enjoyed! Will definitely be back soon!!" While a third penned: "So impressed by the amazing team at The Punchbowl. The food was fantastic and I have never seen a Head Chef walk casually around ensuring everyone is enjoying their meal. "It was also a great indication how well run the kitchen is to enable her to do this. Thank you Mira! The service, the ambience, the bar - all top tier! We had a fab night and felt well and truly spoilt! Thank you Punchbowl team!" A fourth visitor said: "Amazing date venue with a really good ambiance and amazing staff! We were served by Jess and Anabelle who were lovely! And what a Great wine list!"

The best pub in London in 2025, according to lifestyle guide Muddy Stilettos

It is officially beer garden season! The weather is now clement enough for you to sit outside the best of London's pubs and sip a shandy in the sun. It's also time for a lucky boozer to be named the best in London. Congrats to the Punch Bowl in Mayfair, which lifestyle guide Muddy Stilettos has named the city's 'best destination pub' in the 2025 Muddy Stilettos Awards. Now in its 12th year, each year the awards recognise a host of shops, pubs, hotels and venues according to public votes. The Punch Bowl is a Georgian pub on a central London backstreet (Farm Street, to be exact). It used to belong to Guy Ritchie and Madonna, who bought it from Greg Foreman, son of gangster and Kray twins associate Freddie Foreman, in 2008. Ritchie sold the pub in 2013 and it was refurbished in 20914. It's now run by Butcombe Brewery and, impressively, is open from 8am for breakfast, serving a £50 sharing brekkie grill platter. The Grade II-listed boozer dates back to 1750. Speaking about the pub's win, The Punch Bowl's general manager Kyra Roberts said: 'We're absolutely delighted to have won Best Destination Pub in London! The team works tirelessly to give our guests the very best experience – from our exceptional food and drink to the live music, supper clubs and quiz nights we organise each month. 'We love the community we serve and to know our reputation for quality is spreading, leading to us winning an award as prestigious as this, is incredible!' The Punch Bowl beat out other pub finalists The Albion in Islington, The Holly Bush in Hampstead, The Three Crowns in Stoke Newington and The Wolfpack Inn in Fulham.

Church pastor and members march into town centre with cross for Good Friday

Church members have marched with a cross this morning as part of an event marking Good Friday. Pastor Stan Smith, 66, of Grace Church Atherton, walked through the town from 10.45am to 11.45am while carrying the cross on his back. Around 30 other members of the Alma Street church joined him for the occasion with some taking turns carrying the cross, which weights around 30kg. The route took Pastor Smith from his church down to Market Street in Atherton, and then past the Punch Bowl pub, before returning to the town centre. In the town centre the group sang a hymn and put a sketch board with different shapes representing the Christian message. The walk in Atherton (Picture: Phil Taylor) The walk in Atherton (Picture: Phil Taylor) Pastor Smith said: "It was great, we sang along the way and had a good time. "It was the first time me and a few of the others carried a cross like this in around 45 years." Pastor Stan Smith with the sketch board (Image: Phil Taylor) The walk in Atherton (Picture: Phil Taylor) Pastor Smith added that it was a "joyful" event which paid tribute to the importance of Easter. Grace Church recently merged with the long-established Atherton Evangelical Church, which has produced a growing congregation. This Easter marks the one year anniversary of the merger.
