Russian Military Hoist American Flag On U.S. Military Carrier In Ukraine Just Before DC Meet

Russia's RT released exclusive footage showing a U.S.-made M113 armored personnel carrier (APC), captured from Ukrainian forces, now operating under both Russian and American flags. The vehicle was reportedly seized near Malaya Tokmachka in the Zaporizhzhia region, a key frontline area. The dual-flag display — the Stars and Stripes flying alongside Russia's tricolor — is being framed as a symbolic gesture in Moscow's ongoing psychological warfare against Kyiv and its Western backers. The Pentagon has yet to comment on the footage, which directly challenges U.S. support for President Volodymyr Zelensky. Read More

Putin team trolls its way to Ukraine summit with Trump as it serves ‘Chicken Kyiv' for in-flight meal

Russian President Vladimir Putin's team trolled Ukraine on the eve of the summit with President Donald Trump by serving 'chicken Kyiv' to journalists on the flight to Alaska. U.S. and Russian delegations began arriving in Anchorage Friday, as Trump posted a blunt two-word warning on Truth Social: 'HIGH STAKES!!!' On the state-chartered flight to the talks, Russian media were served 'chicken Kyiv cutlets' according to the editor-in-chief of Russia Today, Margarita Simonyan. 'Perhaps this is a good sign for the upcoming negotiations,' quipped RT reporter Egor Piskunov. Other Russian propagandists jumped on the menu choice. 'This is apparently a hint that the Russian army is making chicken Kyiv cutlets out of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Putin and Trump should make a chicken Kyiv out of Zelensky,' pro-Putin commentator Sergei Markov said. He added that 'both journalists in Russia and Putin and Lavrov have a good sense of humor.' In another instance where Russia appeared to mock Ukraine ahead of the talks, Putin's foreign minister Sergei Lavrov arrived donning a USSR sweatshirt as he touched down in Anchorage. 'With chicken Kyiv and Lavrov's choice of attire, I think we're seeing some early confirmation that the Russians know what kind of signals they want to send,' Doug Klain, policy analyst for the U.S. non-profit Razom, which delivers humanitarian aid to Ukraine, told The Independent. Others on social media accused Russia of playing 'mind games' with the tactics. 'Seeing all the symbolism Russians enjoy presenting ahead of Alaska summit like USSR sweatshirts and serving chicken Kyiv - it sends only one message,' said one user of a pro-Ukraine account on X. 'They've come to Alaska to mock USA, Europe & Ukraine and to have fun at everyone's cost.' 'Russian state level trolling is a whole different ballgame,' wrote another. Lavrov's sweatshirt read 'CCCP',' an abbreviation of the Russian-language cognate of USSR. It appeared to be a tongue in cheek reference to how critics of Putin have alleged the Russian leader wants to rebuild Soviet Russia. Statues of former General Secretary of the USSR Joseph Stalin have reappeared in Russia, with a monument to the dictator being unveiled in Moscow's subway station earlier this year. 'The Russians hyped up this meeting by spotlighting their prior ownership of Alaska and Lavrov arrived wearing a USSR shirt—the previous chapter of the Russian imperial project Putin is continuing today,' Klain said. 'While the Russians loved looking back on their past holdings like Alaska, it's a timely reminder that the world changes.' The meeting between Trump and Putin will mark the first time the pair have met in person since 2018. Trump vowed that the Russian president is 'not going to mess around' with him as he looks to secure a ceasefire deal. Solve the daily Crossword

Man threatens to jump from water tank in Gonda over land dispute

Gonda (UP), Aug 18 (PTI) A man threatened to jump from a water tank near the Divisional Commissioner's office over alleged encroachment on his land and was persuaded to come down after an hour-long effort, officials said. Police said the incident occurred around 12:30 PM, coinciding with the weekly 'Samadhan Diwas" (Grievance redressal Day). When Ram Kishun (35), a resident of Khargupur Chand, could not meet senior officials, he climbed atop the water tank. A large crowd gathered as police, the additional magistrate and other officials rushed to the spot. The man repeatedly said that the officials should 'deliver justice or I will jump". Kotwali Nagar Station House Officer Vivek Trivedi said the protest ended after an hour as officials assured action, persuading him to come down safely. According to Kishun, his relatives — Jaishankar, Chandan and Nanhku — have allegedly encroached on his property, erected pillars on the land and blocked access to his house. He claimed to have submitted four to five written complaints to the Colonelganj sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) in the past month, but no action has been taken. 'The man has given a written complaint. The matter is being investigated, and action will be taken after verification," Trivedi said. Donald Trump-Zelenskyy meet: Ukraine fears ‘repetition of a contentious' encounter in Oval Office

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet US President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday, with European leaders also joining the talks. As per the Washington Post, the meeting comes amid warnings that it could mirror the 'disastrous' Oval Office clash earlier this year that saw relations between Kyiv and Washington plunge. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now During his last visit to the White House in February, Zelenskyy's discussions with Trump and Vice President JD Vance ended abruptly after a bitter row. Trump accused him of showing disrespect and of 'gambling with World War III.' The joint press conference was cancelled, Zelenskyy was ushered out, and US military aid was briefly frozen. US media described the encounter as 'disastrous' and a major diplomatic blow for Ukraine. As per the Washington Post, 'Foremost in Ukrainians' minds is avoiding a repetition of a contentious meeting in the Oval Office'. Nikolay Beleskov, a research fellow at the Ukrainian National Institute for Strategic Studies, was quoted as saying by the Washington Post that there was 'such risk indeed' of another tense exchange. He said Zelenskyy must 'strike a balance between being non-provocative' while still advancing his demands in Washington. The stakes are particularly high as Trump has just held his first in-person talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin since the Ukraine war escalated in 2022. The Anchorage summit on Friday was labelled 'warm' by Trump and 'frank' and 'substantive' by Putin, according to RT. Following the meeting, Trump suggested that Washington and Moscow were 'pretty close to the end' of the conflict and is reportedly considering a plan that would require Kyiv to surrender remaining parts of Donbass in return for a Russian halt in fighting elsewhere, as per RT. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Zelenskyy, however, has repeatedly ruled out making territorial concessions. Moscow continues to demand neutrality, demilitarisation and 'denazification' of Ukraine, along with recognition of the territories it annexed, Crimea, Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye. Putin had also said the Alaska talks brought the US and Russia 'closer' to ending hostilities. The February clash between Trump and Zelenskyy also saw Vance publicly accuse the Ukrainian leader of being 'disrespectful' and ungrateful for billions in American aid. The meeting ended without the signing of a minerals agreement that had been central to Zelenskyy's trip, and Washington temporarily cut off military and intelligence assistance afterwards. Since then, both sides have attempted to repair relations. Trump and Zelenskyy held follow-up meetings in the Vatican in April and at the Nato summit in June, where a minerals deal was eventually signed. Now, with Trump signalling he may provide security guarantees to Ukraine, European leaders, among them UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Nato Secretary-General Mark Rutte and EU chief Ursula von der Leyen, will attend Monday's discussions to shape the framework for peace talks. As per CNN, JD Vance, a key figure in February's confrontation, will also be present during the Oval Office meeting.
