U.S. Army Sgt. charged with 30 felonies for alleged online sexual relationship with 15-year-old

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. BEAVER COUNTY, Utah () — A U.S. Army Sergeant has been charged with dozens of felonies after investigators discovered his alleged relationship with a 15-year-old from Utah. Tomas Richard Shipman, 27, has been charged with 30 felonies. He is facing 20 charges of sexual exploitation of a minor, 10 charges of dealing in materials harmful to a minor, and one charge of enticing a minor. Sex offender arrested for attempting to meet child in Lehi, documents say According to the arresting statement prepared by the Beaver County Sheriff's Office, Shipman is employed as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and stationed in Washington state. Officers believe he is stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and is living there at this time. Officers with the Beaver County Sheriff's Office began investigating Shipman after a 15-year-old girl confessed to her parents that she was involved in an online relationship with a 27-year-old man. Her parents turned over the teen's electronic devices to the sheriff's office to perform an investigation. One of the devices, an iPod, was given to the 15-year-old by a friend. Officers spoke with the friend, and he stated that he gave her the device to help her contact her 'boyfriend.' The friend only knew that boyfriend by the name 'Quade,' and believed that he lived in Beaver County. The friend was able to provide the sheriff's office with Shipman's cellphone number. The 15-year-old's parents found a different number in her phone records that they believed belonged to Shipman. Suspect in Riverdale homicide charged with murder, had criminal history After obtaining search warrants, investigators discovered an app called 'TextMe' on a Kindle Fire device that belonged to the 15-year-old. They discovered conversations between her and a phone number that matched the one her friend said belonged to 'Quade.' The 15-year-old told an officer that she and Shipman had been in communication since July 7, 2024. According to documents, she said that he was aware she was 15, and that they had exchanged inappropriate photos. Throughout the conversations on 'TextMe' and Snapchat, police discovered 'expressions of love and endearment' between the two. Shipman sent messages that were extremely graphic and sexual in nature to the 15-year-old girl. Sheriff's officials said that some of the most alarming discoveries were messages where Shipman was finding routes from his home in Washington to where the 15-year-old lived in Utah. Officers said he had begun exhibiting stalking-like behavior in these conversations. A proposed arrest warrant has been filed for Shipman, who is believed to be near Tacoma, Washington, at this time. Quade: The Foel Tower review – twisted Bristol band tap into the tensions between industry and nature

Listening to The Foel Tower feels like tuning a weathered old radio – you'll be rewarded for applying patience and concentration. On this second album, experimental Bristol four-piece Quade make a virtue of the slow build; Barney Matthews' bassy, cryptic vocals are buried beneath shivering cymbals, gut-rumbling bass and blasts of static, with most of the lyricism left to multi-instrumentalist Tom Connolly's twisting, agonised, beatific violin. Like their label mates Moin who describe themselves as 'post-whatever', Quade discard the classic band format for a more organic, intuitive approach. Canada Geese starts with a simple, strummed acoustic guitar and close-quarters detail: distant birdsong, the soft rattle of what could be a washing machine. This intimacy dissolves into grand, threatening post-rock when Matt Griffith's electronics and Leo Fini's echoing, distant drums build muscle. 'Kill them all,' Matthews mumbles, barely discernible, as Connolly's strings writhe. Drawing from folk, jazz, ambient and doom, and inspired by tensions between industry and nature, the album was made in Wales' Elan Valley (mid-album instrumental highlight Nannerth Ganol judders like a low-flying helicopter) and titled after a building on the Garreg Ddu reservoir, which sends its water on a long journey to Birmingham. There are literary references (Le Guin, Yeats, Thomas) buried in the murk, and mystifying media samples (possibly from meditation app Headspace, and an unnamed actor) to pick apart – but The Foel Tower is no concept album. Its six tracks are searching and emotional, led by heart rather than head. Satisfyingly indecipherable, Quade make music that speaks first to your body, then to your imagination.

Pauly Shore to headline opening of massive Woodlawn Comedy theater

San Antonio is getting a major boost to its comedy scene with the launch of Woodlawn Comedy, a Deco District venue dedicated to stand-up. Why it matters: The comedy theater aims to draw A-list talent and elevate the city's profile as a stop on national comedy tours. The latest: Comedian Pauly Shore will christen the theater's stage on Saturday. And the theater has already booked names like Michael Winslow, Steven Michael Quezada and Caroline Rhea. Flashback: The Fredericksburg Road building opened in 1945 as a cinema. It hosted the premiere of John Wayne's "The Alamo" in 1960. The building was most recently home to Woodlawn Theatre Company, which relocated to Wonderland of the Americas in 2023. Behind the scenes: Co-owners Shane Quade and Keith LaRosa purchased the building in August and spent just over $1 million converting the space into a comedy venue equipped for live performance and filmed specials. The main theater's capacity has grown from 450 to 985 seats. They've also added green rooms. A new speakeasy-style bar, the 1920 Lounge, will host late-night showcases for rising comics in a cozy, after-hours setting. The big picture: Quade says what sets the venue apart is its singular focus on comedy, unlike other theaters that split their calendars with concerts or plays. "Our goal for the building is to always be filled with A-list comedians — people where everybody knows their name," Quade tells Axios. They're collaborating with a national network of comedy club owners to route major acts through San Antonio. Between the lines: Local comedian Danny Ingle will perform at Woodlawn Comedy on April 18 with Roman Garcia and Cleto Rodriguez for the "Tres Leches" show. He tells Axios he's performed in the building before and says the changes are "night and day." Ingle points to the addition of green rooms as well as a much-improved sound system and lighting setup. "Comedy is booming," he says. "Our city is growing by leaps and bounds. There are tons of comedians now, and the Austin comedy scene is spilling over to San Antonio." By the numbers: With nearly 1,000 seats, Woodlawn Comedy ranks among the largest stand-up venues in the country, Quade says. It's more than double the capacity of iconic clubs like The Comedy Store in Los Angeles (450 seats), The Second City in Chicago (292), and The Punch Line in San Francisco (240). It's also significantly larger than San Antonio's Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club, which seats about 350. What they're saying: Still, Quade emphasizes that the experience remains intimate. "There isn't a bad seat in the house. No matter what ticket you buy, you always get a premium view of the artist." If you go: Pauly Shore is headlining two opening night shows at 7pm and 10pm.
